- We are harvesting potatoes from our experimental hugelculture mound and we are super surprised by the amount we got. We’re also harvesting our beets and carrots, checking on the pigs in their new forest paddock, and making chicken pinwheels for dinner.

I'm sure it's too late because I'm sure the video is days old. But next time you cut off the carrot tops, dehydrate them and use them almost like oregano or basil. Oh... and I have to share with Meg. I turned my Mom onto The Hollar Homestead years ago. She literally was enthralled with you guys. She even went back and watched every single video you made. She ordered some of your soap and was so tickled to death about it. Unfortunately, she passed last August. I've been cleaning out her house and today I found 2 of the 4 bars of soap she ordered from you. I'm now the proud owner of 2 bars of Bumblewood soap. I can't wait to try it. Love you guys!
I am so sorry your mom went home... I'm sure you miss her... But I am really happy that you found the gifts that she left for you... What a great find that was..!
I wondered about the carrot tops. I have seen people use them for making pesto. Think i will give that a try. Thanks for sharing.
I'm so sorry about your mom. Finding the soap is special. My mom died in December at 93. I hope you and your family are well.
May your Precious Mother R.I.P. 🙏✝️🙏
Carrot top pesto
Have you noticed??? Buggie is willing to share everything but the blackberries!!! 😘 😂🤣 😅
She even TOLD you they were hers! 😆
When your grocery store is in your backyard…life is good!
♥️👍😎
Ok. Dang it. I have rotted wood. I have room to dig a trench and I have 3/4 bag of potatoes that are growing in the bag. So I guess I know what I’m doing this afternoon ….😆
"I'm a farm girl"! Buggy you make this Grandma's heart sing, loved you're beautiful song too🥰
Loved this too❤
Oh my goodness she is a blessing for sure. She’s very smart also. This whole family has become mine as well. From one grandma to another 💕
I about fell out of my chair laughing when Buggy announced "These berries are MINE!" As the little sister to two older brothers, I totally relate to that statement hun!! 🤣🤣
Buggy is getting so tall! What a joy she is to watch with her daddy. You're all such a wonderful family, thanks for the glimpses into your days.
She does love her Daddy. Hope she knows to watch for snakes when she's out in the tall grass and weeds.
I don't know if its becoming a big sister, but Buggy suddenly is looking like a girl, not a toddler.
You and Buggie digging potatoes made me smile the whole time. I remember digging potatoes with my daddy. I remember the cool dirt under my feet after daddy plowed them. 😊♥️
Always enjoy little Buggie singing wherever she is, doing whatever makes her happy! Precious!
Never tire of your sweet family and in awe of how much work you’ve done! Meg is the perfect homesteading person, wife, and mama! 💕
Thanks for sharing your family life with us. Dad and kids working the land. Mom taking care of the little one and feeding her brood…the daily rhythms of life, the normalcy…it’s all such a breath of fresh air.
Absolutely 💥. 👵🏻👩🌾❣️
Meg is so cute! Seeing Ben holding that baby was so adorable. And buggy being his morning chore buddy is so cute. I can't even believe how big she's getting.
Oh and the boys are so helpful it's killing me! I'm going to die of adoration.
Cut those baby potatoes in half and can them with green beans. We love our green beans and potatoes!
It won’t be long until you have another sweet girl following you.
Ben, I love your relationship with Buggie. She is growing up at your feet, and she will look back at all this time spent together with great fondness. You are a blessed family. AND, FYI 24 pounds of organic fingerling potatoes on Azure right now are $70!! So great savings!
That’s a nice patch of veggies it would be so nice to go out and pick your supper. I think your a true farmer Ben. I can see how much you like to plant and grow your own food and Meg loves to cook. Perfect match.
Love your perspective, it's like a breath of fresh air in a sea of sameness.
It would make a fabulous video if you gave us your total numbers of what your meat , eggs , & produce has saved you for even just a year at the going prices. I bet it's several thousand dollars ! Cause we know Meg is all about those numbers !! Lol. Great video today .
Wow! When I started this there were 299 views and now it's over 1k! Y'all are loved!!
New potatoes and peas with a cream sauce. 😋
I love ALL The Hollar Homestead videos!
This year I have found the Coast of Maine soils and composts to be the best I've ever used. Have been so disappointed with the other brands which have turned out to be just bags of shredded wood that has not been composted or cleaned. Have lost many seedlings to crappy soil. So it was refreshing to see what's in Coast of Maine thriving.
💕💗💕🙏🙏🙏 Blessed with a great harvest of potatoes, beets, and carrots. Blessed with a beautiful family. Blessed with a delicious supper. What more could one ask for. Thank The Lord Jesus Christ for you all !!! 💕💗💕
Buggy, you are absolutely a farm girl and a great farm girl at that!
I don't remember whom to attribute this, but STUN gardening: Sheer Total Utter Neglect.
Mark Shepard? I'm listening to his book Restoration Agriculture on Audible right now
Buggy’s braided pigtails are everything!..she’s absolutely precious!..that was a great haul of potatoes for a bonus bed!..well done Ben…love you guys..thanks so much for sharing your lives with all of us..blessings from your biggest Western NC fan❤🙏🏻
I love how you guys use everything. Waste not want not my mom used to say.
Sure wish that Meg could electronically ship what she cooks via video's. ;) Loved the whole family interaction today,
Good afternoon, thank you for sharing your harvest today! It brought back memories of being on the farm when i was a child and all the food my grandmother and aunts used to preserve, well first dig up and clean and then preserve. I have many happy memories of that farm and my grandmother who would be 115 today. Have a lovely evening.
"Butter makes everything better!" So true..
Love seeing Buggy laying in the sunbeam on the floor while Meg makes dinner. ❤
my goodness i just realized how tall buggy is. she gonna be long legged like her daddy she is such a treasure ❤❤❤
WOW! Buggy is your little right hand gal.... and oh how she has grown! Makes my heart soar every time I see her out with Dad on the farm...and after all... like she says... she is a "farm girl". SHE IS SO TALL and THINNED OUT NOW! Perfect timing for the newborn.... Love your family!
It’s fun watching the kids help & get excited about their harvest! The baby sure is growing. So sweet & Buggy too.
That's what I did this week. Replanted some potato plants after taking the biggest ones off. I just plant peels and that is where I get all the potatoes that I grow.
So cute watching you and buggy picking potatoes. The thing I do with tiny potatoes is wash them, slice them in half, coating them with olive oil, and sprinkle with garlic salt and pepper and parmesan cheese. Then bake them in the oven till done.
I rember finding your channel through Art and Bri when he came over to help with the remodel. I have enjoyed watching your family life on the farm. I wish I could live on a farm like I grew up on.
Was Meg a chef at some point in her life or prior life. She has a impressive knowledge of preparing food.😊
I love to see you and Buggi working in the garden. She loves working with you and exploring the many treasures in your gardens.❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
I remember gardening with my Dad, I was one of six children and I was the only one that liked to garden so that got me lots of quality time with him. Buggie is a wonderful helper and it is sweet to see her spending time with her Dad and learning!!!
QUESTION: What's the status of the addition? Is it waiting funding, inspection, cooler days, the baby to get a little older, slowing down of all the farming things, or some combination of all the things?
I have to tell you, those chicken rolls of yours are now a favorite of my family. So delicious, and my new favorite way to use up leftover chicken.
Hello? Hi - yes can I book a table for two at Meg's Kitchen Restaurant ? 7:00 pm is perfect. Are Baby snuggles included? Ta. See you then!
I absolutely love your channel and your family! What a blessing to be part of your life through videos. I even got my mom to start watching and now she’s going to order from your store. BUT the reason for this comment is for Buggy…let her know that me and mom say GROW everytime we put a plant in the ground. We actually just did it this morning 🤣 thank you for your informative videos you’ve taught me so much and thank you for sharing so much. Your family is loved and blessed.
My grandad used to make fried potatoes and then add the eggs directly into the fried potatoes and cook till the eggs were completely cooked. It was so delicious! I still make taters and eggs like this to this day. It's always been a favorite of mine!
Ben, thanks been wondering how the back garden was doing not bad amount of potatoes. Same with carrots and beets always nice seeing the boys helping out. Buggy the farm girl so adorable and love her pigtails Meg.
Meg, the chicken pinwheels oh my looked so delicious.
Have a great weekend.
Blessings to you and the family. 😊🇺🇲
When you were pouring the chicken into the bowl I thought PINWHEELS . I wish I could have had some of those. Thanks for the video!
Just a small 10-minute thunderstorm.
Dropped 20° to 78° Last night, lots of heat lightning for over an hour.
We only had sprinkles. Many got hit hard with terrible storms. A big mess. Lots without power. BLESSED. All is WELL. THANK GOD.
EXCITED 52 FRIDAY SHOPTALK YES🎉🎉🎉🎉
SE MICHIGAN 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 GREAT PICKINS OF FOOD. PIGS ARE HAPPY.

Buggie sets clear and distinct boundaries.
Good on you girl❕
I love eating from the garden, delicious! Buggie is so darn cute! ❤
When you see your two orange cats together, you really can see the difference. Love little sister 🥰. She reminds me as a little sister. I'm a much older sister these days 😉.
I have been meaning to build a Hugleculture bed… glad yours worked so well! Good to hear!
I just love how Buggie has been your helper! What a great kid! ❤
Love your channel! 💚🙌🏽
Yea Maine!! 💚🙌🏽 Proud Mainer here!! 👋🏽 Coast of Maine has great products!
So we run a horse farm here in Maine and take our manure to a compost facility about two miles from our farm. Bensons Farm. They make the absolute BEST compost called Surf & Turf. I adore it for my gardens! Fun fact.. they recently took a humpback whale that washed up passed 😢 in our local harbor to their facility to compost. They use so much seafood shells/ waste, coffee grounds, animal waste etc.. it’s an impressive facility/ operation!!
the best potting soil ever:) I started my gated in New Hampshire with branches and hunks of wood then put soil over it and was the best garden ever..
When I was young my grandma & I would dig up little potatoes like that . They were the red ones , she called them 'new potatoes '. (she lived in a neighborhood but had a pretty big yard.) The way she served them was like a delicacy to me. She had the knack with just the right amount of salt and butter.
Megs runaway bread sure is amusing... Your hugelkultur mound at the dugout that stays moist all the time, is really genius... All that good farm air and farm food sure is making Buggy stretch... from teany potatoes to baseball plus sized beets mother nature is smiling at your farm... And with Millie and Sketch leading the pack... You just know... "All Is Well At This Homestead."
I am a farm girl. Ben starts so early in morning and there is his little farm girl so beautifully turn out. ❤❤🌻🌻
Buggy is a great farmer, love how she enjoys being with you and learning. Your boys are so great they jump in and really know what there doing, your both good teachers. Life long learning that will always help them. Love your family.
early harvest of potato's we call 'new potatos' in the UK, they are really good cleaned boiled or baked, i like to halve them coat in butter and air fry them, mini roast potato's, great for salads or snacking...
Can't beat the taste of a garden grown carrot.
Good job Meg, with the bread dough you couldn't have done any better. Meg 💥💙❗❗❗💙💥
That hugel bed reminds me of the kitchen junk drawer...
🤣🤣🤣🤣 yep 🤣👵🏻👩🌾❣️
I started to panic when buggy was behind in that sticks are . Thought a snake would be there
I actually had the same thought!
When will you get a chance to get back to building the addition? Love watching Buggy ...
Buggie is soooo smart!! She IS a little “farm girl”!!! ❤️❤️
I don't have an appetite when I'm hot either.
Moe is my spirit animal; doing what I wish I could do...lay down in the shade.🤜
Have a blessed weekend!!!
✌️💖🙏🇺🇲🇮🇱✝️🕊️🙌
I like leaving some little potatoes in the ground for fall potatoes. Buggy is always ready to help dad out in the garden, even though she eats more fruit than ever makes it to the kitchen 😂. Such a beautiful family and you guys are very blessed.
Wow what a harvest haul. With a big family it certainly a huge bonus helping with good tucker. Love seeing all the kids chip in the reaping the harvest. Great family involvement. All in ... ❤ just helping the next generation learning the great skills of providing for family
Hey Hollers 👋, I bought a bag of those babies and planted them in the Greenstalk 👍.
I've made seed potatoes out of them and they are up and running out of the Pots as we speak!
The beast place for a Farm Girl is in the garden with Daddy😍.
She also knows where the treats grow😂.
🤔 spoiled by Mumma 🤗.
Happy Harvesting 😊.
JO JO IN VT 💞
Potatoes are my husband's love language!
(LITTLE BABY IS SO SWEET!!🥰)
Your new little one is so precious! It's fun to see a thriving tiny baby!
Awesome farvest! Great to see you beautiful family! Blessings!
In Canada we have a short season of the best "new potatoes" called warba. So tasty!!!! The best small potatoes and totally different than those small potatoes they sell in grocery stores! Do you grow "warba" potatoes too? The season is short, but so worth spring/early summer baby potatoes with butter & Chopped fresh dill!
Nothing better than baby potatoes in cream with fresh dill. Soooo yummy.
Little Buggy’s face when she explained that the blackberry was hers…..priceless. She definitely is your farm girl
❤Buggy found the best treasure
Oh that little Buggie, such a sweetheart helping dad with morning chores!!!❤ It seems like she has grown a bushel now that she's a big sister!🤗 And speaking of growing, little Elizabeth definitely is filling out and growing good on mama's milk!!!!❤ Y'all make the prettiest babies!😘 I still think Elizabeth Rose is a spitting image of Buggie at that age! So beautiful! Meg, your chicken pinwheels look delicious! Nice haul of new taters, carrots, and beets. I love to roast root veggies. The beets turn out so sweet. I've got the large Pampered Chef sheet pan, and I fill it full of cut up beets, carrots, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, onions and garlic. Drizzle a little olive oil, salt/pepper, and a touch of dried Italian herbs, then bake until tender. Roasted root veggies are so good...beets are my favorite though cause they get so sweet!
P.S. After watching a 2nd time, I just noticed the "Biscuit" rug in your living room!!!! Nice and soft!👌
Any updates on the addition? Your garden is jamming!!
Can you please give us an update of when you will be returning to building the addition??
.?
That's 3.97 a pound in Jax Florida brother 😊 awesome job
I have a home in Jacksonville Florida. I’m currently visiting my family in NC.❤
Hollar Family---My goodness. You are Goodness. Thank you for sharing your authenticity!
A couple of years ago, I found that Happy Frog soil was full of small stones, large wood chips, the quality had gone way down. Have since switched to Coast of Maine & found the quality much better.
So ...watching Buggie wander around in old logs and bushes, I wonder if you all have snakes and poisonous critters to watch for. How are the ticks in tall grasses/bushes?
How lucky you are , able to spend so much time with your kids, especially Buggie. Truly blessed.
Ben: I will say theres some itty bitty ones...
Meg: That's ok, we can still eat 'em
Meg: *licks lips in anticipation*
❤😂❤
I guess every berry on the HH is really a Buggie berry. Like she said, she's a farm girl, and you can't change that. Be blessed y'all. Jesus Rules!
Her vocabulary is so good!! She imitates mom and dad very well. Lol😊
I dug potatoes today too lol. I got enough to go with some green beans and Cajun sausage 😊 I only have a few carrots left to pick, thanks for the reminder! I planted my spring garden, now I’m getting my summer stuff going. Cutting grass takes most of my time. Chicky styling those boots! 🫶🏻 For some reason I use to think of John Wayne when I watched your videos. Are yall related to him? I see such resemblances in the boys and Meg. And Sister always reminds me of that John Wayne/Katherine Hepburn movie. He called her Sister and she was spunky.
Have a great evening! ✌🏻
Ben, I think you have a good garden this year. Yeah, beets and beef greens and you've had good potatoes. Also in a miscellaneous spot of putting the potatoes at hookup culture area. Good job! Ben, I wouldn't have done it any better than what you've done this year in your garden. You've done very well this year. I couldn't have done it any better Ben congratulations Ben on your garden this year 💥🩷❗❗❗🩷💥
Those little potatoes are great cooked with green beans and onion, and of course garlic. What a bounty, and Buggy is great help to dad!
I planted my teeny tiny potatoes in a random spot of the garden I cleared, hoping to use the big ones for seed potatoes next year! Love ya'll! Hey everyone in the comments I love you too! 💚
💜YESSA ORGANIC SOIL FROM MAINE THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE LOVE IT HERE💜
OMG! PLS BUILD A PROPER COUNTER FOR MAG BEHIND THE SOFA!😊 SHE NEEDS THE SPACE.
I simply love watching all the kids and Mom & Dad workng like its no biggie.... Kids are getting soooo big. Keep it up!
Buggy is so grown up and she is a great helper.
Ben and Meg ❤
Making smashed potatoes of the tiny potatoes is perfect .
Just cook them for 5 minutes unpeeled of course.
Lay them out on a heavy buttered sheet pan and smash them with the bottom of a glass.
Lots of salt and pepper and some garlic power and sweet paprika powder .
In the middle of the oven at 390
Turn after 12 minutes and add more spices and cook in the oven for 12 more .
Maybe longer , depends on the oven , they are supposed to turn out really crispy round the edges and soft in the very middle😊
Some freshly cut chives on top before serving is the icing on the potato cake😂
One of the best potato dishes ever ❤
I love it with a whole pork loin wrapped in bacon,
some fresh green beans sautéed in garlic butter.
Creme fraise with herbsalt and chives to dip the potatoes in.
Maybe ranch will be preferred by most Americans 🙃
I Hope someone in this comment section will try this for dinner one night.
May I suggest a blackberry cheesecake cobbler for dessert.
If you don’t know what that it.
Just make your normal cobbler You just cut cold plain Creme cheese in small squares and add the bits random on top like the blackberries ( or other berry or fruit if you prefer)
Some cinnamon and Demerara sugar on top before cooking vanilla ice cream on the side..
😅😅😅😅
Yeah.. making myself hungry..
I know what I’ll serve my next guests now, haven made this in a long time, but all of it is amazing ❤❤❤
I love you guys so much!! 😊😊
Little potatoes= salt potatoes! It's a Central/Western NY thing. Boil them whole in the most crazy salted water. When done drain and slather and drown in melted butter. Mmmmm. Salt miners came up with this dish here!
Great harvest! All the kids are such great helpers! Buggy so cute, not sharing her blackberries! Baby so sweet! The food looked so delicious! I need to make those! Did you can your own red pepper sauce?
Buggy is so funny and cute and she seems to be getting taller. I love when she spontaneously breaks out into song.
Your harvesting and here in Alberta we had frost warnings. Slow growing year for us. We need heat.
Looking good. THANKS
