    Congratulations Abbey!!! I'm completely new here and working my way through the videos. This may have been addressed somewhere, but I'm wondering about a video regarding common questions when trying to implement intuitive eating. Mine is that I have a struggle with sugar. When I eat anything sugary I feel mentally foggy and sluggish and drowsy. The same is true for my mother as well. I literally can not consume sugar if I'm at work or if I'm trying to enjoy a movie with my hubby or if I'm driving. But of course I love sugary foods and have occasional binges. Our current strategy is that my hubby and I have dessert together once a month , but I know this is restrictive. How does a person work on eating intuitively when there is a push and pull between what they want to eat and what actually makes them feel good or feel crappy? I don't have the same effect from eating fruits like berries or cherries, which are my favorite fruits. I'm not sure about other fruits because I just don't tend to eat many.

    THANK YOU so much for mentioning fertility of men as well. I think if you are in a heterosexual relationship the majority of the focus of fertility (at least when it comes to the societal expectations) is on the woman and what they can do to increase their fertility and there is little to no talk about how men can help optimize their fertility as well. Obviously, if you are being treated for infertility a doctor will likely test both partners, but I find most lay people think it is the woman's responsibility/fault if the do/do not get pregnant. So thank you 😊

    Would you consider doing a fertility files video on endocrine disruptors such as BPAs and phthalates? I'm a reproductive geneticist, and I've heard some scary talks at the ART conferences on the effects of endocrine disruptors on fertility. But please can I appeal - don't apologise for saying woman and pregnant in the same sentence. Or even for saying woman/women at all. The world is going completely mad if that becomes the 'new normal' and marks the erosion of womens' rights. Let's be proud of being women, and not allow others to make us feel bad for speaking plain and true facts. Thank you.

    • @jboop6
      @jboop6 Před rokem +1

      I agree Abbey! Please don’t apologise for this. It’s genuinely saddening and disempowering that anyone would feel uncomfortable (or be made to feel uncomfortable) saying “women” when talking about pregnancy.
      I think many have good intentions of not wanting anyone to feel excluded and so they will alter language in this way, but more often that not, people who are born female but identify as trans men do not care about situations like this. They’re not wanting language change like this. But ‘allies’ and some wackos comment with protest, and make it seem that way. In reality, apologising for saying ‘women’ when talking about pregnancy, creates resentment and hostility towards trans people who for the majority, never wanted anyone to feel uncomfortable saying woman. I say this based on transgender people talking about this.

    Abbey I have a question about the claim that "non-heme iron may help decrease anovulatory infertility". I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and have been trying out a lower-carb (but nowhere near keto) diet for the past month - meaning wayyy less non-heme sources like beans, potatoes, and enriched cereal/pasta. But I also have severe anemia, which I supplement for. So basically I'm wondering if I should focus on finding more non-heme iron in my diet to offset the infertility risk, or does it not matter because I take ferrous sulfate pills? I'm also not a huge fan of meat and would like to eat more plant-based meals but find it really hard to make a well-balanced low-ish-carb vegetarian dinner :(

    Mmmm, this information on Vitamin D and endometriosis is not correct, misleading, and very confusing. Endometriosis is by definition a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when endometrial-LIKE cells (they are histologically different from endomeTRIUM AKA actual uterine lining cells) that are OUTSIDE of the uterus and cause terrible pain, adhesions, scarring, organ distortion, and sometimes infertility due to obstructions. This is likely misplaced tissue laid down during fetal development and probably genetic according to the most recent research. EndomeTRITIS is the infection of the endomeTRIUM, the actual lining of the uterus. EndomeTRIOSIS is notoriously talked about with a lot of myths and errors. It is a terrible disease and we have no effective treatments or management that are not very damaging in and of themselves aside from expert excision surgery, which is not accessible to everyone even though it is the gold standard of treatement. Please don't add to the confusion with a random erroneous comment about Vitamin D possibly helping with endomeTRIUM thickness. There is nothing that you can actively do to prevent having endomeTRIOSIS, though some supplements have been shown to help with inflammation and hormone levels. It is a hormone-dependent disease in that it responds to hormones, but it is not *caused* by hormones. The supplements you mention may be helpful to people with endometriosis, but the context is all wrong. Please post a correction or addendum.
    I was casually listening to this at work and had to actually re-wind. Misinformation and poor treatment options are the biggest barriers to better options for endometriosis patients. There is a 7-10 year average delay in diagnosis (for me probably more like 12 years). Please help us not to perpetuate problematic or confusing information. Endometriosis has nothing to do with endometrium thickness.
    Thank you for clarifying this for your viewers!

    • @llamaliza6886
      @llamaliza6886 Před 4 lety +4

      My suggestion would be to not focus on your weight so much. 8 pounds is not going to make any difference in your health! If you're losing weight for other reasons you may want to evaluate your priorities as restrictive eating in the long term leads to unhealthy relationships with food and often leads to weight gain. Counting calories especially is suspected to be a major cause of binge eating and weight gain. It's much harder to heal the relationship with food after restrictive dieting, so the less restrictive you can be the better! My recommendation would be to look into mindfulness-based eating and intuitive eating. Abbey has some good videos on intuitive eating!

    • @AbbeysKitchen
      @AbbeysKitchen  Před 4 lety +4

      I agree 8 lbs won’t make or break your health, but reducing calories too low can. Yes it’s possible to reverse metabolic damage (better known as metabolic adaptation) , I’m working on a video on this but adding 50-100 cal/ week can help fix the adaptation

    • @bpsara
      @bpsara Před 4 lety +2

      Nina dovale I’m no expert (it’s better if you research this from reliable sources) but I think it’s more about the quality of your food and your activity level. Measuring your intake is good, but it’s not the only thing you should take into account. Make sure that the meals you eat will provide the nutrients that your body and mind need (eg: snacking on veggie sticks or nuts instead of low calorie popcorn). Where are your calories coming from? How much of it is processed/takeout/fast foods? Are you getting enough proteins? Be mindful of what you eat, not just how much you’re eating.
      There’s also other variables to consider: Eating too frequently throughout the day, not sleeping enough, having too much caffeine or sugar, stress, age, and other things also have an important role.
      Of course every body is different, so maybe not everything will apply to you, but I think it’s a good starting point. Asking these questions helped me a lot when I started trying to make healthier choices for my physical and mental health (I was spiraling into sugar addiction), so I hope my unnecessarily long comment can be helpful to you as well.

    YUP- moral of the story we need more research on Women's health!! I was telling my boyfriend about something I believe has helped my ovarian cysts and pelvic pain. He asked if it was legit and I said, "I don't know, can't find any good studies on it"

    Oh no, this was honestly SO good until the naturopath came on. Ugh. Evidence-based is always the way to go, and unfortunately naturopaths have way to much pseudo-science backed by their college for me to take them seriously. Girl, you are in Toronto, one of the leading places in the world for infertility, there are so many legit doctors that could have been amazing to feature on here.

    I know that you’re talking about sex organs, but I would love to see some more inclusive language in your fertility files videos since some women don’t have vulvas/uteruses, and some men do. Similarly, some men don’t create sperm (no testes) and some women do. Trans/non-binary people also have children! Love the information, as usual, but I wanted to speak up for non cisgender individuals ❤️

      Ria I hope you are transgender to make a comment like this, speaking for transgender persons. Many trans people do not want to alter language like this or make a woman feel uncomfortable for talking about women when discussing pregnancy. For many, this creates resentment and hostility towards trans people and worsens things for them.

    What a joke!!!!
    You just went over all the supplements that are needed to get pregnant and sustain a healthy pregnancy that are all mostly found in MEAT and eggs and then when you start talking about food the first thing you say is more plant based protein 😂. This is why people are struggling to get pregnant.
    Eat your red meat and eggs ladies. Not only will you FEEL like having sex, your body will have the right nutrients to ovulate and sustain a pregnancy. -mother of 5
