I loved this show as kid, this was before my younger brother was born and I was allowed to eat watching TV.

This series had its genesis {as virtually every Ivan Tors TV production} in a 1967 theatrical feature, "Africa- Texas Style!", with Hugh O'Brian in the lead role. By the time it began airing on ABC's Monday night schedule at 7:30pm(et) in the fall of 1967, Chuck Connors was the star. It lasted one season. There were six "participating" sponsors in every episode, 'GOOSEY', because by that time, advertisers preferred buying minutes on series like this, rather than "bankroll" an entire hour...

Boy does this show conjures up memories! This was the show Chuck Connors did after "Branded" was cancelled. The co-star also appeared in "Cat Ballou".

"Poor" Chuck had to wait 15 years after this one to headline another show. However, he kept on working non-stop right up to his death. Pretty amazing to have had a forty year career and never had an acting lesson.

Chuck Connors, blazing a trail for Jack Lord there by having everyone BUT him credited with their character names.

Let's see if this makes any sense, a Texas CIA contractor is stationed in Central Africa, and takes a hired hand with him?

This show killed The Man from UNCLE in January 1968.However,NBC got even.Laugh-In took the time slot, shot up to #1,Cowboy in Africa's ratings tumbled & only ran that one season.

A lot of bitterness in that comment methinks.

This action and adventure television series wasn't as far-fectched as Daktari.

Apparently no locals assisted them. Seems a little insulting to Africans.
