Great video! de W2CSI
Thx.
Hi Frank,
The external display port is a DVI standard that can supply HD video however will resist much more abuse than HDMI or Display Port type connectors. It can also be secured with screws to prevent accidental disconnection. This port will serve you better long term especially in the field in rough environment.
73.
It's also cheaper as HDMI requires licensing fees to the manufactuer.
Great Video Frank, thank you for sharing.
Thanks Janice.
I was torn between this and the FTDX-10. But dang HRO has the FTDX-10 for $400 off right now, so I caved and went the FTDX route instead. I like your field setup :-)
Same here. The dx10 was a no brainer at $1299 last weekend. The front end hybrid superHed and the roofing filters are amazing. Coming from the 7300 i couldn't believe the difference. Ill be curious how long these two stay close in price. I bet the dx10 will go up to 1499 soon and the ft-710 will go down to 1199 in a few months after the glow wears off like all new releases.
I have a DX10 in my ham shack, and I'm considering purchasing another DX10 for field use. These radios are really amazing. The filtering is probably one of the best in the market, today.
My shack is 100 feet from two sets of long haul high power electricity transmission lines, so great filtering capabilities under $1.5k was my main requirement. So the 101 was out and when I first looked the DX10 was too. I was looking at the IC7300 vs the new 7100. But then the coupons and deals started coming out for the DX10 and at $400 off, I pulled the trigger.
Those Roof filters and the antenna design I'm doing are going to hopefully make my shacks location not so noisy. Sucks, you can hear the power lines on a quiet day, but this is the only spot on my property zoning would let me building this building. Fingers crossed, I'm hoping to establish backup comms between Georgia and New York/west Virginia/Florida to be able to communicate with family in the event we loose the internet/cell networks
@@forgetyourlife There have been so many videos and forum posts about this vs the 7300. As a 7300 user now I have been contemplating trying out the DX-10 or (maybe) the DX-101. It seems the consensus is that the RX is that much better than the 7300 by many including the Sherwood report. Hmmmmmm
@@forgetyourlife Well, right now it's 300 dollars off, they are still on "sale". But, yes it is a no brainer to buy the DX10.... which I did....shh..... :)
I currently own the dx10 and have aft710 as a loner that Iâm playing with . The biggest drawl for me to buy it is that itâs the newest and does very well. Iâm getting great reports.
Me too. Itâs a nice rig especially for me in the evenings where the contacts start to get light over here in Southern California. Iâm able to pull out some more contacts when I do POTA. But of course this is anecdotal. More research must be done.
Thanks for the heads up about the battery ...They look superb ! .. just bought the 710 .. looks hot đđđ€Łđ€Ł
Nice radio!!
Thanks for the basic videos and instruction on the 710. W5MMS
If I remember the prices at HRO Superfest in Milwaukee, both radios were priced at $1299 during the event.
I almost bought a FTDX10, but after using the radio for some time at HRO, I went home empty handed for many reasons.
I never considered the FT-710.
Today, at HRO, the price of the FT-710 is $1299. The FTDX10 is at a mind blowing $1700 minus $200 additional savings bringing it to $1500. I might reconsider the FTDX10, but I need to see the price under $1300. Preferably at $1000 like the Icom 7300 use to be priced. At $1000, the FTDX10 probably will fly off the shelves.
The FT-710 is nice and it's a great first radio. There is a difference in quality between the two radios. The DX10 is the next level and at the same price... it was a no brainer to buy it. I'm not sure if the dx10 will ever go down to $1000, but I'm sure it will go down to $1300.
hi, please put more videos in ssb receiving please
My understanding is the video port used because of licensing. Thereâs no cost to the electronics in this radio for the video port. Anything else would add cost to the radio.
Yes the colored ones are from sotabeam but the larger blue & black one that had your antenna in it was from somewhere else. I looked on sotabeams and could not find it.
The black one is from 5.11. Itâs an emergency ready bag. www.511tactical.com/emergency-ready-bag.html?queryID=d66ba5f63932f8b6fb645c7dc7d83035&objectID=246509&indexName=magento2_productiondefault_products. If you search my channel, I have a video on that. As for the big blue one that one came with some rope that I bought for putting up in Antennas. If I can find the link, Iâll put it up for you. 73
to me i would say its a a 450d replacement brought more to date and a bigger price tag
I own a IC 7300 FT-710. And Xiegu G90. I can say with total honesty and integrity. The FT- 710 has the best recieve by far.. The G90 has a better tunner. The 7300 is way easier to navigate for the novice. And sounds great out of the box . However working all 3 rigs Technically. The 710 takes the nod.. all worked on a 7 element yagi... All that said . I would take a Xiegu G90 in the field. That rig will tune a wire fence..
Frank, what kind of bag is your antenna bag? Like your videos! Thanks
Those are from SOTABeams. www.sotabeams.co.uk
nice setup! mine will be here on Monday, need to ask.. since the radio has a touch screen, will an ext touch screen monitor work with this unit, through the DVI port, or just a normal monitor?
I havenât tried putting a monitor on it. I donât think if you have a monitor that you can touch it will also operate the radio.
@@frankwc0o ya, we couldn't get that lucky! đ€

@@JayN4GO Oh, hope somebody else take over his spot. AG6JU
Not many front panel buttons... and the dials aren't concentric, so I'm not sure how well it''ll handle with separate volume and RF gain dials. Hmmmm, I don't see it being a 7300 killer.
Ya, that was strange that the RF and AF are separate dials. As for buttons, nope it's no DX10 either. The Rx audio is not bad, but many are selling this as the next best thing because it's not 5 years old. But I think people who review these radios, forget that user interface is super important. The IC7300's menus are way better - although the 710 has a better interface than the 991A.
where can I buy it, I'm visiting the NJ area de HC7TMS, nice video
Check out hamradio.com see if they have some.
Thanks for vid. I am studying for my general and killing myself to figure out first HF rig. bought a G90 (good deal used) cause i want to do portable (i live in strict HOA). Fired it up last night first time ever on wolf river coil vertical, not sure I like it, alot to learn and not very user friendly. Both my elmers have 991a, which i am scared i will not like due to deep menu system. I am seeing used 991a for around $850 nice cause shack in box and i like fusion. Used 7300 out there for $850 but cant run external monitor and old technology (maybe shouldnt bother me). Really want a FT710 but would eat up all my funds. I have FTM400 and FTM200, those are decent but not great. Would love to go Icom, but alot of Fusion around me. DO YOU THINK like the FT710 or 7300 for first radio?? KD9IRA
You need to look at more videos on using the 7300 and 710. I have a beginners guide video on the 7300. You will notice that the menus are easier to use. Unfortunately, just like the 710 the 7300 has no UHF/VHF. It's something that is inconvenient, but as you work with HF you will soon find out that it's a lot of fun especially if you start with POTA communication. It takes time to figure things out, it took me a couple of years to learn HF. So start slow, it's a hobby and have fun with it. Everyday you go out with your radio, it's another experience you have to do better next time.
@@frankwc0o thanks for thoughtful reply. I know the 7300 would be great but hard to spend 850-900 for used 7300 when a new FT710 is 1040 with warranty and will drive a separate monitor and includes speaker... $140 difference. I just seen a clean 991a for about $850, but again, no warranty, terrible interface (deep menus) and it is less then 200 less then a new Ft710...I have three nice dual band vhf/uhf rigs... shack-in-box would be GREAT but i think Yeasu next one will likely be like $1500-1700ish...
IF you came here to see the FT-710 it is at :17:45.
If you look at the Sherwood engineering numbers on this transceiver, this is not an entry level rig IMO. Maybe price wise. Tecnology on the move. :)
Apparently so, now that it's number 4. Yaesu needs something like this to get its lunch back from the IC7300. Now that the FT101 is gone, the IC7300 is the darling of Ham Radio.
Carry it in a shopping bag!!
Doesn't it weigh like 10lbs ?
The rear panel picture corresponds to another Yaesu !! (FTdx10) ... wtf ...
OH, man..... crut..... I just got the dx10 and I must of mixed the two. Both have DVI ports. Mistakes happen.. Good catch.
Whats the current draw of the ft-710 when just turned on listening? edit: 1.6 amps, thank you.
Ya, it's about 1.6 - 1.8. Not too bad. At 80w it's about 11 or less. The 144WH bioenno battery can handle it.
@@frankwc0o the dx10 (new to me last Saturday) is a hungry beast. I found it consumes 3.1 amps on RX. I find it amazing that the 7300 only used 1 amp.
@@forgetyourlife Ham Radio Dude has a pretty detailed look at the dx10 current draw with various settings on... I don't think I saw it go that high in his testing. It can sit around 2amps if you bring the backlight down etc.
@@Kinetic79 maybe itâs the new firmware. Dude had his on day 1 release.
This a new radio?
Yes it is. Full SDR radio from Yeasu.
What size battery are you using there?
144 Wh or 12AH from bioenno
@@frankwc0o and thatâs enough for the atu also?
@@lonewolfhamradio external tuner? No. Built in ATU yes.
@@frankwc0o thanks Frank, I think I have a battery that will do that, just need the 710 now!
After the FTDX 10 problems you couldn't give me a Yaesu radio.
wow, really. I thought the firmware updates were covering many issues. Any more issues they need to resolve for the dx10?
Great video! But you're wasting time dude. Now is the time to upload a video using this radio because alot of people don't have it and we are so curious to see how it works. Not just running though the features, actually USING it and making contacts with weak signals, digging them out of the noise so that we can see the contour and notch, and compare a full SDR to a hybrid like the FT-DX10. You've got one there man. 10 days after this video and nothing. Do it! lol
Ya dude, I know what you mean.
Meh
Latest but not the greatest!! That scope is rubbish!
