Your review of this plane is spot on! Thanks for your great videos. You are one of if not the only honest RC reviewers on CZcams. You tell it like it is and I really appreciate that.
I own the Night Timber X and I quickly found out that I was not ready for it as I stalled it into the ground 3 of my first 7 flights in SAFE! Since then, I have learned that I need to keep this plane moving and I have only stalled it into the ground 2 of my last 50 flights. I will say it's very durable as I have just had to glue it back together and it still flies great.
I still love my NTX. I fly mine with my neighbor in a park behind his house almost every night.
Its a handful but that is part of the fun.
I'm so glad you're seeing this in our videos. We try to share our real experience, even it's not 100% like we want ;)
As for being tough to fly, this and the Night Timber X are a TON harder to fly that their big brother, the Turbo Timber Evo 1.5m - which is way easier, but I was a bit BUMMED to see that this one doesn't have thrust revers ;( Oh well, still a great plane!
@@BrianPhillipsRC yea, I have the old turbo timber. It must be EZ to fly cause I flew it and it was my first ever plane and I had no problems. First ever sence I was building my own balsa planes in grade school with glow engined. So I knew nothing but what I learned from the ice man on CZcams. My dumb self darn near bought the A10 wart hog for my first. I wonder if I would have been able to fly it without destroying it. I'm glad I didn't get that fast mover for my first though. Thanks for teaching me how to fly man. Yank and bank Ice!
@@BrianPhillipsRC I was going to buy the Turbo Timber Evo but a used Draco popped up on my local classifieds for the same price so I had to get it.

Best flying plane I have.
Only thing I don’t like about it is the price to replace it if I crash.
Also I feel like all my other planes I can just glue back together and not care. If I damaged the Draco it would hurt my heart.
I have been lucky as I found the X to fly as slow as my first generation Turbo Timber in SAFE mode. Its been very easy to slow fly and is one of the reasons I keep going back to one of these as most of my flying is bush style from a very small field or opportunist lone flying in less than perfect conditions. It certainly doesn't like a tail wind if I am trying a slow speed turn although all planes have their limits... Out of SAFE however its a totally different plane and it can be very twitchy - especially if I forget to switch back to low rates before I switch out of SAFE - that's a real shock.
I have fallen in and out of love with these over the past couple of years but every time I sell one I find I own another within 6 months and tell myself THIS TIME I am going to master it as there is simply no other plane with this wide a flight envelope.
Yes! This plane is the best. Love mine. I fly it scale and it's still so much fun.
Its a great "scale" flyer especially in SAFE, I love flying out of my field during late evenings and watching the lights from hundreds of meters away getting steadily closer, carefully adjusting altitude with the throttle, before clearing the trees and sinking down to a perfect slow STOL landing. Its a great plane, shame I still cant find a more scale looking plane that works as well in my tiny field although the Maule comes close (a touch too big) and the clipped wing cub (good sink rate but no flaps).

i love this plane this was my first larger plane to take to the field when i joined the local club . this plane allowed me to fly scale around the field get my basic skills up. and progress thru some maneuvers before i try them next summer with a large mxs. so this was my beginner plane and my beginner 3d plane

As a newish pilot who got the Night Timber thinking I could do that, what kind of expo and rates do you use!? It was pretty white-knuckle for me and I decided to fly a lot more on my old trainer and someday I'll be ready to fly this thing!

Of all the planes I have, this is the one that my son looks at me as if to say "are you sure you really want to fly that dad?" as we are about to head to the field. One minute I am flying it like the worlds greatest trainer and the next I am doing some crazy un named manoeuvre and almost burying it. I think the final worker on the Timber X production line is someone who has red skin and horns sticking out of his head....

Recently sold mine (moment of madness to make more space in my fleet) but your video makes me miss it terribly....truth was though I mostly used it as a compact STOL plane that I used to stay in SAFE 90% of the time flying out of our tiny field and then dropping low over the tree line and floating back down with those huge flaps. Had some great flights flying out of rough fields nearby too and the undercarriage never let me down. Maybe try the night Timber X next...

Hi! I just bought a new one on the Frenzy sale, then spent most of the $80 savings on a 60 amp Avian ESC.

It's my third Timber X. The first crashed, the second was traded for a Turbo Timber after I almost crashed it. That was all a year and many successful flights ago.
The Avian gives me ESC telemetry. I really like a smart ESC's battery voltage feedback instead of just the timer, and you have some neat programming options too. For radio setup I Forward Programmed SAFE/AS3X/Gyros Off on the NX8 3 position B switch/AUX 3 channel. Then I set up flaps on G and coupled to ailerons in AS3X only. Timer 2 is setup to record flight time. All my switch settings have sounds on switch changes that I can turn off with the R Knob set as a volume control. Most of my models have this same setup, including an Avian ESC if the original was not Smart.
Programming SMART Select directly off a switch with Forward Programming is dead easy and much more dependable than using the Horizon SAFE Select bind/stick/switch change method.
Do you think just replacing the ESC - Avian 60 Amp(SPMXAE1060) with keeping the AR631 receiver, will get the telemetry data in radio?
@@anishanc6712 it will work. The 631 is telemetry capable receiver while the stock ESC is not. The Avian model you mention is a Smart ESC with telemetry. I assume you have a telemetry capable transmitter. Just got to the transmitter Telemetry settings and auto-configure to set up the transmitter once you upgrade the ESC. You might also need to re-bind, I can’t remember.
@@anishanc6712 more… the 631 does not have the capability to add external telemetry modules such as an altimeter. You would need a 637 or similar for that.

She is a squirly one for sure. Definitely one I practice with quite a bit on Horizon Hobby's Real Flight 9.5. I was practicing smooth low and slow consitent ovals around the runway in the simulator using my Spektrum NX8 Transmitter. (Awesome BTW) It took quite a few attempts to get a couple perfect, oval laps in a row. If I owned this plane I would destroy it immediately cause it's so fun to watch it spin out of control:) Thank you guys for the excellent video as always.
The new 9.5S update was much appreciated. I love that I can fly the Draco model without dropping $600. Came to realize I probably wouldn’t fly the Draco too much if I owned one, more of an scale eye candy purchase.

I wish I could have tried the RV7 in the simulator 1st. I hate that plane. Would have never purchased one. But she was also good looking. The valiant is a gem. Wish it was a little faster and stronger though.
Yes Kevin, like NickRivers says, I just broke out the RF9.5S as well last night, and was flying the Blade 330S and it is SO realistic. The physics are super close to reality, but the crashes are much cheaper ;)
NickRivers - I flew the Draco on the simulator and it seemed too tame to me...I think I need to figure out how to play with rates. I LOVE flying my Draco, but it's one of those planes I walk past so often, since I have a bunch of other deadlines for videos we have to put together ;(

I seen where someone put this 1.2 wing on the red 1.5 timber fuselage would be awesome to see that in a video. I think you get the top load lipo and shorter wing all in one! I’m pretty new I could be mistaken please correct me if I’m wrong
I have 231 filghts on mine now. Wonderful, wonderful STOL / Aerobatic airplane. On 4s 2200mah. You just can't go wrong with this one.
And your landing gear never broke? Mine breaks if the wind blows the wrong direction.

@@stevegraham3617 No. The landing gear on this airplane is crap. Butterfly landing gear. After destroying my original set, I bought another complete landing gear set and put double springs on it. Then I got 6" wheels instead of the factory 4" wheels giving me an extra inch of clearance from the prop to the ground. Works like a champ. A lot of work and a lot of additional weight, but with the 4 cell batteries, it still has endless power. Wonderful STOL airplane. Butterfly landing gear. After my Mods, I've had no problems and can finally enjoy flying this beast.

Just wanted to let you guys know how grateful I am for your videos. Discovered your channel this year after a 20 plus year Hiatus from RC planes. The technology has changed. Only problem is we have been spending a lot of money on this additional hobby, I am sure I would had to spend more if I hadnt discovered your channel. Hi Brian, Really enjoy your reviews, builds and general flying!!! As a friendly idea I would recommend that you incorporate 4-point rolls as a standard maneuver for each plane that is able to do that. And if the plane is capable run some truly wing vertical knife edges for as long as possible given your yard area. Thanks
I don't do that maneuver, but could work on it.
Disintegrated mine yesterday morning, Nose into the lake full throttle, She's a write off, but it was fun while it lasted :)

FYI, the NX6 will do safe and reverse thrust on the Turbo Timber Evo without sacrificing any features. We programmed SAFE on channel 5 and still have the lights plugged into channel 5, doesn't effect the lights and SAFE/AS3X works perfectly. The NX6 "virtual channel 7" we used for reverse thrust.

Some of the EARLY SMART ESC's weren't allowing lower channels for Thrust Reverse, but that has been changed to allow down to Channel 5 (I believe it's 5)...so if I was saying to the contrary, I apologize for any confusion - this MIGHT have been filmed before the change, or I just didn't know it time - sorry about that!

The Timber family, are clearly a great family of high wing planes. But, frankly, the OMP Bighorn (a lighter balsa and covering plane) is what all of these Timbers aspire to be. I continue to be surprised that you haven't reviewed the Bighorn yet. I promise that you will find it to be incredible with a 3s battery (which it's designed for), and a 4s turns it into an INSANE beast! It will become your go-to high wing airplane, an absolute ball to fly.

Thank you so much Steve. I have been an RC pilot for one year. I have spent probably $5000 on foam planes. I try to fly every day And currently have zero that can fly. Some sort of damage or disrepair. All horizon product of some kind. Most of my foam planes end up in a fatal crash from the poor quality of the control surfaces. Looking to transition to balsa. And also wondering why I can't find good info on the best alternative to foam for the next level pilot. I enjoy stunts, quickness and ability to fly low and slow controlled Patterns. Somewhere in between 3-D and and STOL. Do you have an opinion on the challenger? I cannot see myself buying another foam plane at this point. except the UMX Turbo timber. That thing is just too much damn fun to fly in my front yard. And it's my own fault if I can't wait to fly it when there's no serious wind and destroy it in the process. I'm from Los Angeles residential neighborhood. And can darn near take off and land that thing on the hood of my car...
@@kevincarter7102, although I've never personally flown an OMP Challenger, everyone I know that has flown it has given it high marks. If I recall, Brian also gave it virtually rave reviews. It's substantially cheaper than the Bighorn, but it's also, unfortunately, currently out of stock (which, sadly, is not uncommon for OMP products). But trust that they build super planes and are great to deal with (I buy through BuddyRC, but I've also purchased directly from OMP). Personally, I think the Bighorn is a lot more plane than the Challenger, but the cost is proportionally higher. I think that either would be a great intro to balsa planes. Frankly, I'd buy the Bighorn while it's in stock. BUT, I'd use Brian's link on the Challenger review and then buy the Bighorn, which would then give him credit for the sale (you're welcome, Brian). BTW - be advised that these planes are PNP and will require you to supply a receiver.

The OMP Challanger is amazing. I like it better than this plane.
Kevin - Foam is a lot easier to fix than Balsa Wood ;) Just remember that you can fix either, but Foam is such a forgiving media.
You're still very new, and you're getting better with every "learning experience" :) Just keep learning and getting better!!! It take time, and I know that patience is not your virtue, as it's not mine either, but time and repetition will help a lot - keep at it!
@@BrianPhillipsRC indeed but a lot of my crashes are hinges falling apart mid flight. They fall apart before I have the chance to crash them any more. I promise take any horizon plane fly it on 3 good batteries every day. Their life span 3 weeks tops before something has fallen of like the whole front of the plane. I landed my valiant with the motor dangling by 2 of the wires. Only thing holding it on the plane.

Hi Brian, very good video, i having some problems with my timber and my dx8g2 remote control, i am triyibg the advanced setup, but when i mix the flaps they are working the wrong way, one goes up and stay stock there, could you help me ?
On my maiden flight I had the prop jump off and destroy a bit of the front part.. I just don't understand how this happend, I did put the prop shaft all the way back just like you, does it need to snap or be screwed in some way apart from just slipping it back all the way?
You probably just have to tighten it more. These prop adapters just get tighter and tighter until you can't do any more, so if you're having difficulty tightening it, possibly have someone give it a crack when you're done, and see if it goes any further for them. Also, when using THRUST REVERSE, if it's now activated on this plane (ours was PRE-thrust reverse, if I recall correctly), then you might need to check it from time to time to make sure it doesn't back off on it's own.
The surfaces are huge on that with short wings and Ice on the sticks means things are going to be wiled.

You can do flaperons on this plane and make it a TRUE 3D plane. Surprised you didn't do that here. Love this plane.
I didn't think it would be necessary, and to be honest, I think I need to put the elevator and Rudder into the inside most holes to make them more crazy, for good 3D performance ;)
I set mine up (night) for flaperons. It DOES wake up the roll rate! For anyone interested you will need to add one 4-6 inch servo extension. The Y cable can be used as an extension with one lead open for one side and a regular extension for the other side. On second thought I think I just used the bind extension along with the open ended (one side open) Y to allow both sides.

Along with the reverse thrust option being unavailable unless you have the available channels on your radio! @@BrianPhillipsRC Doesn't really deserve to be called a V2 with only another receiver. V1.1 would have been more appropriate at most. 😉
I wish you mention the configurations for full wing ailerons, it is one of the most exiting features of this plane, reason why I bough it :) you need to feel how it rolls when in full ailerons and the fact that you can still use the flaps I think is out of this world.
8 Channels will be enough and you will need to configure some mixing.
Timber X night can do it as well not sure about Evo
I think the roll rate is too high with the stock ailerons only, but just my preference. I'm not really a 3D pilot.

Awesome Brian ! Another great video ! I absolutely love my Timber X. Flown it probably 500 times. Two servos have failed, gears been ripped out, and my rudder servo keeps coming unglued from inside the fuse. Don’t know why and i continuously re-glue it. Any ideas? Thanks !
Loads of torque on there. If it keeps coming out, glue it back in, then make a plate over the top with more contact area, and you'll probably never have to do it again.

Brian you were mentioning the slats and not wanting them on the X, but what about the slats on the UMX Turbo Timber? I am new to fixed wing and don’t know if I want to put them on.

Any suggestions on pneumatic tires?
I just picked up this plane and 2 4s 3200mah batteries. Everything works except I can't get Safe to program on my F switch. I have flaps on D switch, Dual rates on A switch and throttle cut on C (DX6 controller). When I go to Monitor, my D switch moves switch F also. Switch F doss nothing to the aircraft. Wondering if any one has ideas. I'm sure I did something wrong in setting but can't find it. Thanks!
I want low rates only , as this is my first 3 d ish plane low rates are on switch a normal mode when I move switch a to bail out or safe mode the rates as default are slightly more than my low-rate setup, can I lower the "safe" rates down without affecting safe mode ?
Rates are to do with your STICK position, SAFE handles the actual OUTPUT of the control surfaces, is an easy way to see this. Your rates will be EMULATION of maximum stick position, while SAFE runs on the Rx, AFTER you've made your flight inputs.

Just got one, 4 times it has just spiraled right down to ground while in safe. 2nd time found a broke aileron mount on left side and fixed it. Flew through a pack mainly using rudder. Then flew again then spiraled out again when it hit the ground. No mounts or anything broke, anyone know why this may happen. Receiver in tight all connections tight and servos seem to bee working great.
Keep flying...gotta keep moving. SAFE will not stop a stall, especially on the 1.2m...1.5m is a lot more forgiving, but not surprised she's "slipping out" from under the wing. High lift, HIGH DRAG, and SAFE...makes it look like a hot air balloon, but the plane still needs to be moving forward.
Brian, when using shelf or drawer liner rather than Velcro on the battery tray or floor, do you use Velcro on the battery or are the liner and the straps enough to keep everything in place?
100%, but they do GOOP up the battery if you get them REAL hot ;)

As for the Turbo Timber Evo 1.5m - yes, it would be a great choice, but it is VERY capable, and might almost make you think all planes will be so "over-powered" and easy to fly ;) I'd suggest you get it, and fly the wings off!

Hey Brian. Hopefully you can help. I have a DX9 Transmitter. My Timber X has an AR631 Receiver. I programed it with SAVE as an option. All control surfaces travel in the correct direction with SAFE on, and in AS3X. Unfortunately the Gyro throws are traveling in the wrong direction. NOT leveling the airplane, but throwing it further out of whack, and into an immediate spin. Do you know how to reverse the Gyro travel directions. If you do, let me know please. THANKS
This happened to me and Esteban my friend ONCE on his UMX Cirrus SR22T. We NEVER got it fixed, and had to have Horizon Hobby replace it, since it was a UMX, we didn't have any flexibility.
Fortunately, you should be able to FIX YOURS. Go in and RELEARN SERVO POSITIONS. If that doesn't work, you might have to check the physical position of the Rx. If it's NOT showing correct on your visual in Forward Programming, it won't work until it is right. If you're working with a BNF, then you might need to factory reset your Rx, and then just walk through the First Time AS3X setup and then later First Time SAFE setup. If you can't reset to factory defaults, you might need to update the firmware with one of these... Avian ESC Programmer Firmware Updater bit.ly/3PFWmZY

My number one recommendation on your demos is to set your flight timer to trigger above 10-25% throttle and shut off when below. That gives a true flight time as the general user will see in real life. Any time the throttle is cut the battery drain is next to nothing so a timer running at low/no throttle is misleading folks new to the hobby. Saying “we chatted for 2 minutes on the ground so reduce the time shown” is kind of accurate. A timer triggered to shut off at low throttle is way more accurate!
"one out" is the way I trigger my timers unless I'm dealing with a sail plane...where I can fly for literally hours.
There is no such think as a "True" flight time...everyone has different flight styles and habits. There's not a RIGHT way and a WRONG way...we can all set up our timers the way we like. That's the beauty of this system. To all their own.
Flight times can vary wildly depending on how you're flying. Especially in 3D or highly aerobatic planes. In a sport plane...like Cherokee 1.3m for example, you and I would probably get very similar flight times, using the same equipment, but when you're talking about a 3D plane, like the Timber X, you and I may experience larger deviations in flight times.
As for adjusting our flight times to how long we were talking after landing or on the ground in the middle of a flight, is just a ballpark. I don't expect anyone to follow these exactly, but if you did, I try to err on the safe side, as to help keep people from dead stick landings.

When I’m flying with safe (I haven’t tested it without safe yet) the plane just wants to climb and I don’t know how to stop it as when the flaps are up the elevator is aligned and straight but it still just wants to climb

Hello Ryan amazing plane as always! I have a question though. I bought the RTF aeroscout 2 1.1 meter and I’ve flown it 5 times now. Occasionally while it’s in the air, the engine cuts off even when the throttle is 75% engaged. The plane was roughly like 100 ft away from me up in the sky. The batteries are original and can assure you that they had plenty of power left. I just don’t know what’s wrong with it
I want you to do a RANGE TEST. This is a test where you will intentionally cut the power of the Tx from 100% down to 10% and you'll walk back from the plane (on the ground) and see when you LOOSE CONTROL OF IT. This is an easy test that will tell you the RANGE of your Tx and Rx. Have a spotter watch while you put the Tx in RANGE TEST MODE, then move the sticks on the AILERONS AND ELEVATOR, and when they stop moving, you'll know that you're 10% of the range of your system when OUT of RANGE TEST MODE...so if you're only 25 feet away, you'll only have 250 foot range...then if you stop at 100 feet, you would assume you'll have a 1000 foot range... and so on and so forth. This test will help you Identify if you have a bunk Rx / Tx...then you can start the process of fixing the issue...if it's fixable.
Sorry you're dealing with this issue, but it does happen. In FACT, I had a subscriber visit me this last summer. He ordered an Aeroscout 1.1m and had it delivered here to our house, ahead of his arrival....we had this EXACT problem here - What a bummer! We did the same test I'm recommending to you...then he had to pack it back up and talk to Horizon Hobby to get a replacement sent out.
Good luck with your fix. You can figure it out. If you confirm bad Tx/Rx - get with Horizon Hobby and ask them to help you fix it.
Hi, i have this exact same problem in aeroscout now. I have flown it many times without a problem , but now i have this issue.
Sometimes approx 100m away the engine cuts off for 1 second. Sometimes it happens 2 or 3 times in one flight. Did you find where is the problem?

Hi Brian , when deploying the flaps is the elevator correction instantaneous . I recently bought the timber x , but there is a pause before the elevator moves after putting flaps down. It jerks down , not a smooth transition at all.
We want a delay as the balloon is not instant. If you set your flap delay to 2 seconds, both your flaps and elevator correction will happen at the same rate.

I want to buy this timber x. I do not have a receiver. Would it be better to just buy a super cub rtf that come with a receiver and then use that receiver with the timber x too? It would only cost about 60$ more for the rtf cub with receiver. What do you guys think?
I have another question. What 4S battery to use in this plane. In German manual for this plane is recommended 4s 2200 30c. On their EFLITE page is also recommended 4s 2200 30c.
Only in English manual is recommended 4s 2200 50c. I can have 3 baterries 30c for two 50c. Is there a big difference? Big difference in price.
You can use the 30C no problem, but if you harrier the entire flight, you'll eventually puff it.
Just don't push it like I do, for long flight times, and you can do 30C or 50C...whatever makes sense for your fleet of planes ;)

Hi Brian, Im confused with the as3x. I have Aeroscout and now I have decided to buy Timber X.
I bought NX8 receiver. I bind these two planes with safe select binding plug with BNF templates in the receiver.
Now there is problem, both aircrafts react with control surfaces when I flip them upside down, but Timber only in SAFE position, on Safe OFF postion with as3x active, there is no sound and no moving of ailerons, elevator etc. I dont know if the as3x is active or not.
Aeroscout too is only responding when I swith to beginner mod. Medium or advanced do nothing. no aircraft parts moving, no buzzing of the servos.
Also I cant select forward programing for the Aeroscout in the NX8 reciever.(failed to connect)
In the Timber X, I can select forward programing and I have SAFE and as3x on gear 1 and only as3x on gear2. Bit nothing is moving with as3x only.
When I tried to bind Aeroscout back to my DSX receiver with safe bind plug, servos are only responding in beginner mode.
Another thing is that if I fully deploy flaps in the Timber X there is buzzing sound of the servo, like if its trying to deploy flaps even more. (its the default BNF template in the NX8).
Sorry for my english and I would really appreciate some tips about the as3x in both aicrafts. THANKS!

Thanks, and if you want to have a great experience, you might consider getting a Spektrum Tx...I realize they're expensive, and some would say WAY TOO expensive, but I AM MR CHEAPSKATE himself, and I bought a DX18 (with my own money...not a "sample") ....that being said, we have had several "Samples" since then , to be clear...
I don't want you to struggle, but at the same time, I HAVE USED OPEN TX....and guess what, it was such a PIA, I couldn't handle it.
We have a video of the UMX F4U Corsair and I think we did an OMP T720 and another OMP....we had been promised we'd be able to use it with all our little Micro's from XK, Eachine, and all the cheap Chinese brands, but I found out quickly, there's a LOAD of work, and sometimes it just doesn't work - I gave up on fighting it ;(

I don't like this plane for a beginner. You COULD in a pinch, but I wouldn't recommend it. You'd be better off with the 1.5m, but if you want this for now and just to have something to work up to, since it's on sale, I could see getting it and just doing HIGH expo and flying it with SAFE...

I don't think Flapperons will help with Harriers...it'll probably make it worse. I think what you might mean is FULL LENGTH AILERONS???
If so, it's all done in Forward Programming and pulling out the "Y" Cable in between the FLAPS, so they'll each be on an independent channel. I believe the manual speaks to this, if you're curious.
I'm looking for a harrier on its own switch. Then another 3 position switch for safe, as3x, and then full flaperons.

I have the V1, which has he same crap A332(R) servo's as the V2. So no improvement on that unfortunately. My servo's just start to vibrate in their middle position and it's getting worse. 😟 Looking for replacement servo's with enough arm-length (20 mm) or servo's that can fit the arms of these... I have my flaps on different channels and use them to extend the ailerons with a switch which gives great rollrate. Can also still use them as flaps. 😎
I wonder what you're doing wrong. I've not had a single issue with my servos on this or any timber...don't get me wrong...we've had servos die, and some DOA (Which REALLY sucks) but not on the Timbers? Are you on 11ms Refresh Rate or something strange????
@@BrianPhillipsRC I've been using it about 8 months, flying almost every weekend. Refresh rate is at 22ms and it's not all servo's that have this behavior, only the wings so far. It started with one flap-servo but ailerons are now also vibrating and it's getting worse. I don't even know the specs of these servo's, can't find it anywhere.

@@QuaxDerBruchpilot100 Thanks for the info. The problem with Emax servo's is there seem to be a lot of fakes, just like with TowerPro servo's. The problem that one servo needs to be in oposite direction is not an issue for me because I use seperate channels for my flaps (so I can use them as ailerons as well). Where did you buy yours and how long are the servo arms?

I think offering the night style lighting is great, but I'll opt for the more traditional nav lights in EVERY PLANE first ;)
Im quite surprised how bad this plane fly in the slight wind. Even with As3x active its far worse than with the Aeroscout. Slight wind gusts and the plane almost turned over.
With heavy 4s 2200 battery is much better but still. Maybe its because the wing area is large? I dont know.
Also when I change battery for the same type to the exact spot in the airplane and the CG is the same I need to trim the aircraft again.
Its seems to me like when I change the battery the trim is reset, but its not true. Its not fun trimming the plane with every new battery.
Flight time is very limited with 2200mAh and if you spend some time trimming the plane again and again its annoying.
It is very under-stable. The 1.5m is a HUGE improvement.

It is in FACT the same plane with lights - Night Timber X ;) But the night timber x is more expensive, so this one does well too, I guess - I WOULD GET THE NIGHT - it is impressive in the dark!

I have the entire family of Timbers and many more planes besides including 3D built up planes. This (actually the Night version) is by far my least favorite of all my planes and I wished I’d never purchased it. It has bad coupling between aileron, elevator and rudder which are readily on display if you try to fly knife edge. Frankly an ugly flier which readily tip stalls. I see my experience with it is not unique. One must keep power and speed up with this plane if you hope to favorably influence its flight path. On the positive side, it is relatively easy to transport and has a good landing gear arrangement for grass fields.

OMP Bighorn is so much better than this, suggest people check it out. I like watching Brian's videos, but I wish they would talk about more varied planes rather than just doing Horizon's marketing for them. Slight cultural difference too I guess, us Brits just call it out if a plane is flawed, whereas our American friends condemn it with faint praise. Anyhow loving the enthusiasm for our hobby, and regards to camera crew - why not give her some flying lessons!
We work with OMP through BuddyRC, but they haven't sent the Bighorn (which they DID commit to doing some time ago). We've also done the Challenger, which is GREAT, and the OMP Bushmaster - another AMAZING plane, but when we work with these "other" brands, they don't always have us review everything...which is annoying, but their choice, but it's really frustrating, since then I get to read comments like yours, Andrew, as though we've been somehow "deceptive" or "less that fully honest" - which we have NOT BEEN! This pisses me off, and I get sick and tired of apologizing for doing the right thing! There are ALWAYS better options, but the Bighorn is also a HELL of a lot more money, so it's an apples to oranges comparison. When we share about a plane, we're sharing our experience, not EVERY experience. It's one plane at a time - how the heck else are we supposed to do it...compare hundreds of planes to each plane we've ever reviewed - give me a break!
Bighorn PNP - $299 + $85 (AR631) -$115(AR637T) for the Rx = $384 - $414
VS
Timber X BNF - $299
Thus, it's not a small price difference, but to all their own. I would take the BIGHORN + AR631 over the TimberX too, for what it's worth, but how can we make that comparison, off the cuff, like it's the SAME thing - IT'S not, the Bighorn is 25% MORE expensive. It's expected to be better for that price difference.
BUT, we're not going to do this, and tear apart EVERY plane, just because other planes MIGHT edge them out for a few bucks - WHO CARES! It's just money, and we don't even usually see the pricing, or act due to pricing. That's for the customers to make up their mind, and for you, over in EU - you're paying WAY more than us.
Anyway, I suspect you didn't make your comment to be cutting, but seriously...just got done busting ass for weeks to make a hole in the schedule big enough to fly to Alabama for an event to see our audience in person, and this comment gets me at the end of 28 hours in two days work leading up to our trip, and nothing but stress ballz here, since we're getting started on our pond project, which could be one of our largest projects, to date for Megan and I...and I'll be half way across the country serving our beloved hobby...give us a break!
Relax and enjoy your flying, your content is fun to watch and I respect the work you put in. Have you tried the OMP M2? It's great little heli. OMP are killing it right now imo, some great products at good price points. M4 is awesome but I couldn't face building one - I really hope they produce a BNF M3. I'm just not into the ever-more-expensive foam warbirds and EDFs Horizon are churning out. I think transitioning intermediate pilots from foam to balsa is an open goal right now, that's why I mentioned the Bighorn. @@BrianPhillipsRC
