Hi Rachit. I am surprised you did not talk about automatic transmission in CNG cars. With the advent of technology why can’t we have a auto transmission in CNG cars considering a bulk of CNG cars are used for daily commute and it would be a boon to both automakers in terms of sales and to customers in terms of driving comfort. I feel this in itself demands a separate video feature.

    • @motoroctane
      @motoroctane  Před rokem +8

The main thing is pricing. Automatic + CNG definitely sounds like a convenient option for buyers, but then there comes pricing. The pricing of automatic+CNG might cross the actual value that people might be willing to pay for. That is one of the reasons why most brands shy away from it.

    • @nikhilgarg00

    nhi denge,
    1. CNG is only popular in Delhi and no where else (rarely anyone uses)
    2. World is anyways moving towards electric vehicles.
So companies have literally no reason to waste their time, effort and money for specific minority when they know soon Electric cars will take over.
Companies be it automobile or tech, invest in anything that they know IS/WILL BE POPULAR, and WILL STAY IN THE INDUSTRY FOR LONG TIME.
and CNG cars don't satisfy either of these 2 conditions, neither is it popular, nor it is gonna stay in the coming future.

Almost all Uber / Ola taxis are now running on CNG, which has severely restricted their luggage-carrying capacity especially since very few of them have got rooftop carriers. This becomes a big problem when one is booking a taxi to say go to the airport or for inter-city travel. Further, neither the Uber nor Ola app mention the luggage carrying capacity of the taxi selected, which I feel is a must.

Nice ... Most problems highlighted. However, I live in a mega city called Kolkata. There are maybe five cng pumps in the entire city. So here is a problem that starts with a Q. Secondly, CNG cars come at a premium compared to their petrol counterpart. That means you have to travel at least 1500 km per month to make your savings break even with your initial outlay. CNG cars should cost less than their petrol counterparts, as they are under powered and their engines run hotter and last less. Thirdly, CNG may soon cost more than petrol as the revenue pundits see their taxes being whittled down to where it should be in a country with a vehicle ownership of 7.5% families in India. So the economical CNG car may lose its advantage in running costs ... Though GST at 28% on petrol will be very unfair and perhaps as unfair as gross tax that doubles the cost of petrol for the consumer. Mischief galore.

    4. performance - i cannot agree with this point.
A 1 liter CNG engine can not deliver the performance of 1 liter petrol engine. Period.
Power, performance is equal to dead when you drive CNG. And you turn the AC on and you are driving a car literary at 50% power compared to a same petrol car.
It is that you are saying "we never asked for lower performance" but majority CNG buyers are cost conscious and they buy only for "KITNA JADA DETI HAI", they don't care about features, power, they prefer to drive without AC for more FE.
Same engine can not deliver same performance on two different fuels. The biggest compromise from my perspective is buying a CNG car itself.... and companies know this very well and they deliver exactly the same. If CNG was so reliable in terms of power & performance then why there is not a single car comes only with CNG... without petrol switching? Then manufactures can very well push the CNG tank at the place for petrol tank and you get huge boot space.
A performance of 1 liter petrol engine can be delivered by 1.8 liter CNG engine... CNG is not a solution or a technology, it is a JUGADU WORKAROUND.

He is absolutely wrong. He is trying to compare racing car with budget car. We are not using CNG cars for racing, uses for economical travel. If he have money take whatever car he want. Why you are misleading others ?
    Please explain
    1) what is the ignition temperature of petrol & CNG. Then speak safety...
    2) why performance low in CNG ? You know Almost zero degree temperature gas is giving into the engine, to ignite same it requires 600°c , so it requires time , that is what is we seeing as drop in performance.

Yeah power stuff I agree with. If Tata can give CNG option without reducing power much then why other manufacturers can't give.
Not giving CNG option at top level variant is understandable because people will start looking at different car at that price segmemt rather than taking a CNG variant. Price sensitive market India is so things will work accordingly. But they can offer till second top model atleast and now should experiment with automatic transmission too
Altroz CNG won't have a spare tyre bcz of low GC can't even fit a spare wheel at the bottom like Punch.
So, little bit compromises will be there. I am astonished why no proper Sedan is an option with CNG yet like City, Verna, Virtus, Slavia or Ciaz etc. They make more sense with CNG as boots don't get compromised much. Also, we can get spare wheel in them in boot itself. There we won't even require twin cylinder technology.

Companies may not offer cng on top variants due to there are very less chances of customer selecting cng top model. Because of this reason Companies don't manufacture cng on top models.
If there won't be much demand for cng in top models it's waste of cost in manufacturing.
Instead of this option there should be an option if customer can order cng fitting in top end. So that Company can convert cng mid variant to topend variant and deliver.
Still what if customer change his mind Because of delay in delivery and cancel the order

    1. Good variant choices are offered by Suzuki in CNG fuel. (Eg. brezza has it in lxi, vxi & zxi)
    2. Aura, Baleno, Brezza, Vitara etc. are not budget cars.
    3. Boot space (Yes it is compromised but Tata is working on solving it)
    4. Performance: yes this is the problem.
    5. Safety: Brezza and Vitara are safe cars. Tata cars are safe cars.

Company should work on Petrol hybrid+CNG engine. We get better milage in CNG, infact double of the petrol, and CNG is available in low cost so the running cost reduces to half. If battery will assist to cng then we will get more better milage and there will be no lack in pickup also.

Two more problems are there in CNG card. Cost of car is much higher, we will get lots of petrol in the cost difference. 2nd is we have to inspect renew the CNG certificate after every 3 years, there also we have to spend lots of money.
