- Avalanche control teams dropped bombs from a helicopter onto Ajax Peak in Telluride, Colorado, to trigger a massive avalanche. The insane avalanche slides can be seen about 30 seconds into this video.
A crowd gathered on East Colorado Avenue to witness the avalanche.

had to mute the white boy woot.
I grew up in silverton Colorado and I love to see avalanches! So much power and energy and so much beauty! Love telluride!
Silverton... where the men are men, and the women are too.
That's real Colorado living. I was a "Demon" but you were a "Miner"? I can't remember. We were mighty fortunate, I'll say that.

You totally can't tell they're all a bunch of stoners.. 😁
LOL❗😄⛷ Who's your daddy now⁉😄😆
Lived in Aspen in the 1960's. On our trips to the Utah desert we'd stop by Telluride occasionally, before the ski area was put in it was just hard rock mining, 3 bars and a small grocery store.
How cool! I was raised in DGO, played in a band and we gig'd there several times. It WAS 3 bars, an old hotel and that's about it. It was the remnant of an old mining town and the State Highway Department barns.
One of the bars had the band stage BELOW the crowd. It was like a dusty, smoke-filled coliseum.
Always will be gorgeous. What a great memory. Thanks!
@@petecartwright5211 Haa! cool story. We'd search places like Tohellyouride to get away from what we thought was the madness of Aspen in that day. Imagine, there was one traffic light in Aspen and not a single condo to be seen yet. Southwest CO was special, including places like DGO. Hop skip and jump to the Canyons, Capitol Reef, Goblin Valley.
@@jerryrontic1007 We stomped all over the San Juans. I was young but the states beauty didn't go by us. It's impossible not to see it and feel it throughout most of the state.
We were lucky. YOU remember Aspen BEFORE all the build-ups. That's a Coloradoan! A real one who saw the place long before development took over.
Well done! We're damn near bros.!!
The good thing WE both know...you can build all you want but nature rules the roost there and is never outshined.

Even the dog and the parrot were having a good time.
Listen for them.
Went through Telluride summer of 76 on a jeep trip with a buddy. Beautiful little town then too!
for the guy yelling, this must be his first time out in public, or just had his first beer.
Ah, to be a dude, smoke a joint, beer in hand, watch the avalanche.
One of the most beautiful places in United States. Surrounded on 3 sides with gorgeous mountains. Wonderful little town.
You should have seen it 40 years ago. Quaint, small mountain town, amazing people. No pretension at all. Beautiful year 'round.
yes! and the on other side of the mountain is Ouray the "little swiss alps of America" another gorgeous place and the amazing Orvis hot springs are in the middle in Ridgeway
I watch the live camera online. It's really a beautiful peaceful town.
Keep it under your hat, dumbass, or they'll ruin that place too.

@rustytr not everyone want's to live off mommy and daddy's money to buy drugs and live a boho life on a mountain and claim they're living a genuine and independent existence - not everyone has that luxury.
Telluride stoners. Love that town and the people. What an amazing place. Prettiest place in the lower 48.
Yes, but I prefer the upper 48!
Pretty is the perfect description-
It’s a disgusting shitty town

A few drinks and an induced avalanche...gotta love it!

I had to shovel my driveway again. Took me 3weeks.
...Hey, when did we get a cat??
Avalanches are amazing.
We need more Avalanches in Videogames.
Every dude in that village: There it goes!
I love telluride I need to get back maybe end of 2019
Snow avalanches are deceptive. From a distance, they just look like soft white fluffy clouds.
“Wooooooo”. Gets buried by tonnes of snow
It was a controlled avalanche
Okay you're a white guy, PLEASE tell me why do white people scream that??

Dude that was freakin awesome 👏 😎
I love snow ❄️
My nose started twitching looking at all that beautiful powder 😂
I would be amazed but worried at the same time if I saw this.

Water runs downhill - people get excited 😆 love it 👍
The bro level is at a all time high.
Beautiful little town with some crazy people
Whoooaaa !!!! that was gnarly dude ...
Great view!
Now you know where Spicoli moved to after leaving Ridgemont High.
One summer I hiked up the switchback jeep trail that goes up the canyon to the top of the waterfall. I remember wondering about avalanches in the winter....

i think I hear Tom Green there in the background going whoohoooo barrel roll!!!
Even the magpie liked it.
Vey beautiful
My dad rigged those charges for Red Mountain. CDH (Riverside. The other side of the hill.) They used a small Howitzer too. They also used a recoilless rifle mounted in the back of a Dodge truck for a few years.
They also used a plastic rocket-looking thing that had the tube filled with explosive and they would put the detonator on it over their target and then drop it from the copter. They were about 3 ft. long and you could see through the plastic and the charge.
I was fascinated by it all but only got to go along a couple of times. I never got to fly along. That was a no-no.
Very impressive 👍🏻
Okayyy little timmy, the fireworks are over now. We can quit screaming.
Even the dog had something to say.
Not enough grown men screaming.
it would be a bad day to be a mountain climber
Think of how many little critters just suffocated lol
I lived for several years 1 hour from Telluride. The servers, housekeepers, etc couldn’t afford to live there. They lived in Cortez and took a bus everyday to work.
LIVED THERE FOR TEN YEARS, I WAS CALLED THE LAWNMOWER MAN, AND I ALSO DROVE TOWTRUCKS THERE, BEST JOB EVER, I ALWAYS FELT LIKE A SUPERHERO, SAVING THE DAY, THE PEOPLE ARE THE BEST, GOD BLESSED TELLURIDE .;]>>>~~
I'm in telluride right now!
That was cool. I'd like to witness that in person ... at a distance of course.
The stoner guy that says "What??" A few times is funny. Only thing he didn't say was "Gnarly"!
Duude
I was waiting for it.....😚
“.... whoahhhhh .... it’s still goinghhhh “ 🌺
I have skied there ski so many countless times. Gladly, I’ve never been caught in an avalanche.
3 years later a jeep tumbles down that hill
well, that road is to the right
@@googoo-gjoob The point of my post was to get the people who saw the jeep tumble down the hill to reply.
Not to get captain obvious to point out that this isn't the correct area.
@@travisk5589 , you're welcome.
it just goes to show that you DO NOT have to have an avalanche in order to be DRUNK!!
The best eggs benedict I had in my entire life was at the New Sheridan Hotel. It's seen on the left in the wide shot. Oh, yeah, and the skiing was good, too.

Wow snow fell!
That would be cool to see from a distance.
Whoooooo broooo check out that wave of snow brah
Telluride could pass for South Park 😂
I hiked the valley on top of the snow fall after this
I think we drove through this town on our way from Denver to Aspen. Nice town. I think road leading to Leadville comes on your right side between Telluride and Aspen.
Not likely. Telluride is in the SW part of the state. You'd have to drive eight hours to get there. I think you are thinking of Breckinridge.
No chance. Its the end of the line
not likely teluride is at a dead end, and 50 miles from montrose, try placervile or norwood, if you wanna get close
Broooooo! Whoaaaaaaaaaa!
Whoooahh!! Snow falling down a mountain!!! 🤯🥳🎉🤪
just IN-Sane!

I’m actually in telluride watching this rn
Must be the first time they saw an avalanche.
“Bruh” “Whoooooa” “Whaaaat?”
Hope they warn skiiers to stay off the slopes as they're doing avalanche triggers
Nah
It sure doesn't take much...
I’ll bet Spicoli left the lens cap on the camera - Whooooah
Just eatin' some pizza and learning about avalanches!
I’m aware that’s Ajax Peak from the title. But does anyone know what little town/ village that it in CO?
EDIT: didn’t read title well enough. Telluride, CO
Yessir, telluride! But if youd like to visit mountain towns like that, there are a few that dont cost as much. Of course see telluride but do ouray and silverton too! Theyre beautiful and great if you need cheaper and less fakey "moose/bear/plaid" and cant afford to buy a dang thing unless its got a dumb pot leaf on it.
Telluride is a beautiful place. I spent 6 days there on holiday but it was not easy for me. I found it very difficult to breath
I had to live there for about 6 months to get used to the thinner air!
My sisters and I are natives of Colorado, and when my little sister came back to visit, she had a really hard time breathing too. It’s crazy how she was totally used to it, but once she moved outta state, it completely changed.
As a hiker - I keep wondering if someone was on the mountain-?
I saw this for myself while I was riding up lift7

Saw the Grateful Dead there in 87…. Good times
Telluride is beautiful but once you've been there for a few days, you become accustomed to it and it's just another mountainous small town at that point. Just more expensive. I'd prefer living in a less touristy town in Colorado.
I like the back dirt roads around Coal Creek Canyon.
Any recommendations, I’m looking around Google maps for one one to visit
Wow!?!
In school I'm learning about avalanches
kid, you WHOO as often as possible from now on.
