Story Behind the Song/Video:
I love our national anthem, both the music and the lyrics. With this instrumental arrangement, I wanted to perform the music in such a way that retained the original theme and feel, yet conveyed the deep emotional dynamic that is expressed through the lyrics. This video and the music are dedicated to the memory of all those who have served, and given their lives in combat, that we might live in freedom.
With the video, the concept was to place a piano in several picturesque locations, as a reminder of the land we can enjoy in freedom because of those who fought for it on our behalf. The scene at the war memorial was included to remind people how many small towns lost sons, brothers, husbands and fathers during the war. It also portrays the importance of parents passing on the legacy of these soldiers to their children, that their names, and their service would not be forgotten.
The video was made on an extremely low budget, consisting mostly of renting a truck for 2 days and feeding our small crew. It wouldn’t have been possible to produce this video without the generous help and support of some very special people, and also several locals from our home town of Leeston.
Special thanks goes to my children, and in particular my beautiful wife Becky. Without her love, support and dedication to being the best wife and mother a man could ask for, I really wouldn’t achieve much at all.
I also want to thank my good friend Ash McKenzie. His skills in cinematography, editing and all things film are a rich blessing, all wrapped up in a servant-hearted, Christ-focused attitude that makes it a pleasure to work with him.

French by birth, I have lived in New Zealand for over six years, first in Dunedin and now in Wanaka, watching this video I immediately recognized the landscapes that are close to where I live. But it is especially on your music or the interpretation on the piano that you made of the New Zealand hymn that I felt connected to this country even more than I had been. This interpretation on the piano is worth more than a mass, it is especially for me who also practice the piano to be transported in thoughts in this country in this culture for which I feel a deep respect. Your beautiful Nations, full of rich abundant natural resources, are empty of soul. The Nations of Australia and New Zealand are lush, on the one hand, because of the Gift My Father has bequeathed you, and on the other, they are barren.
