I want to keep echoing what I've said before on your videos, you are an awesome source of inspiration, I'm sad to see someone thought you were a source for plagiarism. I see so many comments about how people picked up OP-1 because of your inspiring videos, and I'm just one of the lucky few to have done so as well. Sad you have to go through this, but believe me, there's no copy out there that is near as good at this, as you. I know that might not dampen the blow of someone plagiarizing you, but to me it speaks of the strength of what you do - you do with such quality that can only come from living your idea - not simply copying it. In short, I'm with ya 100% on this topic, well spoken!

Both for your excellent body of work, and this careful dissertation on the present topic.
Indeed this not only serves to be informative, but also presents your case well on this matter.

Jeremy, I'm a late 20-something former school-musician who regrets moving away from music discipline and has sworn up and down that I'd get started at making something for years. After I found your channel I was heavily inspired to just get f***ing started. Seeing your techniques and skill made me engage with music learning like I hadn't before.
I'm still working on it - it's really hard when my rusty woodwind fingers are noodles on a keyboard and I'm tired from work, but I'm still working on it. I finally finished my first composition (that I'll never release)! I will fight tooth and nail for that desire to make music that resonates with how I feel.
I just wanted to say, you inspire me. Thank you! Please don't be discouraged. I hope this experience ends up being something that enriches your experience and helps you endure in the future too.
Thanks for being you. Keep up the good work.

    Ace video Jeremy 👍
I find that when I try and copy someone it end's up sounding nothing like what I was trying to copy, so it is just inspiration to make some music in the end, it is just that something that got me started.
If i feel my music sounds like a poor imitation of something I was obsessed with and trying to emulate I usually spend a bit of time listening to 70's dub reggae and 70's punk, this usually gets me out of my rut and makes me forget about what I was obsessed with, point being it could be 60's soul and heavy metal but it makes you move away from the constriction you thought you had.
I find your music hugely inspirational but my music sounds nothing like yours at all, but you quite often give me the urge to turn on my gear and make some noise.

Hey Jeremy, been a fan for about two plus years now. Listening to you discuss a challenging issue like being plagiarized has helped me respect you as a decent human being, more than just a provider of dope, unique content. These conclusions of mine are largely based on your apparent effort to make this video constructive, rationally thought out, and with a achievable call to action at the end. Lastly, I strongly agree on your specific call to action; making the efforts to cite and inform your sources of inspiration for the part they played is, I think, a path that would simply change this music industry for the better, bit by bit, person by person. A much better idea than today's conventional methods of doxing and publicly shaming.
So thank you for pushing up that high road Jeremy. No pressure to make just OP-1 videos, this is your gig and we, the audience get the privilege to watch you perform however you choose.

Thank you for bringing this up, Jeremy. I understand from an artistic perspective it hurts and all, but for your own mental wellbeing you can look at it this way: someone deemed your style so good they copied it. That mere fact proves what you're doing is awesome, and other people like it. So take some pride in it and forget about it. The copycat will always be the copycat, don't worry about that, and they will attract an audience that might not even be your target audience. The ones who know who you are will always be able to tell. Peace out.

To streamline this: Inspiration is taking qualities from someone else's creation and remixing them with other ideas to make something else, yet typically giving credit to the original creator of that idea. Plagiarism is copying qualities from someone else's creation, only tweaking a few things, and taking credit as the original inventor of that creation or idea whether overtly or through a lie of omission.

It can be condensed down enough to be a cheap standalone bite the people will instantly recognise outside of any context.

Schools/universities should reference this. I've known many people who believed paraphrasing isn't plagiarism, while adding nothing of their own to the end product. If you're inspired by something, you should have enough respect for the creator to at least give them a call out. They'll likely be honored that they provided inspiration, and you won't have a shameful shadow hanging over your work.

I will also say that once I realised the videos I was watching were from two different channels, it was clear which was the copycat, even though I'd found his first.

“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to." - Jim Jarmusch

This is such a well referenced and thoughtful video, inspirational in itself. I came for the OP1 videos but stayed for stuff like this :-)

It's kinda ironic, I actually stumbled on this channel from Yuri's Tropic Thunder video, and I ended up here by following the suggested videos and genuinely didn't realize they were separate channels (which I feel like goes to show that it most definitely *is* plagiarism). I most definitely will say that I like this channel muuuuch more and I'm glad I found you here

Well done, Jeremy. I like to think plagiarists never get ahead in the long run. What a vapid life they must lead. Thanks for being a genuine artist. A copy of a copy is nothing 🙌

I was wondering when this was gonna come up. You inspired me to buy an op1 and share it’s magical-ness with as many people as I can! It’s terrible that someone would take your formula and pervert it with just making beats around a sample and calling it good. It’s not even close to the work you put in to your music. People will do anything to make a quick buck I guess...
Thank you for being an inspiration to many of us!

Miss your OP-1 videos. Your captions had way more charisma and watching you experiment with tones to build a track was really inspiring. Genuinely! I still watch all of yours.
Its so easy to get overwhelmed by the plethora of sounds we have available to us in this digital world. It's so easy to get paralyzed by all of those options and never complete a project. Seeing your method of experimenting with tones makes it seem so much less daunting. Just make the sounds, commit, and move on to the next project. That's my biggest take away form your content anyway.
    Thank you for the inspiration!

Red means recording, that's why I'm here and I saw his videos once or twice yes, but it's dull and soulless. Please don't be discouraged you're one of the most creative people I know, just after me of course ;P Love ya !
    Red means subscribed!

Jeremy. I don’t want to lie to you, I watched his OP-1 videos (never subbed but it was in my recommended), just because i like OP-1 videos, ofc, and couldn’t resist not watching them. At the same time, I realized this, glad you spoke about it and so he stops this and apologize. I hope you keep your channel active (i also have to admit i didn’t have more videos to watch from u and that’s when i started watching everyone else’s LOL) hahaha but definitely congrats for your channel, you’re definitely the true hero and plagiarism is definitely not a good ting. You deserve the best, love u and ur wholesomeness! We will keep supporting you and hoping for new music from u!

One of my composition teachers has a technique based around this- basically, he starts playing an existing song then improvises on that until it's entirely original and there's something you like in there

Funny thing is is that the Tropic Thunder remix from Yuri was like the first ob-1 video i saw and what got me hooked to the type of video style i guess you could say. Searched ob-1 on CZcams and Red Means Recording pops up and loved the funny and great music. Became a Sub instantly. And in all honesty I thought that Yuri just took one of your videos and re uploaded it on his channel. It is sad to hear that you want to stray away from the ob-1 but am excited to hear what you can create in the future. Props to you man.
P.S. Aquamarine where the dancing guy came from behind the machine made me die XD

I had no idea. I started watching you after the OP-1 videos apparently. When you put up the footage, I was like, "oh shit, that's Yuri".
Thanks for sharing your experience. I think with the impersonal nature of the internet and everyone scrambling for that "partner" status in the spotlight, it's easy to lose a degree of humanity and common decency.
It's harder than it's ever been to be original and easier than it's ever been to plagiarize. I'm sorry this happened to you. Keep kickin ass, brother. ✌️

The TE PO series brought me to your channel, but your genuineness, attitude of discovery, and music made me a subscriber. Yuri sucks. You don't. Thanks for being awesome.
