He was super fit an athlete, quick and scored incredible goals. And as a kid growing up in the early 60,s the names Law Best & Charlton were the players to go watch . And in my view one of the greatest era's of english football. And in those years their were a lot of great players around.

I am from Manchester but a blue.Law's first season with the Reds was superb. Was it 46 goals he scored in season 62/ 63? His name was on the score sheet every week,to the Blues disgust.I agree with you that he had 5 or 6 seasons where he was effective but I think from then on he was just a shadow of his former self.Denis,as well, had no particular "love" for the game ,and hardly ever watched it on telly,or live. When England were winning the world he was playing golf at Chorlton Golf Course. He always said that the games was a way of earning a living to him and when a match was over he went home and shut the door on it.I think he is just the same now.His daughter recently said he only lasts about 5 minutes when he tries to watch a game then the fidgeting takes over.I have heard similar from several ex- pros in retirement ,about themselves. But Denis was so spectacular he was worth a watch every game.

Denis Law had a fondness for this 1967 Home Championship match with the World champions England at Wembley in April 1967 which counted as a Nations Cup tie.
Law then 27 always love to recall this match at Wembley as it was on that day that England's unbeaten 19 match streak came to an end.
Law together with Jim Baxter were in their element as they taunted and teased the English defence.England had to play with a man short as Ray Wilson was injured and lanky Jackie Charlton carrying an injury.
Denis Law had this undying hatred for England. He was playing that afternoon when he heard that England had beaten West Germany in extra time to win the World Cup at Wembley."It should have been us,"Law quipped in a moment of regret of what might have been had Scotland beaten Italy in the World Cup playoff.Law like the rest of his team mates were not convinced and impressed by England's World Cup victory.
He told England's goalkeeper Gordon Banks after Scotland had scalped the world champions at Wembley,"Gordon son, come here.Try some of our mayonaisse.Oh yes, since we have beaten you are not we the unofficial world champions?".Banks was rattled but took it in good heart.
Yes to Denis Law that 3-2 triumph at Wembley in April 1967 was the proudest moment of his international career. That year too he won the League championship with Manchester United but his outstanding performance against England in 1967 is still a living memory forever etched in Scottish football folklore

Yes, a year after that he had his knee operation and missed the European cup final. He was still an excellent player after but not quite the same. He was with Jimmy Greaves probably/possibly the two greatest British goal scorers. But both missed out on their big moment - Greaves with England and the world cup. That's why I think both are not quite appreciated as highly as they should be.

@@nev7711 Big business has ensured that only those at the top now will stay there. It's just a series of soulless franchises with international short-term contract men playing for obscene wealth. When Celtic won the European Cup in 1967, the entire team were local lads. Dundee United have beaten Barcelona four times, twice in the 1960s, and again in the 1980s. Their neighbours Dundee reached the European Cup semi-final in 1962 and now both teams are in a lower league. It is appreciated Nev but times have changed. It looks like the movies now, all whizzy with perfect pitches but it it costs the same as a night at the opera and the players couldn't give a toss about where the club is. Tavy@ i have read comments scotland beat england who had 10 men. Am sure a counted 22 men on the field. And if an english player is walking about injured then so what he shouldnt play at that level if he cant handle the hard men with great skill. And the 1966 world cup? I have read in dozens of books and denis laws too a read and i wasnt shocked to read in great account and detail that it was rigged for england to win it. England in england had to win it, with every game they played in the 4 weeks being at wembley was a big hint strait away and i was only age 11 when i saw that years later. That just doesnt happen in world cups. And pele being booted out of the tournament then corrupt final match with the dodgy referee and linesman that from 30 yards away and a post in front of him but he still said the whole ball crossesd the line. Al put it an easier way, when geoff hurst hit the crossbar and it bounced on the line and out again as we know, how could a lines man in a split second know that hursts shot was going to hit the bar at a fast speed then know it was going to bounce strait down the way and onto the line and have is eyes already focused on that ball coming down so fast. If geoff hurst didnt know that was going to happen then how the fck could a lines man know? And then to say it was a goal but he couldnt possibly have saw it becouse its so clear it didnt cross the line. Total pish!!! It was a bad world cup. Well it was in london what do ye expect with that load in dodgy suits.
