  • It's time for a longish term review of the LEATT Airflex range of knee pads.
    These Knee pads by LEATT were designed for mountain bikers and are the light weight, light to medium duty knee pads that slip over the knee. They have small ventilation holes built into the rubbery pad to allow air to flow over the knee while riding your bike.

      POC 2.0. Great for when it’s not hot or you don’t have to pedal, hence shuttle or lift days. On normal rides, forget about it.

      Your 5TEN shirt is dope bro👌✊
      I don't use knee pads much anymore but when I do, I use the G- Form Knee/ shin guard combo. They are light but tend to slide.

      Thanks my bru, yeah I've also cut down on the knee pad wearing around my local trails, unless I know I'm going to push the limits. That's the problem with this sock style ones, the slip when you least want them to

    • @antiherobc
      @antiherobc  Před 5 lety

      yeah, I also have POC, they are fantastic. A bit heavy but the protection and quality is far beyond a lot of other brands

    I've had the pro version of this knee pad for 2 season now and i LOVE them! They're comfy, they've protected me through several crashes. I ride more enduro style, so I usually don't put them on while I climb but if I do several laps I don't take them off after I've put them on because they aren't that bad to climb in. They never shift on me during crashes, I think the extra padding on the top and sides makes a big difference with that. I've had a couple of stitches form crashes and my knees have always been fine (I think I'm finally gonna buy some elbow pads). My only potential complaint is that the holes get super dirty and are hard to clean (if you care about that sort of thing, which I don't really).

      I've had 3 different pairs of LEATT Knee Pads and they are all disintegrating 😔

      3 seasons of enduro racing now on my airflex pros. Probably could go more heavy duty for dh or park laps but not If there's any pedalling involved. They have a couple of tears in the fabric but they still stay where I want them all day. I'll buy another pair when these are dead.

    Totally disagree, I've finally worn out my airflex pro's after maybe 6 years. Totally worth it... Yes they stretched a bit, but never had issues with them moving out of the way in a crash. Never got that loose? What wore out on mine is just that where I "pull them on", from the sides of the fabric they finally started ripping. They still work even with a tiny rip. But time for a new pair! Replacing them with a new pair of the same thing.

    I'm using 661 Recon knee pads, and they've been great. Over a year in, the elastic is still working well, and they've held up great against a few falls, pedal pin attacks, and thorns. They're light, breathable, comfortable, and I definitely recommend them.

  • @mtbboy1993

    definitely good ventilation, good spacing not too big holes not too small, good. I wear Poc Joint DH VPD 2.0 they were sweaty, it got venting holes, but I only feel it if the wind is blowing so hard have to use my body weight to keep my bike going straight. the holes are bigger, but there are not as closely spaced.

  • @MountainBiking_Bulgaria

    I am using simillar pads from 661- recon 1 season after - they are still tight fit - thank god haven't got the chance to test how they perform in a big crash on the trails.
    all in all if you get your size - correct they seems to be doing what you've payed for.

    On the other hand, LEATT 3DF's are great if you have large calves and thighs, not many products come with true 2xl for us thick boi's. Had some pretty hard hits that felt like nothing, but yeah the mesh does get ripped easy, normally from a pedal pin but still usable close to a year on.

    • @antiherobc
      @antiherobc  Před 5 lety

      for sure, I agree, the 3df offer's good impact resistance, they just brittle, stretched out quickly and looked bad when I had them.

    I guess it would be possible to repair the pads with some proper materials, and modify them to fit better, but not a great selling point, SO far I ahven't found anything that beats Poc's padding when it comes to coverage, and and thickness, but it compromises on cooling.
    but something with holes like Leattt in similar spacing, coverage and thickness of Poc pads, and Velcro straps, and as easy to repair as Poc are, I got them repaired several times, cus I ripped holes in ,from when my hip makes my foot go off the pedal tearing the back side of the pads, also stitching wore too, due to pedals and crashes, but easily fixed.

      I have been using POC VPD's for a few years and they offer fantastic protection, the quality is also really good. Downside is that they are expensive, pretty heavy, and they are rigid when they are cold, need to warm up on your legs before they soften up.
