RTD: Rail damage causing major slowdowns to trains

An RTD safety project is leading to serious slowdowns and big headaches for riders. FOX31's Nate Belt learned that damage to the rails is part of the issue.

So for those who don't know what it is. Rail burn is where excessive wheelspin from the train digs a divot into the rail itself, minor rail burn can be fixed by resurfacing the rail, but if it's bad enough the section of rail needs to be replaced. This could've been an ongoing issue from deferred maintenance or a result of recent heavy rain making the rails slick and causing wheelspin on the trains, light rail is particularly prone to it as their lighter weight means less force pushing down on the rail through the wheels.
