Nah Jiri said he was out and it was a good stoppage. Straight from the horses mouth. What you see and what is actually happening inside Jiri's head is 2 different things. Refs job is to mitigate further injury and Jiri was about to get pummeled to a pulp...he said after the ringside interview AGAIN he was out and it took 30 seconds for him to realize where he was. Probably saved Jiri from a long break, now his leg is just fucked up instead of his orbital bone or his brain.
Jiri was just being a class act. Even when he has a reason to be upset , he takes the high road. He didn’t want to take away from Alex. But I know he feels like that was early. He told me.

I disagree, it was stopped a little early, but if it continued 5 more seconds Jiri would not survive. Also I think the first round belonged to Alex. The judging criteria states damage trumps all and Alex did most of the damage with the leg kicks.
Maybe another 3 secs but more ground n pound was incoming. Jiri has HONOR in defeat as he is a Samurai and admitted he was " OUT ", the return of The Samurai will be soon !!

Jiri slumped back unconscious. Alex had full mount and was inches away from landing wicked elbows.
Slightly early stoppage maybe. But Alex would've ended that fight in 3 seconds from that position.
Also worth noting that Jiri has come off of one of the worst injuries in MMA. Nobody wanted to see him take unnecessary damage.

But it wasn't a great stoppage. In my opinion, if its a world title fight in the biggest MMA organization, let the fighters go out on their shield. It was a bit sus and took away from Alex's win for a lot of fans.

ive always thought ciryl dismantles sergei on the feat this fight proves it to me more. ciryl is the best heavyweight in the world on the feet but i think tom wins by ground game in that fight. Tom is impressive and has the best chance to beat jones.

At the end of the day thier has to be a winner and loser , even if some say bad stoppage , jiri put himself in that positition , by getting caught and dropped you are making the ref focus on you because thats the refs job, id rather he stop it and it be considered a bad stop than let it go and he get pummled into oblivion n take damage that could of been avoided , especially being hurt by his left hook and him getting full mount on you, nah at the end of the day the ref job is to keep the fighters safe , we as fans cant be selfish and wants the fighters health be put in even more danger

Nor does it negate the fact that he was dropped, his arms went limp, and he was mounted all by a guy literally named *"Hands of Stone".* Do you really believe things would've gotten better from there? I say highly unlikely. A fighters recovery and damage tolerance can't always be relied on. Because those are fickle things that can fail at any given time. Many fighters recover fast, until they don't. Many fighters can take tremendous punishment, until they can't. Chuck Liddell was known for his iron chin, until he got knocked out. Robbie Lawler was looked at as a machine until Tyron Woodley shut him down in the first round. His recovery would then fail him again when Ben Askren choked him out. Hell, even Nate Diaz has been stopped before. And how much damage had we seen Alexander Volkanovski take in fights before he was ko'd recently? Of all the people shouting that the stoppage was too early, the only one whose word I take is Jiri's. He knows himself better than anyone else.
