- I am finally back after a short hiatus - join me as I return to my home to cook a delicious white bean stew. I'll also be painting my dining table, as well as sharing my new artwork that I commissioned from my friend, Jonathan Freemantle. My husband had a furniture refinishing business for 15+ years where people brought him their painted "mistakes" and would strip down the furniture with hard chemicals, fix and sand them, and then repaint with this big airbrush system. This chalk paint is a game changer! Plus kinda love the fact that the green paint is under the gray. Also, thanks for up-cycling! So many people just throw out furniture instead of working with it, it's a great table. The painting is amazing, so modern!

I have never understood modern art and as a florist, gardener, and Japanese Ikebana artist, I completely understand the color green, but not within the abstract form of modern art. Absolutely love the fern, as that evokes many feelings within its context. Repainting the table really lets the fern stand out. Great job.
modern art has to speak to you! It is very powerful with the emotions it can pull from your soul.
In this case you see the soul of the Green Man.
I just posted a comment above where I really think that the entire Palace of Versailles should be painted over with modern art. The murals and paintings on the ceiling and walls are too heavy. They don't speak to anyone. We need modern artist to redo the entire Palace so that it evokes emotion.
In this painting I see the intensity at the way the paint was brushed against the canvas. There is something so spiritual about it. I believe the reason modern art is not appreciated as much is because folk don't take the time to stare at the paintings for at a minimum of 45mins and allow the painting to speak to you. For each person it is different that is why it is so special! After 45mins one can get past the brushstrokes and color to the essence of the painting. I am guarantee folk that if they would just stare of the painting continuously for 45 minutes, that by the 46min they will fall in love with it. Remember these one of a kind, they cannot be reproduced. And some folks may need a little extra to free their mood to feel the painting. 26:42
That's because there is no understanding it. It's garbage. They know it. We know it. But no one says it out loud. But the emperor has no clothes!
Your home is so lovely. Adding this vibrant painting to your room adds an element or energy that was not there before. But it is also balanced by all of your neutral furnishings. Nicolas, thank you for another relaxing and enjoyable video. Your final words said it all. "Home is just being. Be yourself and enjoy your space." I was impressed with how you worked around the results of a finished product that didn't turn out as you expected. You do encourage us to take risks, like painting a table a new color, but you were honest about your mistake and found a way to go around it. You pulled in so many of my favorite things about you into this one video (too many to list in the comments!).
Over the past year you've achieved the updated look that, as you said back then, would better reflect who you are now. Compare 23:07 through 23:16 in that corner area, to a last year's video "Preparing for the Festive Season..." starting at 6:01 from last year. They show that you're accomplishing just what you said you wanted.
Jonathan's incredible painting is a forever piece, be it in that corner or wherever life takes you. Also on display are all the right decisions and tweeks along the walls and fireplace. I remember the times here and there where you tried something and then changed your mind. Sometimes you even ask our opinion.
Anyway, welcome back home!

Nicolas, I see negative remarks on your new painting. I remember you saying you were going to change up you place and evolve your style. Good for you. You are young and it is good to express yourself on your own terms. I like the mix of modern and vintage and English style. That is what I have done. I think if you want you could put your lamp to the left of the picture and it would look beautiful. All the best to your new design ideas. I love the fact that you painted the tabletop grey. I think grey is one of those colors that will never go out of style because you can match it with I believe most colors. But I'm no paint expert. 😊

So much better, Nicolas. The previous color was a shiny warm green. Matt goes so much better with your decor and is so much more calming. The painting fits right in, with its matt, cool forrest and moss greens with the greyish white background. Well done to you and Jonathan.

I'm charmed by Jonathan.
Nicolas has an eye for using the right earthy tone colours intermixed with a bright pop of colour here and there to not make an interior look boring or blah. I quite agree with him that the green colour for the table surface was the wrong choice. It was too overpowering and if I were sitting at the table,I feel that the green would have been a distraction. I like what the finished look and final transformation that he chose instead.
