Mark Knopfler is on my Mt Rushmore of musical artists. Dire Straits is one of my most loved bands. Brothers in Arms, is my very favorite of their songs. I didn't think it was possible to create a version, that would come near theirs. I was wrong ❤️
These guys are singing as dead soldiers mourning their death. Tim is portraying a man's Spirit about to leave the earth. It's like a dirge to honor the dead.
This is probably my favourite Dire Straits song, because of its lyrics, its message, and the haunting guitar of Knopfler. Like you, I'm not gonna make comparisons here or choose which is best. They're both different and both fantastic. This Home Free version feels like a prayer, it's like being at a church service... And you're listening to an emotional, heart-wrenching, dark sermon you maybe did not really want to hear, but it is one you needed to hear.
I’ve been trying to put into words how this version of the song makes me feel, but haven’t been able to. You just did it for me. What you said is exactly how it makes me feel. So thank you.
The song is a masterpiece of Home Free. The fantastic harmonies, on point. And then the voices of Tim and Chance, phenomenal. But Tim's super low tones make for an absolutely perfect goosebump feeling, what a voice - wow ! Great reaction!
Yes, this version of Home Free will send shivers through your entire body! This is so emotional. Beautifully sung by Tim and Chance, but the background and harmony of Adam, Rob and Austin is also so amazing. It looks like a choir or actually a kind of church organ sounds. And the whole setting of the video is just amazing. Simple but with so many details that makes it so profound
The Finnish a capella group Club For Five did the a capella arrangement. Tim of Home Free added the echoes. Yes, quite haunting. A good song to reflect on this Veterans Day/ Remembrance Day. Good, respectful reaction.
This is so haunting. This arrangement was created by the Danish group Club for Five. Their version is also haunting, although quite different from this one. Definitely worth a listen.
The haunting harmonies and ghostly videography, brilliantly captured the deep heartbreak of war. This takes your breath away. Excellent reaction as always, Harry.
Just a perfect song for today. To make us go back in time to try to understand the actual feelings and that powerful link of their brotherhood. Home Free does this beautifully. But I prefer the Dire Straits version. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Shala. Perfect for today. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Yes, not gonna make comparisons as others have said. It's all good to honor the veterans around the world. I do miss Knopflers guitar work but I had never heard this version before so thank you Harri for a beautiful tribute to our planets veterans who have sacrificed so much.
This is hauntingly beautiful. Loved Tim’s low notes. Loved the echoes. Tim and Chance looked ghost like in the windows. So good and I loved your reaction!🥰
Thanks, Harris, for reacting to this on our U.S. Veterans' Day; it is such a fitting tribute to our service members 🇺🇲 and to all others who have sacrificed in service to their country. Home Free always pays appropriate respect in their covers--especially to the content! Their talent is amazing--and I LOVE their glorious 5-part harmony❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥
FYI..Chris Stapleton dropped a new number a couple days ago. Its a cover of the song ..I'm A Ram.. originally done by the great Al Green and now covered by the great Chris Stapleton😊you won't believe how good it is!
When military units are able to function in orderly, progressive and forward moving actions, things work out successfully. That’s not what always happens.
What a wonderful version. I also like Celtic Thunder version. This is such a powerful song. Great request. Harri your analysis was spot on. Their voices take you to a haunting place. To me it sounds so reverent. I think I will listen again.
I'm a huge Home Free fan as well. Please check out Tim Foust, from Home Free, along with Peter Hollens doing their cover of "Misty Mountains". It's so powerful, it literally gives one the chills. Thank you for having a great channel. I truly enjoy it.
Just wanted to drop a few lines to let you know how much I enjoy watching your reactions in various genres; love your home free reactions- especially this one; between it & helplessly hoping, i get the vibe of their harmonies as a pipe organ; also loved your reaction to Cab Calloway & the Nicholas Brothers “Jumpin Jive”; would like to make a comment on your wanting to be in that era-music wise yes, however, the more overt racism is not something I think that you would have enjoyed-being a 70+ year old white lady, I was taught to judge people by their actions, not the color of their skin& I am ashamed at how anyone who was not a white male was treated; sorry for being long winded & getting on my soapbox, but I had to finally let you know how much I enjoy your reactions; have a great rest of the wool, take care & stay safe, peace & hugs. 🤗🤗🥰🥰❤️❤️☮️☮️🎼🎼
Each time I think I know the talents of this band they surprise me again! As regards war I view it as an antiquated and often short-lived effort to assert dominance.
I absolutely love experiencing music (and videos) with you ... whether they are new to me or ones that I know. Your reactions are so good, so true, so honest ... I just love it. Thank you so much. God bless you.
There is nothing Home Free can't perform brilliantly. This is one of their meticulously crafted art pieces. Haunting and emotionally charged. Great reaction.
Home Free they are my favorite group. They could sing the ABC or Twinkle Twinkle little star and make it sound wonderful. The song was beautiful and the scenery made me cry. If you ever have a chance to go to one of their shows GO. I did, as a gift to myself for my Birthday. So wonderful I kept reliving it and couldn't sleep, but I would do it all again.
Yes, it is so powerful !!! And I could also see a battlefield with bodies everywhere. I get chills each time I listen to this. Home Free is unmatched with their harmonies.
The on screen lyrics said, "...through the fear and alone you did not desert mey brothers in arms...." Correctly, it should be, "...fear and ALARM... brothers in arms...."
I see the lowlands of England spread out before me from the hills of Wales I think. Then the terrible battlefields of Ukraine and the men videoing from their dugouts. The ghosts accepting and welcoming the new soul.
Thanks for your reaction, glad to be subscribed to your channel. Have you reacted to HF Travelin' Soldier yet? You will probably like it, also "Undivided". Be well.
I have always loved this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome along with Chance's smooth baritone & loved it when all the guys were doing 5 part harmonies. Who would believe humming could sound so good. They gave it a very solemn feeling. These guys are my favorite a cappella group out there.
Lok at the way the light passes through the singers and filtered light makes them look almost ghostly. I have heard it said that these are the words of a fallen soldier. I sense it is not. The horror of war has little changed for centuries. This is not the voice of a fallen, it is the voice of all nations' fallen over the centuries questioning the need for war
Home Free does Justice to this song.
Considered one of Home Free’s masterpieces. The haunting harmonies, dynamics and visuals are powerful. Thankful for all who served and are serving.
Everything I've heard from them is a masterpiece .

Home Free being acapella has to use their voices as there are no instruments...they do this masterfully & reverently. A true Home Free classic
I can't get over how much five men can sound like a pipe organ...
These guys are singing as dead soldiers mourning their death. Tim is portraying a man's Spirit about to leave the earth. It's like a dirge to honor the dead.
This version of this song is a masterpiece. So emotional
Thank you for your reaction.

I agree 💯%! I've often said that it makes me feel like I'm standing on Holy Ground.♥️🍟

I was in the United States Marine Corps and the most touching part of those lyrics was, ”you did not desert me my brothers in arms.”
This is so haunting. This arrangement was created by the Danish group Club for Five. Their version is also haunting, although quite different from this one. Definitely worth a listen.
Club for Five is a Finnish Acappella group.
Home free is great
The haunting harmonies and ghostly videography, brilliantly captured the deep heartbreak of war. This takes your breath away. Excellent reaction as always, Harry.
Wonderful reaction, Harri. The group Home Free can only elevate whatever song they sing
The Home Free interpretation of a soldier’s last words is almost too painfully beautiful!
One of their best pieces ... a master class in harmony !
Taking a masterpiece song and raising it to the next level of a masterpiece
Just a perfect song for today. To make us go back in time to try to understand

As a Vietnam combat vet, this song still brings me to tears. These men are so talented and Knopfler perfectly captured the emotion when he wrote it!
Great tribute to one of Mark's most influential songs .

Haunting, Mesmerizing, Magical and a Beautiful Masterpiece
If Homefree didn't do covers I would have never heard this song. Hauntly beautiful.
This is hauntingly beautiful. Loved Tim’s low notes. Loved the echoes. Tim and Chance looked ghost like in the windows. So good and I loved your reaction!🥰
Glad they gave Chance the spotlight, he's usually in the background but man can he sing.
Powerful tribute to fallen soldiers. 😢

This is amazing. Home Free does an incredible job. Very touching and sad.
I have never heard this song, it is so touching. I have only respect for those that have paid so much to protect our country. God bless them all.
YO HARRI!!! Only 18 Hundred to go for 100 Thousand!! Almost there, CONGRATS!!
The background chords they use in this one always remind me of a pipe organ. It's amazing the texture you can get from well-blended voices!
Breathtaking piece!
I do love some of Home Frees songs but I also love this by Dire Straits.
FYI..Chris Stapleton dropped a new number a couple days ago. Its a cover of the song ..I'm A Ram.. originally done by the great Al Green and now covered by the great Chris Stapleton😊you won't believe how good it is!
When Adam Chance you did not desert me My Brothers in Arms it gets me.
We are fools to make war on our brothers in arms.
Hauntingly beautiful. Just voices

The low baritone/bass voice is amazing….. but the idea of what the song is about is quite profound

A masterpiece from Home Free!! Chance, Rob, Tim, Austin and Adam!! Only band I ever listen to!! They have about 150 videos!! All genres!

So haunting.🥺❤
You put it into words..."haunting and powerful"...
Glad you reacted to this. One of theiir best.
I’m so glad you knew the Dire Straits version. It’s a powerful song. Thank you for your reaction. I subscribed.

A masterpiece. Tears come each time I hear this. Such feelings they put into it haunting melody.
One of my favorite Dire Straits songs and wonderfully arranged by Home Free. Love it!
Yes...the battlefields...
speaks to me and my heart!

Another great acapella group is VOCES8. Check out "Sleep"
This is a brilliant piece of work. So amazing.
This song makes me feel so incredibly sad.
Love you so much
Tim Foust is the bass
Listen to the HM ROYAL MARINE cover as it is about them in the Falklands
Actually, I believe that Dire Straits (May their tribe increase.) covered Home Free. DS does a lot of great videos of their take on this.
The on screen lyrics said, "...through the fear and alone you did not desert mey brothers in arms...."
Correctly, it should be, "...fear and ALARM... brothers in arms...."
When covering Knoffler ,you must be better than good , you must be excellent . Thats why few try .
❤😊
Home Free also has a sad video you can watch also
I would like to here Mark's comment on this cover .
He and DS are rarely covered ,much less covered well .
Marks story telling ability is often underrated compared to his guitar work . This shows how fantastic he really is .
❤️❤️
Home free's version I could literally see it being in the Lord of the Rings.
I see the lowlands of England spread out before me from the hills of Wales I think. Then the terrible battlefields of Ukraine and the men videoing from their dugouts. The ghosts accepting and welcoming the new soul.

Harri..are those good headphones u wear? Highly recommended?
War makes big bucks, unfortunately!
I'm owed 7 songs. Harri. Why won't you answer me? You took my money but did not play 7 songs. I call that theft
I dig the low voice of the first singer but overall this version is just ok. The original is waaaaaaay more better!
Wow. That is terrible.
It hurts to hear it butchered like this.
Apparently your version of music appreciation is the soundtrack from a Loony Tunes cartoon!
