- In 2009, the Central Michigan Chippewas traveled to East Lansing to take on the Michigan State Spartans in a game that wasn't expected to be too close. However, a surprisingly talented Central Michigan team led by star receiver Antonio Brown and quarterback Dan Lefevour had different plans in mind. Watch this 12 minute highlight video to relive this completely forgotten about game that in my opinion, is one of the most underrated college football upsets of the 2000s.

I think this game is right up there with the Notre Dame vs Tulsa game I posted a few weeks ago in terms of forgotten college football games. Not only was this a pretty big upset, but you had an Antonio Brown lead Central Michigan offense taking on a Kirk Cousins lead Michigan State offense. And on top of all this, this game also had a pretty exciting ending. I honestly can’t believe this game isn’t talked about more. Did you guys know about this game before seeing this video?
Edit: Oh yea, and Butch Jones was the head coach of Central Michigan.

Wow...Antonio Brown and Bryan Anderson...what a 1-2 punch!
I remember this game. This was a down year after a solid 2008 season for the Spartans. Even despite how this season would turn out, this upset still shocked us all. Still, the year wasn’t a total loss. We at least made a bowl game and we still beat Michigan, even though they turned out to be even worse.
One thing’s for certain though, this was a good Central Michigan team. Went 12-2, won the MAC, and finished ranked. Arguably the best team in the school’s history.

Everytime CMU beats up on MSU the first thing out is oh we had a down year lol. yeah they were down after the beat down . Central has gone into lansing and beat the brakes off State multiple years in a row before now ........ But hey I guess those were down years also lol

My immediate family is all CMU alums. When this game happened I was still in high school but a CMU fan anyways. My family didn't get ESPN2 so I've never actually watched it, but I still knew how big this was. Being able to see this now is really special. And hey, who knew the Mt. Pleasant Special debuted 8 years before the Philly special ever did?

for a Mac team? FYI CMU and the MAC are as good or better than many power five schools. its just some of you guys here only take notice after you saw where they whooped up on somebody yall liked . Go watch some games . we got NFL hall of famers , we got #1 picks , We got NFL highest paid to come from our universities and especially CMU. The only team Central Or MAC teams may not give a game to would be Bama which most of the teams you all follow would be in the same boat

His final year as a senior before going to NFL combine had a Fastest wide receiver sending to 2010 NFL draft 6th round 195th selection by Pittsburgh Steelers
Actually A.B. choose to forgo his senior year by entering the NFL Draft. He played 3 seasons with Central Michigan, as a freshman in 07, sophomore in 08, and junior in 09.

I used to pick this team in NCAA. thought Dan was going to be the best nfl qb ever tbh. I would upload my NCAA Dynasty save to Madden. Dan and the Louisville QB (Brian Brohm) would typically have good nfl careers. That one receiver for Central Michigan was small. Has lyke a 90 overall. Something like that. He would sometimes have a good Madden career. Crazy how Ab was that receiver and overlooked by so many. Even in games lol

Michigan dominated Penn State in every phase of the game statistically. It was like a Gaming PC against a Commodore 64. Besides two monster plays for the Nittany Lions, a quarterback keeper for 62 yards, and a ricochet interception off a player’s helmet for a pick-6 actually gave the visiting team a lead in a game they had no business leading.

I loved Brian Anderson. Always wondered what happened. Had an unconfirmed rumor from a CMU Life reporter that he was pretty banged up as he graduated.

As a Spartan this was not a fun game to watch haha, but at least we went on to beat Michigan that year
