I love Knitting for Olive cotton merino. I'm just finishing up a Petite Knit Friday Tee in it and it's just lovely.
That sounds like a great project to make with that yarn!:)
What a great comparison! Thank you for doing these!!
We're so happy you enjoyed it!:)
Thanks for this. I live in the UK so Drops is widely available and very affordable. I recently used the cotton merino and have been very impressed with the quality and drape. I would certainly use it again.
We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed it! Thank you for sharing Elizabeth! :)
Can't wait for the next yarn review! I have used drops cotton merino. I wear the navy sweater I made with it all the time. It does pill after a while and show wear, but I do wear it a lot so that's to be expected I think.
We're so happy to hear that you enjoy it! :) Also, thank you for sharing about how it pills!
These are great comparisons
But I think you should drop the availability bit
Seconded! Or atleast maybe don't include this category into the rating as it is too much dependent on where one is located. Here in Europe the availability is sometimes totally different to what it might be in the Americas
Thank you for your feedback! We try to show accessibility because more often than not, yarns are less available to us here in the US, but a lot of times they can be accessed with certain shops that ship worldwide:)
In terms of the availability- KFO and Sandnes are both available at wool and co (based in IL and free shipping). You can also get Sandnes from mother knitter (also based in the US)
Yes, we love that they're available there!:)
Really appreciate this comparison. Really helps in making my current purchase.
Thank you Laurie! We are so happy that we could help!:)
My experience: Drops Merino does not keep its shape when knit. It "grows". Hats get to big after a few uses, cardigans are to easily pullet out of size or shape. It needs reblocking and steaming to often. But it is cheap...
Thank you for sharing your experience!
Drops is available at Lindehobby for the states!
Thank you for sharing!:)
OST of these yarns I get from mother knitter or biscotti or wool and co in the USA
Those are great shops to get your yarn from!:)
Drops! Cost is what I need to consider.
It is a great budget friendly option:)
Thanks so much for this comparison!! I was trying to make a decision with Sandnes Garn Duo or Drops Cotton Merino. Never compared to Knitting for Olive (as it's fingering, so more money, as to double it).
We're happy you enjoyed it! :)
Thanks for the review! Have you considered doing a video comparing these brands’ mohair yarns?
Yes of course! After July we will be transitioning back to our Fall/Winter yarns and hope to do a mohair comparison!:)
I don’t know if most people realize that when they are buying a super wash wool, they are buying something coated with a polymer (read plastic). I wonder if that should not also be a consideration?
Yes, the superwash treatment process coats the wool in a very fine layer of polymer plastic resin and chlorine, to help protect the wool from higher temperatures and felting. We believe it is absolutely a personal preference to consider when purchasing a yarn and what project you will be using it for :)
I just ordered Knitting for Olive Cotton Merino and was excited to see your comparison and the softness factor. One thing I'd love to see as a newbie knitter is a comparison of how the various yarns wear over time (stretching, pilling, etc.). I'm sure it's a subjective thing for everyone depending on use but I only seem to catch bits of information in videos on various youtube channels. As a new knitter trying out different yarns it's a bit intimadating because it's a lot of work to have the fabric pill pretty quickly.
Pilling doesn’t ruin a fabric. Keep a shaver on hand.
We can't wait to hear what you think of it! And we would really love to be able to show a longer time frame of how each yarn wears and pills, unfortunately time is just not on our side to be able to knit more than a swatch for each yarn that we review. Maintenance of garments will become your friend when it comes to washing and removing pills. We shared a video not too long ago about this:)
Not c,ear if you cost for KFO included the detail that you need much more yarn for a sweater if held double. Etc.
Both sandnes Garn duo and knitting for olive can be purchased in the States at Wool and Company with free shipping!
Yes! One of our favorite shops! :)
Great reviews ❣️ my budget would say Drops but I would want knitting for olive due to more cotton content.
You reviewed K&C once and loved its softness but it wasn’t compared here, what is the difference?
That yarn is 100% cotton, these three are wool cotton blends.
Happy you enjoyed them! Yes, we loved the K + C Essential cotton, but it is 100% cotton, doesn't have a ton of colors and is not widely available in our opinion.
Exactly!:)
What about yarn from “Mayflower”, there cotton/merino is beautiful to work with, but a tiny bit itchy to wear.
We haven't reviewed any of their yarns yet, but we will add that to our list!
I'm missing a parameter regarding how is the material sourced and sustainability considerations!
We will keep that in mind! Thank you for the suggestion!:)
I like your video, however calling drops ‘a dupe’ implies it’s a lesser yarn than the others, which I don’t agree with.
That is a great point! Thank you for your feedback!:)
Thanks for taking my comment as intended. I really do love all your videos ❤😊
