- Valentine gives a comprehensive look at the adoption of Houdini by Tech Art while working on Sea of Thieves.
"Although we only began to learn and apply Houdini mid-way through production, it proved an invaluable tool in the Tech Art toolbelt. This talk explores the deepening link in our workflow between shader development and Houdini tooling with detailed breakdowns of specific use-cases, including lightning strikes, kraken tentacles, vomit and clouds." - Hry
I wish there were more videos like this. Super informative and interesting to see problems dev studios encounter while working on a game.
Dude..... the more I learn about houdini the more I'm amazed by this talk.
this guy is such a fantastic blend between art and tech.. really cool, solid stuff.
this is amazingly informative, thank you. I wish I could work with houdini right now, but I have to set time aside to learn it
this is awesome. Please do more contents like this! :DD
Very slow start but gets to the 'good' stuff half-way through the lightning! Great presentation!
No clue why youtube recommended this to me, don't even have Houdini. And as a matter of fact, the name is quite fitting, i it is indeed magic, I didn't understand one single thing...
@Jase Milan you're right! Noone cares at all and in case this is true, which certainly isn't, you don't deserve a girlfriend at all. Get a real job.
I did not think that the vomit was going to be interesting, great vid :)
Houdini is an such powerful tool, and i wish in future we could watch more tutorials to learn how to do these generators and amazing effects. Actually i only use blender and s. painter, cuz there are many tutorials to learn with, but i cant get same result as houdini shows
We wish we could do stuff like that.
So with the clouds, how do we check to see if a given position is inside the current vertex's occlusion lobe? I'd love to see that shader code!
this is really clever. actually makes me want to pick up houdini again
Kel T again? Why you gave up son?
because learning Houdini feels very overwhelming. From what I can tell simple task requires a lot of setup. I come from a maya background. Currently Learning Modo as well. @@DirkKool
Go for Houdini, it's the future.
@@EnriquePage91 Not the future for all things one exemple, for making a 3d unique complex asset
is not the future lol
Sooo cool!
Could you share the replaced sample function for the approximate dir light? 41:39
0:12 I need this jumper! 26:40 damn those are nice clouds 59:15 ha! true
These guys rocket!
That jacket is soooooo epic!!!! I love it, I want one.
I hope that's sarcasm.
I hope not, because I want this jacket, too :D @@tzlawina
@@budgiesenpai6894 Are you a girl? It looks like something my hip grandma would wear.
@@tzlawina Are you not a fan of shaders? Those are clearly vertices and edges if you didn't notice yo.
@@tzlawina well, it looks like I am a 26yo hip grandpa now.
whoot whoot
That's nice but how did you make the water ?
Pre-Microsoft Rare was such an amazing time for the company imo.
30:06 NOICE
How did you generate the compiled wetmap?
any tutorial about how to create the SDF in houdini?
use vdbfrompolygon
That Voronoi diagram Jacket...godamn..I love it..
I think you need to look up how voronoi pattern looks like..
@@jerrynovotnik Delaunay triangulation?
@@Dude707LoL Yep thats basically it ;) Delaunay pattern on this particular set of points or on randomly scattered but with some relaxation/optimization to have all triangles almost the same area. Anything in the realm of triangulated/tessalated mesh is correct.
obviously made in marvelous designer
@@bendosage3445 Houdini, actually! Stitched together in Vellum :) Triangulation achieved via remesh node applied on top after simulation.
TIMESTAMPS?
Instead of gameplay... I don't know, I think it is overkill. I thought that NVidia Flex is ok for fluids.
It looks good but it's quite difficult to mix with non particle based physics.
@@phototron3333 I even can't buy it. I thought it will be on PC (
@@dadlord689 what would? Sea of Thieves?
yes!@@phototron3333
@@dadlord689 it's on the windows store isn't it?
Water.
Nobody plays this game, why are they still modifying it? It doesn't need work, it's already dead.
agree
It's far from dead.
Well this is more about the software used than the game itself
I think you are on the wrong video
How do you know nobody is playing it?
