- Guinness World Records has dismissed a Ghanaian chef’s attempt to break the world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, her team says.
In January, Failatu Abdul-Razak appeared to have broken the world record after cooking non-stop for more than 227 hours.
The co-ordinator of Abdul-Razak’s challenge, Kafui Dey, on Sunday said that her attempt at breaking the record “unfortunately fell short of meeting the stringent guidelines set forth by Guinness World Records”. - Zábava

Not sure if this is a global issue or more specific to Ghanaians, but the trend of copying rather than innovating is concerning. Baci is a great example of someone who planned and succeeded, especially visible after her cookathon, now running an academy. Copying others can lead to legal issues in some places. We've seen many 'thons' in Ghana with vague aims. After the singathon, what lasting impact was made, especially when the person isn't even in the music industry? Faila's attempt was commendable but lacked success, possibly due to insufficient planning. This habit of mimicking others without adding anything new is really disappointing, suggesting a lack of fresh ideas.
I personally feel like there’s more to her disqualification than just the rest breaks and she probably doesn’t want to share that and it’s okay. Because they would have deducted her hours and still kept her.
I think people attempting to try a record of the Guinness Record needs to consult them first and invite a member from the Guinness board to access their procedures before starting.... Why start when no member of the GBR is present
They provide the guidelines in the application. There is no need for somebody to be present if all the rules and regulations are apart of the package. The GWR record website has instructions along with pictures on where to access the regulation. It is a simple google search.
The rules and regulations are all in the application for people to read and/or print out. It is not necessary for someone from GWR to pull up when the material is easily accessible. This is the fault of the contestants, the instructions can easily be searched online.

Scanty, if I may clarify, regarding Hilda, she made her mistakes in the beginning according to her. So all the hours she did before the mistake in the breaks wasn’t counted. So maybe Faila’s own was multiple or in the middle. So in that case, maybe they discounted all that and she probably fell short of the hours. Just my thoughts

The reason Hilda wasn’t disqualified was when her mistake happened. She did a video on it. If the mistake she made happened 2 days into the cooking she wouldn’t get it. The deducted all the hours before the mistake happened they didn’t just deduct from anything.

I keep saying you don’t have to make it a cook-a-thon for it to be relevant. We have some content creators who cook for the homeless or people in a community. They do good deeds, encourage people to do good, remember others there is still good in the world and lastly get content and viewers who can aid them raise funds from monetizing their platform. Sheldon, GWR explained why she was disqualified. It was because of non compliance with the rest and break rules. They were specific. So then, we must look at the rules and why they didn’t comply. I think it is because of lack of discipline on their parts. You must follow the rules to the letter. If other people have been able to do it, Ghanaians can also do it. The difference is discipline in complying with the rules and regulations of the game. My $1 though.

I disagree with Sheldon. I think like him, a lot of people view previous and ongoing GWR attempts from Africa as mere "clout chasing trends" and "cheap hype". According to the Guinness World Records, their core mission is" to inspire individuals and organizations globally by celebrating extraordinary achievements and fostering a spirit of curiosity and discovery." It is simply an avenue for individuals across the world to showcase their abilities and for the world to celebrate human excellence. Many extraordinary individuals from across the world have honored this great platform for many years. Why are we now trying to downplay the efforts of our own countrymen and women in doing same? The negativity stemming from some Ghanaians and Africans on the internet appears to be a classic case of projection-projecting our lack of self belief, curiosity and confidence on our Ghanaian and African brothers and sisters. These courageous ones deserve better, and we can all do better.
