    You sure this isn't in a raid config with your other drives?
    4:48 "Optimize drive usage to spread existing data across all drives" this and the resiliency and the size settings that comes next sounds alot like putting it in a raid config with your other drives but I'm a total noob at these stuff so I dunno, it would explain the speed performance you get though.
    I usually find, add and manage drives through Windows Disk Management.
    You can get to it by right clicking start button and then click Disk Management.
    I am gonna leave these links here for further explaination of what raid does:

    I have one, and the drive it actually very slow if you are moving either multiple files or files over the size of a couple of GBytes. This is because it uses a buffer memory to write copied data onto temporarily, but if you go to task manager to view the performance, you will see that the drive is still working (copying from buffer to disc) for some much longer time after the files have copied in windows. If you try to copy larger files that exceed the buffer memory, then the data gets queued and actually then becomes the real speed of the drive for writing.

    Real speed of this drive 190-200Mbs in Crystal Disk
    FileCopy speed ~140mbs on the outer zone
    You have that speed because of using a few disks via disk pool. You should initialize disk with Hard Disk Management tool

      I was shocked when I seen more than 450 mb/s on sata cable. Even ssds can't do that on sata.

    You should try more different tests and also use different file sizes. SATAIII max speed of the interface is 600MB/s.

      @@MXDOUT looking forward to it :) if you still own this drive it would be fun with an investigation how an SMR drive performs in all different scenarios. Seeing as most of us are scared of buying one now when we know its inferior to CMR. However in regular cases it might be OK anyway.

    I noticed the same thing the older 120/140 model is 7200rpm 64mb buffer (same as 500gb,1 and 3tb), the newer 220/240 is 5400rpm 128mb..
    But which one is better performing? I guess 220/240 are less noisy and more efficient, energy wise..
    btw in the video some drives were probably in raid, his SSD cached memory and acted as a buffer, hence the speed.

    @maryjonzezulon3092 Před rokem

    You did not test speed of one new hardrive but whole storage pool. Thats why output of all those testing was so awkward. :) I suppose. Or you could have read those big video files before and they all left in cache of whole RAM. But it is not that obvious to me. First idea is more probable.

      @MXDOUT  Před 4 lety

      Its not fake, but I still don't know were those speeds came from and I try to replicate it live but no such luck, I will check the video and find out hopefully.
      Also load people bought them and as you can see no one has complained as for ssd there much much faster than hdd😉

    • @SiliconPower74
      @SiliconPower74 Před 3 lety +1

      @@MXDOUT In your review of the 3TB version, speeds are OK.
      The 3TB P300 is 7200RPM and the 4TB version is 5400RPM. Also 3TB is CMR and 4TB is SMR, so the 3TB should be a lot faster.
      The only posible explanation is the 256MB cache of the 4TB version but still strange.
