I enjoyed shooting this much more than an MP5 that my dealer had. Very smooth to shoot 9mm thru an M16...no doubt about! I recall seeing these for sale back in the latter 90's though....the only thing that thing should have had updated was to put a 3 lug on it for a suppressor like HK's utilize.

    I lucked out in 2000 when a pair of original Colt DOE uppers showed up at Knob Creek, nearly missed 'em 'cause 2 GE Minis blocked my view until I got close enough to spot them! Original DOEs have a .315" take down pin at front and .250" at rear. An adapter bushing is needed to mate with a AR lower. However, if you have one and a AR lower, you have "constructive possession" of a SBR. So get your ATF tax stamp. I shoot mine with reduced loads, bore is still mirror smooth! Maybe I'll look at getting this Liemohn version, looks good!

    • @edenironworks2
      @edenironworks2 Před 2 měsíci +4

      IANAL, But I worked at a gun shop for a couple years and NFA law is kind of a special interest of mine. If the lower doesn't have a stock on the buffer tube, or it has a brace, the lower would be a pistol lower. When stripped lowers are sold, they are noted on the 4473 as "other". If it is an assembled lower with a stock, it is transferred as a rifle, if without, as a pistol. Provided you have a receiver built as a pistol (that was not originally transferred as a rifle) in your collection, it cannot be "constructive possession", as there is a legal configuration of the parts. If you ONLY have a rifle receiver, then yes, constructive possession would apply. Note that a receiver transferred as a pistol can be converted to a (nonSBR) rifle and back, but a receiver transferred as rifle cannot be made into a pistol, only an SBR (it is considered an SBR with or without a stock)

    • @scottcallahan3470
      @scottcallahan3470 Před 2 měsíci +2

      I mean no offense, but having the larger front pin for an actual DOE upper is incorrect. It is my understanding that all DOE guns were submachineguns and a variant of the M16. All M16 variants used a standard 0.250" retained with a detent, front push pin. All Colt RRs with a 0.320" in 9mm were conversions done by individuals or Class II manufacturers other than Colt.
      Not to say that the large front pin 9mm upper(s) that you own are not made with Colt parts. The uppers mentioned above would not have shipped from Colt in that configuration. Colt has been known to do some odd things. But unless you have some kind of paperwork from Colt listing the large front pin upper, I would think that someone modified parts with original parts to put the large front pin 9mm DOE style uppers together.
      To me, the teltail sign is the muzzle of the DOE barrel. If you look closely at the video, you will notice that the chrome lining flairs slightly at the muzzle. A cut Colt 9mm barrel will not have that flair of the chrome lining at the muzzle. I appreciate that Tom didn't make his parts exact copies of original DOE parts. The hand guards are great copies but are dark gray instead of black.
      Back in the day when Garrison Manufacturing was making clone DOE uppers, I sent them a Colt 16" 9mm upper and a set of M231 hand guards. They cut the barrel and installed their reproduction hand guard cap and front sight assembly. The barrel is the biggest tell. I don't care. At the time, Colt was the only sorce for chrome lined 9mm barrel. It is not, nor will it be a DOE upper. But it is fun to shoot and I am not beating on an original Colt. YMMV.
      Scott

      It depends. I can't sell you spare parts. However, if you already have an AR15 and are registering it as an SBR, you could potentially bring your newly made SBR to me ( along with the F1) and I would then be allowed to do a one for one swap for your upper. It's sticky, but that is about the only way that can happen now days.

      I appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately, between career and family, I am not left with time to script, rehearse, edit, etc.
      My reality leaves me the choice of dragging the process out in detail and only doing a handful of videos a year, or I can wing it to the best of my ability which, understandably can cost me viewers. My goal has never been to grow/accumulate viewers. My only goal has been to make information and content available to fellow Colt fans.
      With all of that said, I certainly do want to improve as I am able. But, first and foremost, I want to make information available. Undoubtedly, as I learn more, 'improve' and get more time available, I will probably go back and redo the really bad videos.
      Thanks for taking time out of your day, stopping by and providing good feedback.
