In case you or anyone else hasnt figured the hook (curve) fully out. You need to roll the joycon kind of. No swinging to the side or anything, just a twist in your wrist/arm while staying in a straight throwing motion. From testing even the slightest movement gives hook, but you can crank your wrist about 135° (if you twist your arm with it), but the ball only spins much for about 90° of wrist movement
