It is most common to see those balance shafts on an in-line four-cylinder gasoline engine. That is because such an engine is in primary balance but not in secondary balance. And this is a big problem at higher RPM where diesels usually do not go. Running such an engine at higher engine speeds without those shafts could definitely result in inside parts becoming outside parts. For a diesel engine it is less likely to become an issue as engine speeds are typically lower.

Given the boar and stroke of that engine; I would be careful to keep the RPMs below 3000 or maybe 3500 at most.

The engine balance shaft is simply over engineering. Or a purpose built in fail mechanism to generate money.

I removed the balance shaft belt from my 4d56t not that long ago as I couldn’t find the ticking issue within my engine, I’ve not noticed a difference in vibration or power with my engine, seems to drive exactly the same if I’m honest and I have a real paranoia for vibrating and sounds which must be solved

Dear ,I really appreciate your 4D56 videos and how you simply explain thing and mechanism of 4D,56 is exemplary .I own a MK1 1990 Pajero
, I am the first owner of this car it's running as good as it was when new , about the balancer it's not a good idea to run with out balancers because it tends to lots of wear and tear I have run this about 10 years back with out balancers for two years and after two years I have to remove the total engine, fortunately I have got the new engine and still keeping the old one for any spare parts that I will need in future.

I have two Delica L300s both with 4d56 engines one has no balancer shaft belt it sounds okay at idle but when I rev it past 3000rpm there is a vibration that causes the dashboard to buzz, in fact it scares me to rev past 2800rpm, though it does rev quicker, but in the Delica with a balancer belt it feels very smooth all the way to 4700rpm.

Dears I rebuilt my engine 4d56 8 valves turbo but I balance the crank with fly wheel and the crank dumper after I weighted the rods and pistons and all the related parts such as piston rings etc and made the final balance after load the rods and pistons weight on the crank and my engine reve to 5500 RPM + for sure after I port and polish the head and install over size valve a d double springs.. And I used electric power stearing to remove load from the crank.. And now after I watched this video I will delete the balancer and see what will happned. May be I will reve more quick and got more hp

Can diesel engine run without balancers? Because the balancer broke and shred the case what the balancer sits in. Everything in the engine is fine except tha balancer and the block where it sits in. I was thinking just welding the balancer hole in the block to cover it up.
I'm just wondering, if it is somewhat possible. This is just the old engine and i would love to see it running again
