love this song. This is one of the only renditions of the original that i actually like and give Lennon's song justice. I love Lennon and I love A Perfect Circle.
I so much love this version.Makes me melancholic and little sad but keeps me focused on really important things in life. We all are humans no matter on religion, color, political thoughts or whatever. We just have to know how to live together with peace and cooperation.
This was sung at my grandfather's memorial service today. I'm never going to listen to this song the same way ever again, but it was very appropriate for him :)
in interviews maynard has stated that he chose this sound/ style based on the fact that he believed lennon would be very depressed with the direction the world went and this would be him singing it after 20 years. i like them both, lennon's ver is more up beat and optimistic and this is just the other side of that coin. it fits.
This cover gives me goosebumps. It is so much darker than the original version. But the world has got darker in the last 30 years... What a shame people are not taking John Lennons advice and living as one. Such simple advice. Anyway, good job Full Circle :)
I think if a band is going to do a cover, this should be the standard for which the cover artist should aim for. All covers should be this awesome of a reinvention of the original.
alors moi je dis chapeau!!!!!cette reprise garde la magie de la musique originale tout en visitant une autre sphere, oui c est le mot opportun, elle me transporte ailleurs!!!magnifique
Lennon was the inspiration! The original. I love this version only because i know that the inspiration is pure and true. Its spreading the word of peace and love. Its one person's dream that is spreading among generations.
I always thought john's version was dark in its own way. like all his songs have a air about them that makes them feel so hopeless and dissociative, this just takes it to another level, holy shit..
Lol I like this version...you'd imagine a band like APC or Tool covering John Lennon would be pretty weird. But Maynard has this way of making his covers HIS OWN and with his own creativity, and the covers turn out to be fresh and new.
Ive thought about this song and what came to me was ... it doesn't matter what your beliefs are... its not beliefs that separate us.. Its when we say your wrong and i'm right. I just dont like beliefs that hurt other people but one day i hope to let that go too cause i cant control others..other then that. i'm startin to like everyone's beliefs.. It makes this world that more colorful.
A Perfect Circle's sound represents our CONTINUED dissatisfaction with modern life and philosophy, and the failures of human civilization as a whole. This reimagining of the song does not necessarily make it any less ideal, nor more real; but I like to think of it as the final warning to a new generation that they were not born into an ideal world and that we self proclaimed dreamers need to seek out others that care as we do -- this is difficult and may take a lifetime to realize.
This version makes the lyrics sound horrific and dangerous! Makes me reconsider whether the ideas in "Imagine" are actually good, or whether it depends on your perspective. Getting rid of a lot of those things would be horrifying to many many people around the world, while being hopeful to others. Very interesting.
Maynard takes a classic and makes it his own. Taking it from the happy times when it was made to the dismal times we are going through right now. MJK has his finger on the pulse \m/
You may be right, I must say I like THAT idea much better! As of recently I've spoken with many people from many nations and faith traditions about a common interest. We've discussed philosophy without it getting heated because we recognize our different viewpoints, but don't see them as reason to get mad at each other.
Not necessarily. I was raised to never believe in an afterlife, but the first person who got me to wonder if one existed was my best friend who was and still is an atheist. His view was that energy cannot be created or destroyed, so since we made up of energy, we never really cease to exist. That energy has to go somewhere, and the only question now is where does it go and what happens to it. When he broke it down to me like that it cracked my entire belief system.
I love both versions quite a bit. The APC version is more powerful to me, but Lennon's is more pure and simpler. Both masterpieces though, it's shocking how good this cover is.
Well also i want to say that the way perfect circle makes this "song of hope and love" sound so disharmonic, is much more suiting to the theme and word chosen. In a world were there is nothing to defend nothing to believe in, its not worth living as a human. Its a god damn dire world. I dont believe in religions but i do still believe in ways of living and yes, war is something that people somehow cant let go off and need. Justin does have a point here.
Stop arguing. The entire purpose of this song is to learn to accept our differences and make progress into a new world, where difference doesn't matter.
It reflects the times. Let's face it, when Lennon composed it, the worlds was a lot more peaceful. Now, the dreams Lennon had, of a world united by love and peace, is farther away than ever. Economic collapses due to corporate greed, governments content to sit back and only act when things go wrong, and a middle east in near constant turmoil. So its only natural this song is darkened to reflect that.
Song reminds me of my time in Iraq. We hardwired an iPod into the coms of our Stryker. Sitting in a dark field observing a town all night and listening to this song. Haunting times.
I know a lot of people don't like this version because "nothing can be better than the original" or something along those lines, but in my opinion APC did the song justice. They didn't butcher it like a lot of bands do when they remake a classic.
Beautiful song. Amazing cover. It's interesting to see so many people in an uproar over it still to this day. I consider it a reminder that we will never reach any goals envisioned by this song. I think mankind is doomed to fizzle out existence like some bad fart of the cosmos, I just hope I'm around to see it happen.
I think there's an interesting contrast between this version and John Lennon's original, I don't know if anyone share the same opinion. It feels like one version is sung/played by someone who believed in change and in living in a better world. The other, more contemporary, seems to come from someone who wants change and a better world but as lost the hope to see it happen. I just think it's an interesting contrast between eras.
most people who say things like 'what an insult on the origional' and the like, the way i see it is that the sincerest form of flattery and that at least the person doin the cover is DOING something as opposed to tearing shit down!
looking at the other side of this song made me realize there is no peace. people crying and dying in pain or being abused. i realize that this world is already hell to all of us.
you know you guys dont have to be here.. you dont have to argue you dont even have to log in and put yourself in a bad mood. this music is here to cleanse our souls man.. and some of you are taking it for granted.
My mom, a huge fan of Lennon and his original, heard this and said it sounded like a funeral dirge. I thought, how appropriate to my generation. While Lennon was filled with hope for a movement that promised to change humanity for its own sake, we've seen those same lovers turn to CEOs, politicians, and lackies. We've seen our own even-larger protests outright ignored, while we push death tolls for money and oil, while society polarizes ever further. All we have left that we can do is mourn.
john lenon wrote a beautiful song but when my favorite singersang it i fell in love. it lets you know just how mutch some people really do need to find anguish beyond hell
I'm glad to see proper, civilised and interesting discussions going on down there =) Instead of people being ignorant, swearing and being idiotic. It's a nice change =P
I can see why some fans of Lennon would really dislike this rendition. Personally I really like both versions and although they are the song, it's really unfair to compare the two to each other as they are both in their own universe.
@Rikuji20 I agree. I feel that Lennon's is like 'Look what we can do, look what we can achieve!' And APC's version is more like 'Look what we could of had.'
Indeed. When Lennon was writing this, he probably wanted to tell everyone how bright the future will be. People living for the sake of the mankind. But when he would write it today, he would throw the text out of the window and say "That shit is never going to happen - everyone is and will live for his own sake."
The fact that this one is more depressing than the original makes me smile because Its like seeing a different perspective on life, Kind of like a yin and yang. Now remix the two, might sound badass.
I love Lennon's original, but I definitely like this version better. It's just that sound of A Perfect Circle that makes so nice sounding. It's almost as if this song was written just for them to sing.
@onshrooms420 If you think about it. It's actually perfect, because in 2000 things were looking grim compared to the placid, universal, progressive 60,70&80's. Every child born today is the future, right? But with a definable answer to what's in store for the future this music reflects that imagery. Imagine a world..
It's not about communism, idiots. It's about love. He's not saying that you shouldn't have possessions or religions, he's not saying we should all be equal. He's saying to imagine a world without divisions between people, and to imagine a world without hatred. Lennon did mention that this song was the "Communist Manifesto", but he also stated that he is not a Communist. It's not about politics, it's about love. Unconditional love for your fellow man, regardless of differences.
Some people need to know how to just listen to the song im not about to read evrything yall are saying because it is just way to much and not worth reading just stop take a breath and enjoy this master piece
im not a judgmental type so im going to go ahead and say that this is a decent cover song!!! i think they brought the diversity in and let it shine out? in other words, they rocked it! will be adding to my alternative collection! :) night party people
"No hell below us, above us only sky." Yes because hell is here on Earth and heaven is only a state of mind. I swear this song is describing the afterlife.
I see your point..no song is better than the originators who created them. The ones as lennon felt the song as it was a peice of him, and then shouted out to the world a part of his thoughts within.
The world would be better, if we all just lived for the day every day, not worrying about going to hell nor heaven, no sweating about church, or being someone your not, being kind, being yourself, and creating a better yourself and others.
Amazing, absolutely amazing! If it wasn't blasphemy I'd say I like this better than the original, but of course it is blasphemy so I won't. There is definitely something in the Maynard version that resonates with me though.
I completely agree with everything you said... except "it only brings hate". i think that far too many people use religion and god as an excuse to hate and a way to validate their own selfish and prejudice believes. but i have seen first hand the belief in god pull someone out of the darkest time in their life and allow them to keep going. i myself am not very religious but i completely support others being religious as long as they use their spirituality to help themselves and not hurt others.
Imagine a world without these pointless youtube arguments! As Ninja Man1997 said, this is an amazing song whether it's Maynard or John singing, everyone has their opinions, there's no need to make World War 3 out of it. (which is doing the exact opposite of what the song's message is.) I personally I enjoyed this cover, a different feel to the song, and I really do enjoy Maynard and James Iha's work.
They took a masterpiece and transformed it into a sweet darkness... Brilliant...
incredibly beautiful musical arrangement !
I love these version! He never let's me down. As much as I love his voice on TOOL, A PERFECT CIRCLE brings an other side of him
This rendition of Lennon's song is sickly intense! So strong in what it proclaims, kudos!
I think John Lennon would love this version.
So do I. I also think he'd like "Mark David Chapman" by MSI. A lesson to everyone to enjoy music with impunity.
Good job Maynard! You really put a lot of work into this!
well no shit...thx for correcting me though
the greatest interpretation of lennon's song i have ever heard. they make it their own, really.
love this song. This is one of the only renditions of the original that i actually like and give Lennon's song justice. I love Lennon and I love A Perfect Circle.
above us only sky..
Can I suck the sweetcorn outta your shit, Brenda?
JoeyLysergic
You must really like sweetcorn.
Steini Pétur Yes, he must be some sort of enthusiast.
What? I have a hobby. Sue me!
JoeyLysergic Hey, I'm not judging you. While I don't much care for pre-eaten food myself, it's your hygiene, and your business.
It's amazing how changing the tone of the song, and the way the lyrics are sung can almost completely change the song's meaning.
I so much love this version.Makes me melancholic and little sad but keeps me focused on really important things in life. We all are humans no matter on religion, color, political thoughts or whatever. We just have to know how to live together with peace and cooperation.
This was sung at my grandfather's memorial service today. I'm never going to listen to this song the same way ever again, but it was very appropriate for him :)

god i love this version of imagine. lennon may have wrote it and i love the original as well but apc put life into this song.
You know who you are.
.. A brotherhood of men. Strong words from a white man in the 60's. Ultimate respect. And this version hits the soul.
Powerful....strong and so beautiful....Maynard's performance still awesome
This Song makes me wanna cry its beautiful thank you!! Perfect Circle !!! =D Love this song!! ♥
This cover gives me goosebumps.
It is so much darker than the original version.
But the world has got darker in the last 30 years...
What a shame people are not taking John Lennons advice and living as one.
Such simple advice.
Anyway, good job Full Circle :)
This is the first song I ever played on the drums...nice to hear Maynard sing it..thx mjk
I think if a band is going to do a cover, this should be the standard for which the cover artist should aim for. All covers should be this awesome of a reinvention of the original.
Its the harmonys that make them goosebumps pop up! I Love this song!
I think the band did a great job with this, since the band rearranged lennon's interpretation. What a great band

Parabéns ...ai no outro plano.......
best cover, I´ve ever listened to...
I love, how he brings such a feeling in this song! Well done!
Maynard sure is fuckin awesome. He's one of those singers that will probably only come around once or twice in a lifetime.
Lol I like this version...you'd imagine a band like APC or Tool covering John Lennon would be pretty weird. But Maynard has this way of making his covers HIS OWN and with his own creativity, and the covers turn out to be fresh and new.

This is a REALLY cool rendering of John Lennon's song. I love it.

i totally agree. if we all loved eachother, there wouldn't be so much war
Maynard takes a classic and makes it his own. Taking it from the happy times when it was made to the dismal times we are going through right now. MJK has his finger on the pulse \m/
Fantastic song, great band...
Great song, great cover.. Take the lyrics to heart.
I really like this cover. It has such a different, almost sinister take on the original.
You may be right, I must say I like THAT idea much better! As of recently I've spoken with many people from many nations and faith traditions about a common interest. We've discussed philosophy without it getting heated because we recognize our different viewpoints, but don't see them as reason to get mad at each other.
Before you all think this is there song ITS NOT, its John Lennon, One of the greatest artists of all time!

Perfect Circle did a exceptional job on this song
that's the best cover from a song I've ever heard
all this song was missing was a good singer, and now we got one :)
I totally love this song. I like the original and all, but this one I LOVE.
This is taking John Lennon brilliance ripping out his soul replacing it with a devil and forcing it to sing
Love it
love this cover
Simply > Best cover composition i have ever heard so far,... Salute you with respect...

Great song, I wish every band makes as good music as APC.
Song reminds me of my time in Iraq. We hardwired an iPod into the coms of our Stryker. Sitting in a dark field observing a town all night and listening to this song. Haunting times.

this song gives me goosebumps! excellent, imo this is better than the original
This version is my favorite because it leaves me with no hope. It is despair set to music and it rips out my guts every time I hear it.
l'interprétation est très spéciale ! super bon travail !

Nothing's better then Lennon. This IS a very close second.
Essa música tem uma mensagem ótima! Na voz do Maynard ficou muito foda!

@Rikuji20 I agree. I feel that Lennon's is like 'Look what we can do, look what we can achieve!' And APC's version is more like 'Look what we could of had.'
I think that this version and Lennon's are equal. Lennon's is hope, A Perfect Circle's is warning. I like them both, equally.
Indeed.

To be perfectly honest, I like this cover more than the original.
Best damn cover of Imagine I've ever heard
It's not about communism, idiots.

im not a judgmental type so im going to go ahead and say that this is a decent cover song!!! i think they brought the diversity in and let it shine out? in other words, they rocked it! will be adding to my alternative collection! :) night party people
"No hell below us, above us only sky." Yes because hell is here on Earth and heaven is only a state of mind. I swear this song is describing the afterlife.
One of the best songs, when I say that, the one John Lennon sang but this is still a good version
amazing cover
You are very correct my friend, I think that is exactly what went threw Maynard mind before he helped create this song.
I see your point..no song is better than the originators who created them. The ones as lennon felt the song as it was a peice of him, and then shouted out to the world a part of his thoughts within.
I still prefer this one to the Lennon version. It just brings to mind a post-apocalyptic world, where we're struggling to survive.
The world would be better, if we all just lived for the day every day, not worrying about going to hell nor heaven, no sweating about church, or being someone your not, being kind, being yourself, and creating a better yourself and others.

Gives me chills down the spine
I really didnt know this was a cover but this song is freaken epic! lol
WOW! Either you were listening to a COMPLETELY different song or you have ABSOLUTELY no idea what totalitarianism is!
I agree! It's almost as if APC are being ironic about it :') It's amazing.
Imagine a world without these pointless youtube arguments!

Nothing is better than the original until Maynard touches it.
This version is more apealing to me than john lennons. Its one of those rare ocassions that a cover is better.
