The bubbles actually give a really nice aesthetic touch.
Awesome stuff. It still amazes me with what you can do on the floor. Shows that good quality and design don't need expensive tools and a nice shop.
These came out really nice, great work on those molds! Thanks for choosing Smooth-On rubber!
These are by far the best concrete planters I've seen. And I happen to like your voice. 😂😂
Loving the silicone mold videos, Ben. These are really inspiring, makes me want to try my hand at these processes!
I'm LIVING for these planters!! 😍🤙🏼 great job!
Mold star is an expensive platinum silicone not specialized for concrete. If you are purchasing from smooth on have a look at their PMC or Vytaflex range which is abrasive resistance so will last longer (100 pulls from the posture mold as opposed to 20 odd from silicone Mold Star) and is specifically meant for casting concrete.
Awesome products and are a little cheaper.
Keep up the amazing content love yours and Jamie’s work! Truly inspiring.
Damian Skirde Great tip, thank you!
Nice
Damian Skirde i wanna to creat something but this mold star is too expensive for my buget ;( can you help me and tell me material similar but cheaper from vytaflex for creating a matrix that i will use many times. Thank you!
Very cool process. You did a wonderful job explaining it all and giving great tips. Thanks Ben!
Very neat idea. I like the repeatability of it with the concrete.
Stunning planters and nice video!
they look great. I really enjoy the podcast too. thanks for your content😀
Very cool! I like the shapes you ended up with.
This video is amazing. Perfect explanation! Thank you for this idea! Greetings from Argentina 😊
sooo nice as always! i have to try to use the molds in one of my projects! well done ben
I really like the way those look.
This is awesome I love all your projects you are very creative !
Wow. What a great idea!
Hey Ben, those turned out great! Also hi Jaime! Cool to see that y'all are growing a team :D excited to see what that means for the future. I liked the tip about the wax on rough surface, and the sanding timelapse was super satisfying with the clouds moving. What are you going to do with all those concrete planters?
Funny how I see your comment here after having just watched your video :)
same here, their plant pot one too?
Lenny same !
Omg I just watch self watering plant!!
How long untill molds tear
O those clouds are so pretty
Wow, these look really good Ben, I like the fact that there is nothing that a simple sandpaper cannot do. And those bubbles look cool :)
it's beautiful with bubbles
It takes a special kind of artist to be able to do something like this. This takes a combination of talents so I applaud you 👌🏻
This is coming from an artist myself :) great work
Awesome project !
Great design!
I love these!
This is super cool. 😍♥️
Beautiful!
I'm a huge fan of your videos! An idea for a future project: a modern mailbox. I've scoured the internet and can't find one that I like that has detailed instructions. I feel like you guys should take this on!! Thanks!!
Wow. Adorable!!
I think I'm gonna try this
I love these
You should try to fill the bubbles with the kintsugi technique.
I second that Idea, it would look like stars! Amazing idea
or this glowing resin effect www.thisiscolossal.com/2014/08/diy-glowing-inlaid-resin-shelves-by-mat-brown/
Thats so cool
Hey great video. I never thought about using wax for areas like that. But just to throw an idea out there: silicon mold material is great, and totally necessary for super smooth surfaces but like you said it's pricey. One thing I figured out is that you can brush on your silicone to your positive and than back it with plaster. The plaster won't bend like the silicon keeping your cast straight, not to mention it's considerably cheaper than silicon. Also Smooth-On makes a great super dense mold material called vita-flex which can withstand the weight of concrete!
Then how do you get the cast out of the mold? Do you break the plaster?
First! They look really good! :)
Great video
Awesome! I am going to crete some of these this weekend. I am planning on creteing my molds with MDF on a CNC machine... I think I will use your melted wax tip so the liquid doesn't ruin the mold/stick. We will see how this goes... and yes I know how to spell create.
So cool!
this is amazingggggg
stunning
These are great... 🤓👍
I ador everything you do genius 👍👍👍👍💖😍
I love the Wood version
Is it just me who watches these videos but doesn't do it bc it's a lot of work? XD
💯th comment :D
Awesome!
I would suggest keeping the wooden forms from the original mold making process to place the mold back into when filling. This is particularly good for the larger molds and stop the flexing issue as you learned.
i like diys where its like go to the dollar store and this and ur done
Thank you.
Go sell them om etsy, I'm sure it'll sell good. I would definatelly buy them. Love your stuff man, keep it up
Suggestion. Can you make a vibrating base, something you can use to vibrate all your producttions?
I am sure someone has said this but I just wanna point out. That drainage holes are very important in all pots and especially small ones like what you've done here. Even more so since you are using plants that love to be dry between watering. Of course these planters can and will work but you've increased the difficulty of maintaining the plants by not having drainage built in.
yes but for succulents i have found that i don't need them as long as i don't over water.
Your stuff is so fucking amazing, seriously I'm jealous.
This guy lives, eats, sleep, lift concrete
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
you should put spider plants in them and put them on a shelf and watch them grow down in in that awesome way spider plants do.
*Good job*
very nice thank you
How thin can you get the Countertop White Mix? Could you cast it to 1/2" thick without compromising the strength?
What if you put a single layer of smooth/rounded 1/2" river rock in the bottom of those molds before pouring in the concrete? Might make a cool feature on the top of the final product.
D Y I N G
you do great work! keep it up! please tell me, where do you get the quikrete in white??? i've searched several bigbox stores and i can't find it. please share. thanks!
You really should use some oily release agents to extend the life of your mould. If using you could do more than 200-300 pourings :) Greetings from Berlin!
loooooooooove it
WOW!
Loving the form of those planters. Hey, did you have a "coat" of something like "grease" in the pieces after they cured?
I did a couple of concrete pieces and have this coat of something on them, I had to clean them with solvents because it wouldn't come off with water or soap :(
that would be cool to make these with concrete and glass terrazzo
It would be really cool if you made a concrete water fountain
Hey there, another cool project. Question how come you've never taken the time time to build a COOL work bench, my own back aches when i see you working on the floor, especially when doing just quick cuts with the miter saw.
Did you put any covering to the concrete before putting the plants?
It would be very easy to set up a small vacuum chamber with Lucite and a small pump, would eliminate your bubble problem entirely.
If you let the sides of the mold star flex out would it get a cool warped look?
great! i dont have any of those machines
To make tiny ones, use a potato.
Does somebody know an alternative for concrete?
I'm living in Germany where the products are not available.
Do you have a video on the table shown at the end of this video?
Sooo... how many batches did you finally got from those molds?
air bubble holes, paint it, sand it back :D coloured holes.
cool~
Show us how to make large ones!!
have you ever tried tinting the concrete with some pigment or food colorant?
MrJayemes some of the mixer trucks in my area have "Techni-color" written on the side, so it has been done. Wouldn't mind seeing some here.
When do you all get a dedicated work bench? ;)
Where can I find the quickrete countertop mix in white?
I like how you used a shamoji to stir your concrete lol
2 things, planters need some holes for draining extra water. And when you say 2x6 are you talking about inches? Besides that, excelent video, thumbs up
O.K i'm back again. How do I get you guys to do a bed on a nice modern Murphy bed like the ones made in Italy but with the ridicoulous price tag.!!!
The more I watch this video's about concrete I start support the theory that pyramids or Stonehenge was cast out of concrete.
Oh my god this is so fucking beautiful . 😍😍😍😍
Can you use hypertufa in these molds
Welcome Jamie! Isn't Jamie the girl that's helped you for years now? I think you said she's your sister?
cool! :)
I'm poor but looks awesome
how to make geometric concrete planters
step 1 wood
Hello good video
Hi! Can you write some info about the molds? are they still alive? How much planters did they made? :)
What about drainage?
How many batches we can get from 1 mold?!
I did it, I've finished watching aaaaaaaaall of your videos. Conclusion: your ideas are concrete. Oof.
Do you use any sealer to seal the pots?
i didnt for these but wax works well if you don't want to use concrete sealers for toxicity reasons
Interesting! I will try that :) Thank you!
Where can i get the melamine??
What if i dont have industrial machinery?
Who watches this but never dies them 😂
