When i was in my teens my father used to take the family often on sunday afternoons for a drive up & down seven lakes drive. I didn't appreciate it much at the time, but now, wow I have such good fuzzy warm memories of it!

Seven Lakes Drive is beautiful. I've been to Lake Sebago quite a few times. I wrote the entire route from New York 17 to Bear Mountain State Park Bridge

Its very confusing trying to figure out where you can park overnight in the winter, anywhere in Harriman state park. There is a lot of conflicting info online.
It's also unclear if you're supposed to check in with the police and if you need a park pass. They don't seems to want anyone to know the clear difference between state park rules and rules at private parking area's. There are many independent websites and no website informing you on all the parks rules. They make a blanket statement that winter camping is allowed yet some roads are closed, but they are very vague on which ones, and how to get around them. I've driven around in circles and had to reset my gps 3 times due to road closures. They seem to think noone wants to hike and campout overnight in the winter which is very untrue or they think people just get dropped off.
I've driven around the park in the winter but have yet to find an overnight lot near a trail, except Bear mountain Inn, but I've already been there 3 times. Its not the best or trails. With a lot of research I've learned that camping is allowed on the AT and its free except in only 2 state park area's (not in NY). The problem is with parking. The best option I've found if coming from NYC or Westchester is to take a bus or train to Peekskill and hike 2 hours to the AT.
I guess its a great way to discourage winter camping.
I wish someone would make a winter map showing the actual parking lots and parks that are closed , distinguishing between one's that are not charging a fee and those that are inaccessible and off limits, and finally showing which one's are day use and which allow overnight parking. All signs seems to only apply to seasonal camping. The "Harriman hikers parking area" map on the MyHarriman website is inadequate for winter time.

good video but he spent the first 4 minutes ridig to Harriman State Park. Better if he would have started the video in Sloatsburg.

Exactly what people escaping into Harriman want to hear, the revving of a motorcycle engine reverberating through the woods.
