- On this episode of Crazy Will Tech Show, I show you how to upgrade the Elegoo Mars step by step. Chitu Systems reached out to me to review their 6 inch mono LCD upgrade kit for ELEGOO Mars /Mars Pro. Which was great because I had planned on buying it, so gladly said yes please. It was a little bit of a process to get this up and running. Don’t worry, I show you how I installed the screen, updated the firmware and set up CHITUBOX for the Elegoo Mars upgrade. After I'm done, I’ll show you some of the prints I did with the new screen and tell you my overall thoughts. So let’s see if it worth upgrading your Elegoo Mars with Chitu Systems 6 inch mono LCD upgrade kit for ELEGOO Mars /Mars Pro.

I didn't come here because of the USB stick issue, but I started having the EXACT same issue TODAY! I have been printing endlessly, cleaning things, replaced the film, re levelled, changed settings... Now thanks to your video, I will try a different USB stick!
Didn't help. This is so bizarre because the last print I did a few weeks ago was fine, and this one it just started doing it suddenly. Even tried different resins.
Thank you for the video Will!
Thanks and thanks for watching.
Looks like a good and simple upgrade
It really was and breathe new life to my elegoo mars.
What can I say? I got the kit for €30 ($32) and within 10 minutes my Elegoo Mars became a Mars 2 PRO. The difference in speed feels a bit like installing new stepper drivers on the Anycubic Mega S and then turning it on and hearing... nothing.
Absolutely great, best regards from Germany
Yes it's amazing they let us do this. Great update for good machine that's kind of getting old.
Thanks a lot by your video!! I copy/paste the settings and save my prints today. :)
That’s awesome I’m glad I could help!
Crazy cool!
Reason why some are having issues and you dont is because your motherboard for the mars needs to be version c. Chitu shows this with photos. Hopfully they add a and b.
So I just installed mine on my elegoo mars but im habing trouble getting it to level correctly I believe.
So I am missing the smaller bracket that you sit on top of the adhesive. The manual says that you only need it for the Elegoo Mars 2. So after installing it without that piece i find that the LCD screen is not quite as firm and has some play in it when i push down in the screen.
I leveled the bed with the paper and then when i went to print I believe my z axis was bottoming out because it was humming and ciuld get the first layer down.
Im not quite sure what to do at this point but would love tonhear your thoughts!
I notice based on product images and your video, that this modification is higher than the original, and smaller than the a vat's footprint. Do you ever find any issue with this stretching the fep film, or getting the vat into place? Thank you for making this review video, as I just ordered the kit due to a dead zone on my original screen.
It’s a Little tighter you’ll have to adjust the bed or plunger. Didn’t seem to have an issue with fep. That stuff is pretty stretchy. Did notice it does lift the lid of the printer when it’s done because of the extra space. Other than that it’s really good. Thanks for watching!
Might have to do this to my old mars pro
It really wasn’t that bad to upgrade. Worth the speed.
very interesing
TL;DR - Had the same original film deposit problem. Reset the speed setting to the original Mars settings and reduced the bottom exposure time from 35s to 25s. Increased the exposure time from 2.5 to 3. Models seem to be printing fine using Elegoo water-washable clear green resin.
___
After several prints of calibration using the Siraya tech test model 2021 v5, I set the bottom lift speed, lifting speed, bottom retract speed, and retract speed to the original Elegoo mars parameters. The 2 pro uses different speed settings. I need to be more advanced to know if resetting these settings to the original Mars settings helped. After setting the bottom exposure time to 25s. And exposure time to 3s. The test model is coming out without the film issue. I went back to my original USB drive. Everything is printing correctly under the new exposure settings on the original drive that experienced the problem. The prints are nearly the same, possibly better than my initial test models on my old screen. However, I no longer have the old test models to compare. The .15 peg is mostly there, with the .15 hole shadowed. .2 peg and hole resolve fine. Some curved corners are in the larger cross holes on the test card.
Low humidity environment. Room temp. Using Elegoo water washable clear green for test prints. print time down to 55min from 1h39m.
I will be thrilled with the final results if the full actual prints keep up. The test model is not coming out tacky currently.
Final note: I was using a flex build plate. I found that the build plate was shimmying during the base layers, causing a series of slides. Removal of the flex plate solves the issue; a non-stick coating for the vat film could solve the problem. But I changed both parameters at the same time when troubleshooting.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!
It really is great upgrade. I’ve bin resin 3-D printing nonstop now. 😂
Hello. I'm planning to do this mod since my screen on original mars is dying. Did you have to readjust z axis? Or you just changed the firmware/settings on chiitu then leveled as normal? How I like to level is with the vat in, since it's the exact thickness and I can center it properly.
Didn’t have to change the Z axis. I use the manual to level the bed. AKA piece of paper 😂
Thx for the video. I did my upgrade on my OG Mars but now I get an error M20000 when I try to print a file. That is supposedly and error with the USB stick but I formatted and and tried a new stick and nothing works. Someone suggested I had the wrong firmware but Eleggo's site only has 1 option for firmware and there is only 2 files in there, the CBD file and the SH4. I have a type C motherboard. What firmware should I be using?
Chitubox has a great chat they help me to figure it out.
hi, is that board using the original one? or should be change to support the mono lcd?
Yes that's all the original components except for the LCD. You just have to update the drivers on both bored and LCD. Make sure your settings in chitubox are updated as well.
To be clear: This product upgrade is for the original Elegoo Mars correct?
Yes
I just made the modification and by spanking everything you say the test of the LCD screen did not work, I had to go and find the manufacturer's website where it asks to make a flash of the firmware and the LCD screen
Did it work after that?
@@CrazyWillTechShow yes
I have the same exact issue with the prints. It leaves a film on the build plate and I
ve tried with 3 different USB sticks and 2 of them are brand new
I would try change exposure. Either first buyers or over all. The first part was my problem.
@@CrazyWillTechShow I changed the exposure time, lowered by .5 sec and it hot better. However the upgraded firmware and using the Mars pro 2 settings gives me a .ctb extension for the files instead of the regular .cbddlp . Do you think it could be the source of the problem? I haven't done any research on that yet (in progress). BTW you're awesome and because of this video I made the upgrade. THX 'Mate
@@jankal8910 I don’t think that’s the problem because I use those files. But when you export you can change it to original file format. Really appreciate the support sorry you’re going through this.
@@CrazyWillTechShow Thank you for the tips. BTW I'd never thought that you'll answer, so thank you for that too. This IS fun, without challenges there is no improwements.
I answer everybody. If you’re gonna put content out there you have to back it up. 😁
How does this compare to the Mars 2?
I don’t have the elegoo Mars 2 but I would assume it’s about the same. As far as the screen.
@@CrazyWillTechShow Thanks!
Has anyone been unable to install the .cbd and .bin files? I recently picked up one of these kits to update my Mars 1 and have only been able to get the auto run file to work, the rest are declared "Unsupported File Type" by the printer. Running the type C motherboard for clarity
If you follow my video it should work.
If not if you go to the Chitu systems website you can live chat with someone there and they will walk you through it. They’re actually really good.
I ordered the same LCD... did the change including Firmware, now it is not working Unknown Format Error. Latest Elegoo Mars driver are for 1440x2560, and this LCD is 1620x2560. With Chitubox upgrade to 1.9.X how can we do cause all available firmware are 1440x2650 ? I should have mliss something
Do you have the elegoo Mars? You have to change the profile in chitubox as well. So it firmware update then lcd firmware update and change the printing profile in Chitubox.
@@CrazyWillTechShow I did but it seems that now my Elegoo Mars only accepts .cbd no more .cbddlt files. Also
I have like resin skins on the support platform and on models…. Weird
That happened to me too did you change the printing profile to the elegoo mars pro? The exposure time went down drastically. I’m not in front of my computer but I believe it was a two Second exposure. Another problem I ran into was the usb stick was too slow now. Changed it out and it all went away.
@@CrazyWillTechShow you mean that I need to look at the exposure time and raise it as before?
Yes I show that in the video. There’s a lot of settings you have to change.
