- PRS Backstage Lounge Correspondent Ryan J. Downey interviewed both Rob Halford and Babymetal after their killer performance at the APMAs. Halford discussed planning the performance for months, adding an additional song and Babymetal commented on how the award show is a "dream come true."

He seems quite humble, he's probably also heard a lot that Judas Priest are one of the first metal bands along with Sabbath and co.

This is like watching a super cool grandfather talking about his equally cool granddaughters
I was thinking this might be an example of Japanese social etiquette - I noticed the way the girls give Rob their undivided attention when he speaks. They're acknowledging not only is he "senior" to them, he's also the "master" and they're the students.
My Advice: Find some who looks at you the way Babymetal looks at Rob Halford

She most likely misunderstood the question. I notice a lot of that in their interviews. She did say todays show was exciting. But she didnt seem to answer the question. There was no pause between her saying todays show was exciting. So the first part doesnt sound like an answer to the question.
How come they didn't find a translator for her haha
@@danc1197 nah it was most likely an unexpected question. They probably have their answers scripted before they do interviews being J-pop idols they've got managers calling all the shots. The interviewer most likely got a bollocking from the managers after the cameras were off.
They usually have an interpreter around. I imagine she just misunderstood and they all moved on. Maybe the interpreter wasn't with them

Rob really is an icon and speaks well for the genre as a whole.

I've noticed that she ALWAYS look at Moa during the various interviews they have. :) She almost never look at Yui, cause she knows Yui doesn't understand english at all.

Paraphrased from a linguist: "Kawaii is not so much about how something looks, it is about the way it makes you feel." Kawaii is about that sort of pure, innocent, joy you feel when looking at a kitten or, in this case, Babymetal. Time has passed now, a good bit and they are becoming less kawaii and more beautiful, incredibly powerful young women.
Rob Halford is such a gentle rock legend, Babymetal is great and I love them as much as I love this collaboration because we can see not only a great permorfance and listen to great music but also a mix of generation with respect and metal.

She went in to a canned and rehearsed answer cause she wasn't confident with her English. Incredibly adorable, for sure.
Yeah, at that time, she was barely learning english. Now it is totally different story, both SU and MOA imoroved their english a lot.

BABYMETAL doesn't need Rob Halford's recognition/seal of approval to be amazing metal artist but they still get it anyway. He even talks about how he'd been watching the girls grow and how hardworking the girls are in trying to be a better artist/performers as they grow. Of course, even the fans already know this since the efforts that these girls and KAMI Band give for their performances are just tremendous.

Dude they're a manufactured pop band that sing over the actual talented backing band. Getting Rob Halford's appraisal is far more than they deserve. Judas Priest write their own songs, they made it after starting from nothing they didn't have some rich talent agency to propel them to the top they got there on their own. Babymetal never played any pubs they went straight to big venues because they had the agency. Judas Priest had to work much harder to get where they are. Judas Priest are metal legends who have influenced thousands of bands, Babymetal is just a gimmicky trend. No one will be listening to them in 2050 but people will still be cranking Painkiller and Living After Midnight when the band are long dead.
@@Fireglo, oh yeah, big venues, like their first gig in an underground venue that could barely hold a hundred people when packed. Actually the agency did not support them with any budget. There was not thought to be any money in metal music. Costumes were borrowed. They still had school full-time and had to keep up with their primary parts in a larger group. Such an easy thing. Oh, and manufactured, we all know that it takes a real band to make real music. Dead, dude, so many of the real bands out there are really just one or two (very talented) guys with some backing musicians and they still make music people enjoy. Ghost? Or maybe old school, what would CCR have been without Fogerty's music or vocals? Without him they are just a tribute band still doing his music, his arrangements and covers. The list of successful not real bands is huge. The manufactured vs real band thing is just a load of crap. And there a lot more real bands producing crap than anybody even knows about, because they can't make good music.

@@Fireglo is there a law set in stones that says you can't be metal unless you write your own songs? I know for a fact you are just spreading hate because you criticize this band without actually knowing anything about them. Big venues? Is that what they call to a show with only 5000 or less people? What else are you going to say? You can't dance to metal? Or maybe something dumb as "they are dolls and dolls don't exist in metal"?

Things I like about this: The girls were clearly still not very strong with English at this point (if at all, though they are now) and looked really nervous when the attention was turned to them which was cute. Two: awesome of Rob to try and give them an opportunity to speak and have the spotlight as opposed to it all being about him and Judas Priest. Three: Also very awesome of them to keep the spotlight on him because they fully recognize that is Rob fucking Halford and they weren't about to not respect senpai.

I think he and Judas Priest came from humble beginnings, and he obviously knows what discrimination is like, so it's nice he's defending 3 young girls making a fusion of of metal/pop as there's those that'll discriminate against them.
Fun Fact* Rob was in a band called Hiroshima. Which is Su's hometown.
