      The problem is that those studies may well have lowered carbs but they were *not* low carb which is 25 grams or less. Another problem is that kerogen is diets are *not* high protein because as every high schooler knows excess protein is turned into glucose. High blood glucose is anathema to ketosis. You vegetarians are debunking a diet that keto people are not eating. Not good for your credibility.

    I did WFPB years ago but I missed meat too much and after a few weeks I went back. Now several years later I am diabetic with high blood pressure. I did keto for awhile and lost a little weight and I did control my blood sugar. But not only was I still diabetic with high blood pressure, my cholesterol went from averaging 160 up to 239. I am now back to a WFPB diet, three weeks, and my blood sugar has been great. I can eat fruits and vegetables without my blood sugar spiking to over 200 for hours as it always did on keto. I had to stop taking my HBP medication because before with medication I was always 140/90 on average, and after one week on WFPB I kept getting very dizzy all the time. I checked my blood pressure and it was 70/45. After I stopped the meds it has come up to 116/65 consistently and I feel much better. I go back for a followup on my diabetes at the end of August. I look forward to my visit because my fasting sugar every morning for the last week has been 90-93. I know by August it will be better. I will also get my cholesterol checked and I am sure it will be greatly improved.

    I was vegetarian for 21 years. Despite exercising every single day I was slowly gaining weight each year. Moving to a wfpb diet last year I’ve dropped 15kg and have abs again at the age of 42! Sadly when people ask me how and I tell them they say “I couldn’t do that” doesn’t seem to matter how yummy my food is either. Some people just don’t care and would rather die early with their head in the sand. ☹️

The rest of my diet has very little restrictions (lots of chocolate and pizza/pasta in there as well), I just make sure that I get my antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. • @james64ibm
      @james64ibm Před 6 lety

      No. I also don't see how good advice can constitute a bad joke. Honestly, if you want to lose weight without feeling low in energy, having hunger or spend your days exercising and preparing meals, just make sure you get your minerals, vitamins (a basic multivitamin will do for these two, but real food should do fine if you know what you're doing), antioxidants (75% chocolate ftw, also decreases hunger and has slight anabolic properties) and your omega-3s (for me that's part flaxseed, part grass-fed milk, part fish), and then add lots of casein (about 60-70g per day will do fine). Beyond that, I consume anything I want - pizza, beer, pasta, whatever - I just try to limit sugar intake to an average of 50g a day.
      One major aspect of nutrition - that vegans don't get imho - is that it is about getting all the important stuff in rather than keeping unhealthy stuff out. That's the reason why the health of many vegans flourishes, at least at first, because it is the first time in their life that their body isn't deprived of vitamins. We cannot keep all carcinogenic substances out of our body either way, it is much more important to give our body the substances to keep that in check - turmeric, mustard, chili, weed and antioxidants in general are quite important here.

I have never felt better but I also eat about a pound of high fibre vegetables a day (zucchini broccoli and the like) and have .5 ketones 2,4, or 6 hours after I eat and 1 ketone in the period leading up to eating my one meal. My digestion is the happiest it has been since childhood. So I have foot in both camps and don't believe that it is either keto or plant based. I think it may vay a lot with individual metabolism. What I am pretty sure about is that you are not going to sell me on going back to eating grains and certainly not actual sugar. 75 years is enough.

      When I did keto, all the blogs recommended bacon, cheeses, eggs, and animal fats, with above ground vegetables. They unnecessarily demonized healthy whole foods like potatoes and fruits in place of these potentially unhealthy food sources. If you are getting a lot of fats from plant sources, that's great and potentially a better way to do this diet. However, this is not the mainstream opinion when it comes to keto. People like the idea of eating bacon and losing weight. Simple as that.

      @@sokratismethod1778 I agree with this, but that applies to any diet. Keto is meant to suppress your appetite so I am not surprised that you eat less now than on a wfpb diet. • @sokratismethod1778
      @sokratismethod1778 Před 5 lety

      @@RawrPokemonRawr Ok. Fair enough.
      Most of the fat I eat comes from plant based sources. I do nutritional ketodiet, which involves a great amount of cruciferous vegetables, seeds, nut, basically its a cleaned up paleo diet. Its not made to suppress hunger, its designed to balance insulin and get the body to use fat as a main source of fuel instead of glycogen by minimizing carb-intake, and avoid glyconeogenisis by applying a moderate protein intake. That hunger is suppressed is a byproduct. It balances much of the hormonal system, especially when combined with intermittent fasting.
      Im sure you already know all of this though. Never the less, its interesting that people have gotten stuck on it being for weight-loss. Id say weight-loss is a symptom of a hormonal system getting balanced. That being said, Im not proponent to eating bacon and cheese all the time, although I enjoy that I can if I want to without thinking that it would be bad for me(given that its good bacon and cheese)

Not a single study abstract or introduction mentioned that vegan diet was compared to healthy ketogenic diet. In those studies you mentioned that the control group was told to eat more animal/dairy based food, but was that a ketogenic diet? or just their normal diet with more animal based food? All those studies were so missleading, you compared healthy plant based diet to totally non healthy diet. I WANT TO SEE THE STUDY IN WHICH THEY COMPARED HEALTHY PLANT BASED DIET TO HEALTHY KETOGENIC DIET. I MEAN HEALTHY KETOGENIC DIET, NOT THE DIET IN WHICH THE KETOGENIC GROUP IS GIVEN FOODS WITH LOTS ON SOY OILS, 50% PROTIENS 30% CARBS AND 20% FAT. I WANT TO SEE A STUDY IN WHICH THEY COMPARED HEALTHY PLANT BASED DIET TO HEALTHY KETOGENIC DIET. and till then stop showing such studied which compared healthy vegan diet to non healthy diet. Eating wrong and bad fats on keto diet can be bad for you, eating to much sugar and carbs in different forms can be bad for you in a plant based diet. There are thousands of studies on the negatives of meat consumption, and I guarantee you won't find the same results in studies on Fruits, Vegetables, Whole Grains, legumes etc, and in fact you will find the complete opposite and many beneficial outcomes to human health. Both factory farmed and GRASS FED meat contain the same componants that have been well studied and are known to be harmful to humans, so grass fed meat may well be healthier than factory farmed, but both are still terrible for health and its really a case if you would rather be shot or hung. Meat and especially red meat (even grass fed) contain heterocyclic amines, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, N-nitroso compounds, heme iron, saturated fat, cholesterol, as well as high levels of methionine, carnitine, protein, and meat consumption significantly increases IGF-1 and TMAO production in the human body.
      There is a reason the WHO has red meat and processed meat on their human carcinogen lists. They don't form these lists because there 'might' be a risk of being harmful, they form these list based on MECHANISTIC (cause and effect) evidence, and both mechanistic and epidemiological data is overwhelming.

    It is amazing that doctors (doctors !!) recommend eating more meat and dairy products! There has been a setback in medicine because for 30 years all doctors have recommended patients with heart problems, diabetes etc. to eat LESS products of animal origin. I do not know in the US, but here in Brazil it is a tradition that when we visit someone in the hospital, we take fruits to give to that person, because they symbolize healthy eating.
    I raise a question here: would not large laboratories be interested in an increase in consumption of their medicines? And knowing that these great laboratories totally control the curricula of medical schools, would not they be behind this huge setback in the dietary recommendations made by doctors?

    Unfortunately these studies are not plant based vs keto, they are in fact plant based vs standard American diet. That is a huge difference. Plant based diets are shown to have positive effects against lots of markers and diseases, no question about that. Keto is also showing the same thing but there are no long term large participant studies, at least that i'm aware of. In my opinion it is very likely that what these two seemingly very different diets have in common that is the key. Both reduce or eliminate the highly processed garbage food so prevalent in the standard American diet today. In listening to talks by proponents on both sides I find it very interesting that the plant based promoters seem to go out of their way to trash keto at every opportunity and I really am not seeing much of it going the other way. I'm not sure if the plant based community feels threatened by keto or what but there certainly is a lot of that going on. According to lots of data, both these diets work.

    I am confused, the ketogenic diet is not about eating loads of meat!!! It's about eating a high amount of good fat (Olive oil, coconut oil, ...), tones of vegetables and only a very small amount of meat. As we all know, we don't need a lot of protein....too much protein just gets converted into sugar (a process called gluconeogenesis) and this will stop the body generating ketones.

    Huge difference!! Mixing poor quality high fats and oil with high glycemic carbs is horrible. The inflammation it causes leads to a host of metabolic disorders, from diabetes to coronary artery disease. • @pieterhartzer7884
      @pieterhartzer7884 Před 3 lety +2

      @chris evans The point I am trying to make is that vegans and keto both use facts to prove their point despite being contradictory:
      - Low carb high fat increases cholesterol.
      - Cholesterol increases risk of vascular disease.
      - Cholesterol is damages by sugar, thus not recognised and removed by the liver.
      They claim it to be fact but hide a lot of other research that goes along with it.
      These facts that you give is conflicting again dependent on who you get them from, which again proves my point of "whose" facts. There is no complete set that covers it all. Fibre is proven to be essential (even cellulose despite not being able to digest it), although some studies seems to indicate it's not.
      The farming/carbs/CMD relationship could be many things, for example increase in refined sugar, more stress, longer life expectency (can't develop heart disease over 40 if you're already dead by then).
      Again, my point was just the the facts are so nit-picked to fall in line with what they're selling that it's impossible to understand the whole truth.

    • @pieterhartzer7884
      @pieterhartzer7884 Před 3 lety +1

      @chris evans I am aware that my info is incomplete, which is why I used that as an example - granted I don't know it nearly as well as you in your message. The contradictions I refer to is not the science behind it but the vegan vs meat arguments, both using specific picks of the studies to prove their point, and their points are contradictory.
      If you have a video on the matter then please post a link as you seem to understand the subject rather well.
      Your links state fibre is not essential. Here is a link stating that it is important for a heap of reasons - www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7589116/

The single most offputting thing about the vegan diet to me is the somewhat toxic vegan community and their negative comments towards other diets and trends. (don’t blame me for having these experiences with SOME vegans)
    I’ve been following a ketogenic diet for about two years now and it really has saved me from type 2 diabetes. Today I live a happy life and to me that’s what matters.
    I won’t argue the fact that excessive consumption of red meats (or any meat for that matter) is harmful to your overall health. I still aim for a sufficient daily intake of vegetables and berries. I consume entire bags of spinach regularly.

On top of that i believe this type of studies are useless, trial studies are the way to go. Try to be more objective and less superficial if you want to debunk something tho.
