The first time I heard this song, it just blew me away, I was on that blue train at that time in my life so I felt the emotion of the lyrics in real time, that beautiful haunting voice and drop dead gorgeous to boot, makes me all the more depressed about her current circumstances Godspeed Linda Ronstadt, you're a one-of-a-kind Talent... Thankyou!

I have to praise Linda for not selling out for the sake of a hit record. She has kept all of her integrity thru the years - and as anyone who reads the covers of the "Rags" while in the check out line can attest - keeping your integrity intact nowdays is impossilbe (even for a successful career that spans only a couple of years) but to do it for many, many years is quite an accomplishment. With Linda that place inside her where the music comes from has never changed - I hope it never does.

I second that emotion! She is just simply unmatched in my opinion. Dolly said Linda was the best of our generation, Emmylou said," i thought i was hot stuff until i heard Linda". Linda's voice was otherworldly, a gift from God for all the world to enjoy. Thank you God for sharing Linda with us and watching over her.

I have to admit I get jealous when I see she only won 11 Grammys. But she our home town girl. Also I have to remember all the category’s she has won and that is extra special. She never sang for awards. Funny how I let it get to me. Oh well.

To those who say that Linda's vocal is not quite up to par here, let's keep in mind that she did this performance at 7 o'clock in the morning. Think about that, wake up, clear your throat, go to the studio and try to sing like you have had hours to prepare.
All that considered, I still find this particular performance very sweet. Even when she isn't at her best, she is still light years above so many.
    Miley Cyrus, anyone?

I love these live performances of Ms. Ronstadt as one who deeply regrets not having become a groupie, and attended every concert or show she performed in the metropolitan of New York. Listening to live performances when she had a cold or perhaps just had "morning voice" makes her all the more human and present to me.
Thank you so much for capturing one such performance.

I so like your comment. It sums up Linda. She has this power-house voice -that can match Mick Jagger on Tumbling Dice and The Holllies on Just one Look but can still be quiet when required. Her version of Dedicated to the one I Love sums ths up. This pretty, fragile song was sung by Michele rather than Mama Cass because Mama's voice would have overwhelmed it. Linda sang it and did not overwhelm it because she held back. She sings gently when required and it is so finely judged,

      Watching the long faces
      Riding this run down track
      And the lost places
From a dream that never brings them back
And the sad truth is nothing but a cold hard fact
      I'm riding the blue train
Over the miles yet to cover
A ghost in a hurry to fade
I'm taking it one way to nowhere
      Afraid you might be there
To find me inside this blue train
      Counting the burned bridges
      Trailing this rusted wreck
      As our back pages
Scatter in the dust we left
      Like a pearl necklace
      Fallen from around your neck
      I'm riding the blue train
Over the miles yet to cover
A ghost in a hurry to fade
I'm taking it one way to nowhere
      Afraid you might be there
To find me inside this blue train
      Away down the low road
A ticket to an empty room
      A rendezvous unknown
      I'm riding the blue train
Over the miles yet to cover
A ghost in a hurry to fade
I'm taking it one way to nowhere
      Afraid you might be there
To find me inside this blue train

I listened to the O'Connell version, but I like the Ronstadt w/Emmylou version better. It has a more haunting sound I like and I like the way they blend their voices as the song fades out with their voices mimicking a train horn when they extend the word "blue-ooh" over and over...but it's not done in this clip. Although I do not agree with her liberal politics she is undoubtedly the most versatile vocalist with a tone and pitch that soothes the savage beast. I saw her live back in the old days, the HEART LIKE A WHEEL tour where I happily discovered how dedicated she is to her craft and respectably treating musicians as her peers. She told a story of playing here a while back and the owner was angry and poured a pitcher of beer over her head! Thank you for posting this Sammy H. I wish she could still sing...........
