Im a Max/Maya rigger thats moving over to Houdini and KineFX. I did the traditional rigging of the soldier tutorial to give me some insight, but am transferring to using KineFx. I have some grounding (I did the fur dude tutorial) but currently only on H18.5. I have access to H19.0 so will be looking to take this up sooner rather than later. I have been very impressed with the paradigm of KineFx and look forward to taking this further. Thanks for the chat and info, very helpful.

Gpu accelerated deformer nodes and gpu based parallel evaluation mode with cached playback system, maya can handle quite complex rigs when playing back animation at 60 fps. Not to mention that the animation tools and editors in maya are polished and production proven.
There is a reason why Maya is top level animation software 😅

I want to learn houdini and use it as my main (and only) 3d software. But i see a lot of comment online discouraging me. There are a lot varying opinions. I don't even know who to believe. Should I go ahead with houdini?
Go ahead with your porpose and you´ll find your own way

Since i am working in Houdini, i don't even want to Touch Maya anymore.
Python is actually still relevant in Houdini…. I mainly use it to store vex I use over and over but I’m sure there’s more applications for it.

@@ironknightzero Animation/ Rigging is also a perfect Job to do inside Houdini. But most animators and riggers are indeed working with Maya still .. but i worked 9 Years with Maya. Did everything from Rigging to Walter Sim . Enough from all These Crashes and limitations. Love my Job more than ever
how do you rig a characters face with a joint or bone based rig? i dont want to use a blend shape rig
