Palm roll your locs at home

  • I strongly believe that palm rolling is a home based maintenance.
If, as a loctician, all you do is retwist, your pocket is shallow because of that.
Every person with locs should be able to do a basic palm rolling retwist whenever necessary.
Palm rolling should be done monthly.
Meaning if you are interlocking or crocheting for maintenance, every 12 weeks you should palm roll in between, either by going to your loctician or doing it yourself or asking your partner, home girl etc to do it.
The goal is to keep the parts from matting. Your goal is not a squeaky, clean instagramic retwist. It's more for the health of your locs than for a selfie.
Also, if you use a product to retwist, remember less is more. Use less than you intend to.
Most product build-up and loc products related problems are caused by people believing that the product is doing the locking, and so they heap up a ton of it. Products do not help in the locking process. Water, time, and technique do the locking.
Loc products are for esthetics, loc health, ease of maintenance, etc, not locking. They do not. You do need products but not for the locking process.

My barber was horribly overworked on most days, I'm sure he would appreciate a couple of his clients doing their own bits now and then.

I love this!!!! I’m having a hard time finding a good loctitian here where I live and I’m trying to do it myself until we find the right one.

I literally just told my friend I need to book a salon appointment. She told me why pay when I can do the same thing at home? I told her because I love the pampered experience I get when someone else does it. Same with lashes, waxing, and nails. I can do it, but I’d prefer someone else to do it.

    That analogy was A tier.
I went semi free form because of my experiences (humiliation).
It sucked but it allowed me to deep dive and maintain my own stuff.
I'd love a dope Loctician I can go to, but I think my past 3 experiences got me skittish

as a locktition myself, I don't agree on it being enough to do a retwist at home. They can extend staying away a bit longer keeping it a bit tighter and organised. But in the end, you always need to go back to a locktition who knows how to take care of dreadlocks.
