Snake's voice is still at its best. This song reminds me a lot the recent sounds of Target Earth. I still miss the old War and Pain sounds, those were great but they're always evolving themselves and that's awesome. Even if they have changed that much, they're still making great music. My fav bands for 6 years, so proud of it.
Tie together this old waste Flight cases and rolls of tape Connecting, returning home Chewing cups of styrofoam Template for shocking news Terminal of awful blues Moving lips, but there’s no sound Final call, and now you’re gone So far, mind blowing far So hard, heart breaking hard So hard, forced to understand A whole world has reached its end I’m fastened to reality A boarding pass for eternity In the desert lives a burning man There’s a probe about to land All my thoughts are taking off Above the clouds, where I get lost So far, mind blowing far So hard, heart breaking hard Sadness fumes Fuel perfume Mind excused Soul exhumed Spiral down Swirl around Without sound Leave the ground Fly forever Reach the never Life’s not over Be remembered We just keep on traveling Is it worth giving… So much in the after? Opeth?Mastodon? WHERE? this song sounds 100% voivod! chewy is workin' very well. all i can say about this song is that i can feel the legacy of piggy from War and Pain to Phobos included. they say "no one can replace Piggy"? well i say "chewy did it."
This band has never compromised their musical appetite, nor their musical direction. They've always done what they want to do, and their evolvement is prevalent in their progressive masterpieces. R.I.P. "Piggy"!
Groove-tacular and Groove-tastic, Groove-a-licious and Groove-jiggly, and Buttgroovey, asstastic and keister high science, shake that you, booty-groovey-heinie-magic.
Stunning. If it's Rocky on bass, I give kudos for maintaining the Blacky Blower Bass sound. It's a part of the Voivod legacy along with Chewy's amazing fusing of Piggy's trademark stylings. Long live Piggy and Voivod (and all the best to Blacky, great artist and Iron Gang father)
The vibe of music/bands changes over the years. I mostly grew up with 90`s/early 00`s heavy rock and metal. Voivod has more of an oldschool vibe so i had to get used to them, now i love them. I am pretty sure there is still great new bands, i just have to discover them and get used to the sound.
No one could wear Piggy's shoes better than Dan Mongrain did. Since he is in the band Voivod are back playing what they were at the prime in the late 80s. No wonder bands like Virus and Enslaved have Voivod as one of their influence. These guys were pioneers and invented avant garde metal way before its time
Just a few minutes ago I found out about this EP, strangely enough I had just put 'Killing Technology' into my CD player, and the first lyric delivered by that timeless robotic voice eerily matched up with this; WE ARE CONNECTED. WE ARE CONNECTEEED.
They played a little venue in ft Collins Colorado like it was freaking Madison Square, I already loved them, but seeing them play their f-ing asses off in that little bar made me a lifetime fan. They took time and high fived and autographed stuff, it was awesome. Voivod will always be on my very short list of favorites.
Fucking speechless after hearing this song. Oh, and blind too...but it is worth it. I must have played this about 20+ times already since Friday. It sounds as though its a sort of sequel to Killing Tech? Away said they are going to be in Prog-mode on the new album, and Im glad to hear that. Listen, I appreciate their thrash roots, just as much as the next person, but this style is what this band does best, and wouldnt ever want them to completely go back to playing pure thrash. Actually This band cant even be categorized. They play voivod music. Its a genre of its own.
Well... this is awesome. Book-ended by familiar (but still fresh-sounding) Voivod, the middle section goes all chillout for a couple of minutes. Really looking forward to them performing this (and their classics) at the Forum on 29th Oct.
Look, I think we all agree, the WORLD NEEDS VOIVOD. In fact THE UNIVERSE NEEDS VOIVOD. Ok, so what we do is, we convince the band that whenever a member leaves or dies, they are replaced by younger talents (as we've seen). This system should be maintained for the lifetime of the universe (or the lifetime of any greater universe resulting from a merger with our own universe, or any other universes including our own), so that no sentient being is without at least the chance (however remote) of hearing a Voivod song, wherever, or whenever they are in time and space.
When the day comes that voivod stops making music would truely be one of the sadddest day of my life..Their music just seems to hit me so hard, almost as if ive heard it before and forgot about it in another life, but no, their music is for me.
This is very good, love how the song builds up. The new guitarist, while not Piggy, is bringing his own thing which I very much like! Is this available for sale already (not the split/the full CD)? I'm getting it, which is no surprise since I own every Voivod album :)
Finally, Voivod are back to doing what they do best! The Voivod thing! Glad about the sound too. (Target Earth was hopelessly trashed by the sound which was too sloppy, muddy and incoherent for this type of rock.)
The opening riffs sound closer to traditional heavy metal in terms of shape and the dissonant/"weird" aspect of their sound feels a bit downplayed (even at the 1:59 break it doesn't really feel as full on otherworldly as with their classic material or even the last album). Then it starts to trip out afterwards in a good way. I like this, seems like they're prioritizing more elongated compositions now with more ambiguous structure. Let's see if Mongrain can land a second home run with them. Title seems to be a reference to a robotic voice clip from "Killing Technology".
To be fair, Voivod had straight forward thrashy riffs on Killing Technology and even on Dimension Hatross. Chaosmongers and Technocratic Manipulators have a few riffs that are more straight ahead 'speed metal' for lack of a better term, than anything in this song. The rest of the songs obviously go off in other directions, but the first few riffs are very weird and Voivod, and has the same techniques they've always used. Dissonant double stops on the higher strings, playing augmented/diminished arpeggios with an ascending bass line, shifting a riff or melodic pattern to higher strings, etc. Not to nerd out but those riffs are pure Voivod through and through. I like it. It sounds like a fresh statement from Dan, as opposed to Target Earth which was a best of Voivod. I mean that in a good way, it's easily my most played album in the past few years.
Tyler Reynolds Oh yeah well KT was in essence a transition album from their rawer, punkier days to the weirder prog ones. I'd say on "Dimension Hatross" is when they started focusing less so the precision punchy rhythm playing on thrash (even if it does pop up on occasion) and more on spacey, jangly riffs and chord voicings that so many bands have picked up on now. I think the reason why they've bounced back so much better than 90% of all oldfart bands is due to Dan Mongrain having already been shown to be very capable in Martyr and a huge Voivod fan (which also showed in Martyr) with a distinct style that was like an improved Schuldiner IMO.
Dan is like Chuck meets Piggy meets, umm... many other great guitarists. I don't know, what I do know is that his work with Voivod is amazing. He is a worthy successor of Piggy, and I'm sure Piggy himself would be proud if he could hear Target Earth.
Loving the new voivod. lots like the old voivod. which I loved!please do not continue with the prog noodle breakdowns like at 4:07However, the noise-funk it turns into is quite nice :)
This definitely sounds like mastodon but having known voivod is older I assume mastodon are ripping voivod off. I regret not listening to voivod earlier.
New Voivod? Holy tits I can't believe my ears I was worried since Blacky left again they wouldn't release anything but BAM new song, and it kicks major ass! More Target Earthy type shit. Just continuing their sound, but still it's an EP release with napalm death right then the new album might sound different. Who really knows with Voivod lol.
This should have been what came out after Nothingface instead of Angel Rat and Outer Limits.. Voivod is my favorite band but they were broken for a very long time. Mongrain seems to be taking them right where they needed to go. Blacky being back is also helping their sound. This is so easy to listen to, smooth, and dynamic. I really hope they keep heading down this road... it is the one they need to be on. In no way am I trying to put down Piggy or his guitar work, PLEASE don't read this comment in that light.
BDaMonkey Well... that sucks again. I really haven't been following too closely. With or without Blacky, this is a refreshing place for Voivod... I am happy to hear them sound this refined.
9 years later now, and they're still making this awesome new stuff with Dan. I can't get enough, sometimes. I had pretty much given up hope that I would hear this kind of Voivod during the Jason era. Not to put those albums down, but you know exactly what I mean. But their last three albums are more than I could have ever hoped for. Dan knows how Voivod should sound. His back up vocal harmonies are amazing too. He is a genius.
never listened to opeth and Mastodon? Ok... but boring to me.... Im more into HC Punk ;-) But in love with voivod since war and pain. Amazing, iconic band! Legends... Masto who???

Are they still your fave band? They've been my fave band for almost 30 years now.
Tie together this old waste
Flight cases and rolls of tape
Connecting, returning home
Chewing cups of styrofoam
Template for shocking news
Terminal of awful blues
Moving lips, but there’s no sound
Final call, and now you’re gone
So far, mind blowing far
So hard, heart breaking hard
So hard, forced to understand
A whole world has reached its end
I’m fastened to reality
A boarding pass for eternity
In the desert lives a burning man
There’s a probe about to land
All my thoughts are taking off
Above the clouds, where I get lost
So far, mind blowing far
So hard, heart breaking hard
Sadness fumes
Fuel perfume
Mind excused
Soul exhumed
Spiral down
Swirl around
Without sound
Leave the ground
Fly forever
Reach the never
Life’s not over
Be remembered
We just keep on traveling Is it worth giving… So much in the after? So much on the future? We are made for riding Is it worth saving… So much to carry on? Too much for never more! …Never more!
There’s no real destination In no time, it’s a new horizon
The chemtrails across the sky
Are guiding us all through the night
At the counter of lost and found
Touch the ground, deep and profound
We have a friend, he passed away
We’ll meet you there, we’ll go one day
So far, mind blowing far So hard, heart breaking hard
We've always been connected with Voivod
Excellent song, as expected of the lords of progressive thrash. Long live Voivod.
VOIVOD ARE GENIOUSES VOIVOD ARE HISTORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow this was a real trip!!! Mongrain truly is channelling the soul of piggy through his guitar.
+ScamboogeryFunk I say so to, an actually I think he is a better lead player personally, his lead to this tune
fit the eerie chords like a glove
Yesssssss! Pinch it, Chewey! Transport us! Connected, all!!! ❤️ 😂 😂
This band has never compromised their musical appetite, nor their musical direction. They've always done what they want to do, and their evolvement is prevalent in their progressive masterpieces.
R.I.P. "Piggy"!
I love the production, there's so much space, it's like the opposite to most modern metal production
it's like taking what's good from modern metal and throw the "what makes modern metal generic" out of the equation
I love the groove. Voivod always had a groove.
Totally agree. Being superb musicians is not necessarily sufficient. Best also having a groove to give the music life.
Groove-tacular and Groove-tastic, Groove-a-licious and Groove-jiggly, and Buttgroovey, asstastic and keister high science, shake that you, booty-groovey-heinie-magic.

"This is Dimension Hatröss/Phobos/Nothingface style Voivod. Yes! Keep it coming!"
-- Iron Gang
This is great stuff. The band has definitely not lost what it was that made them fucking awesome.
Ride That Voi Vod Train, Baby...
We are connected. Piggy lives forever. Morgoth Land, Up!!!
If I had siblings I think I would love them almost as much as I love these guys
This song is strangely addictive.
да))
гипноз)
Progressive and weird, just as expected from Voivod. Loving this, I hope the entire album is this eerie and complex, it'd be awesome.
Between Opeth and Mastodon, my balls, This is pure classic Voivod sound. :)
This is Voivod gone even more progressive and weird than before, I loved it.
Voivod rules, they are one of my favorite bands, but BTBAM, Opeth and Mastodon are great bands also.
Richard Mistontli Opeth and Mastodon attended by Voivod!
Wow! I really hope their new recordings move in this direction, and flesh out this more stripped down, psychedelic framework. Amazing.
i think is very difficult to find good music from these recent years, Voivod still making great music.
There are ton of a great music if you know what you're looking for.
Voivod is still making awesome music but there's lots of great bands around nowadays, man. These are great times for music.
+d3frost Vektor is great Voivod like band
The vibe of music/bands changes over the years.
I mostly grew up with 90`s/early 00`s heavy rock and metal.
Voivod has more of an oldschool vibe so i had to get used to them, now i love them.

I Think Daniel Mongrain Is Genius
I met him... He really IS a Fuggin GENIUS, and also quite a really nice guy... Just like you.
Just a few minutes ago I found out about this EP, strangely enough I had just put 'Killing Technology' into my CD player, and the first lyric delivered by that timeless robotic voice eerily matched up with this; WE ARE CONNECTED. WE ARE CONNECTEEED.
They are THE band.

They took time and high fived and autographed stuff, it was awesome. Voivod will always be on my very short list of favorites.
Saw them in '89 They were untouchable Best metal show I ever saw Litteraly fucking crazy mind-blowing
One of the best things they've done. It's that good.
I'm really impressed! If they entire album is as good as this that should be an instant classic!
Fucking speechless after hearing this song. Oh, and blind too...but it is worth it. I must have played this about 20+ times already since Friday. Classic, mid era and more recent Voivod...all wrapped up in this awesome new song!! Can't wait to see Voivod this weekend!! Hail Voivod!!!
Voivod in a league of it's own as usual
Such a great band !!
Listen to this, Meshuggah, and learn that writing actual music is a lot more fun than just rhythm excersises.
Marmeloid i agree meshuggah have some real technical stuff which can be cool but sonically boring and i find jens vocals one dimensional
Well... this is awesome. Book-ended by familiar (but still fresh-sounding) Voivod, the middle section goes all chillout for a couple of minutes. Really looking forward to them performing this (and their classics) at the Forum on 29th Oct.
I love this sound that only Voivod can do! Very Nice
"There's no real destination"
The journey is the destination.
It's the matter of perspective,right?
mattbrn No!
IDK.
Maybe?
Yes :)
👀
The destination is your ultimate form
Un bon et nouveau morceau!!, de nos champion poids lourds du mouvement Metal au Québec!!
Solo at 3:58 is wonderful. Give it a few plays and enjoy!

This is the most complex Voivod song since Jack Luminous, I reckon. It sounds really awesome.
at 3:55 you can listen to the words "WE ARE CONNECTED" from killing technology record. :D
To be fair, Voivod had straight forward thrashy riffs on Killing Technology and even on Dimension Hatross. You're crap you suck
Matt Shea well you listen to mastodon, so.... yeah :D
This definitely sounds like mastodon but having known voivod is older I assume mastodon are ripping voivod off. I regret not listening to voivod earlier.
I hear some Virus and Martyr as well, good thing!
What software was used for the graphics?
+liquidsounddestructi LSD
OMG THIS FUCKING ROCKS!!!!
holy fuck the solo is fucking nice
i'm a diehard piggy fan and have resisted this new guy for a while, but yeah. he's rad as hell.

I hate to break it to you, but Blacky isn't in the band anymore. He left again last summer. I know, it's a shame.
BDaMonkey Well... that sucks again. I really haven't been following too closely. With or without Blacky, this is a refreshing place for Voivod... I am happy to hear them sound this refined.
Yeah, still sounds good, Dan Mongrain really was the perfect replacement for Piggy. I firmly believe that.
9 years later now, and they're still making this awesome new stuff with Dan. I can't get enough, sometimes. I had pretty much given up hope that I would hear this kind of Voivod during the Jason era.
