    I actually removed 11 of my 50 year old patio stones ( 24" x 30" and 80 lbs each ) that were worn down and flipped them upside down, cleaned them up, and turned them into a walkway farther back in my back yard. Even though they look 'old style' and a bit worn on the bottom, they still look pretty good and will be painting them soon.

    You could buy a wolf garten brush and handle. You can buy different wolf garten brush heads as well. There all quick release. I think wolf garten patio brush head would have been suitable for agitating the hypo into the black spots on the patio. There made in Germany.

    Cracking job pal, considering the bad access you did really well.
    For anyone doing this DIY, you can smooth the joints over with a cut off piece of hose pipe...it helps for water drain off.

    Just found your channel after looking for patio cleaning tips. I've got an Indian sandstone patio with plenty of black spots and it needs the joints repointing also. If I can get mine to look as good as the one you've done then I'll be very happy.

    That sika stuff is a very expensive way to point a patio lve used it a few times and lm not impressed,cement grit sand is best as is a compacted flush finish. Water sits in the grooved pointing , then frost will over time affect it. Maybe using a standard stiff broom/ hose with a simple cleaner would work just as well for fraction of the price. That black spot is hard to remove
    How is the sika presently?Maybe best not to pressure wash it?
    Well made vid.. well done mate , just my thoughts based on my experiences

    I was too old with a bad back to do mine so I employed a local guy to remove my old mortar and replace it, he used Sica and told me he was going to depth of 20mm. Charged me £800 and 12 months later weeds were pushing through - took a look at why and found out he'd only put it in to 10-12mm. I wasnt impressed.

    Excellent video! Do you have to remove ALL of the old grout or can you 'go over' some of it and sort of top it up?? I think I will have to use cement and sand as the gaps between my slabs are about 20mm. Thanks!

    turbo tip would of blown the sand and moss out the cracks way fast then by hand fyi. xjet faster for applying your sh chems soaps. but good job.

    • @SMOUT_
      @SMOUT_  Před rokem +3

      Turbo would have also made a horrible mess, I think doing it by hand was a lot more controlled in this case.
      Thanks, I would like an Xjet but it seems overpriced in my opinion so I'm kind of refusing to buy one at the minute

    • @thumper1747
      @thumper1747 Před 2 měsíci

      @@SMOUT_I bought an X-Jet, by the time I’ve readied it and the chemical mix, I would be half way through a manual application. Tip: I add a tiny amount of surfactant into the mix and this help lather up the hypo so it ‘hangs on’, aiding the cleaning process. Plastic inserts corrode too, so I’d stick to brushing, with or without the aid of a pump. Geoff

    • @SMOUT_
      @SMOUT_  Před rokem +1

    • @charliegardener2865
      @charliegardener2865 Před rokem

      @@SMOUT_ what way would you price for sealing also. thanks for the help

    • @SMOUT_
      @SMOUT_  Před rokem +2

      That's ok. I price sealing as follows:
      How long I think it's going to take (hourly rate) + cost of sealer (different surfaces = different sealers) + application type (will I need to buy some rollers & a tray or using my sprayer?) + How much sealer (they all have different coverage).
      It's a difficult question to answer because I don't have a formula yet. I should really sit down and work out a price psqm for sealing tarmac, block paving, natural stone etc...

    • @charliegardener2865
      @charliegardener2865 Před rokem

      Yeah I get you there is two many variables to take into consideration. Would that £10 per square Patio clean and regrout price include removal of the old grout.

    • @SMOUT_
      @SMOUT_  Před rokem +1

      Yes including removal. You might get lucky and find that it's nice and soft and can be scraped by hand, but always price for worst case scenario i.e needing a grinder. It's a huge difference in work.
      Most pressure washers avoid regrouting because it's such a soul destroying job 😂 start small to get an idea of time and effort

  • @missreddog
    @missreddog Před 4 měsíci +1

    Question: was the solvent you were using a cleaning solution or a paver sealer for like weather elements? Do you suggest spraying weed killer and bug killer in the joints before putting the new paver grout in? Or are these steps redundant.
