      @@Langlois3008 If you only have 5 psi of pressure it could mean 2 things;
      your oil pressure sensor is bad and needs to be changed.
      Or, your pick up tube O-ring is bypassing oil and needs to be replaced and your vehicle is losing lots of power. Worse case, it can be the oil pump in which can be tested with a proper gauge.

    Watched before doing my 2008 Silverado helped a ton thanks. Just for anyone else on a 07-13, there are two more fasteners on the wiring harness that follows the transmission lines on the front of the pan, and two fasteners (one each) on the plastic bell housing covers. And there is a power steering line you will have to disconnect and move away from the rack and pinion. Be careful not to kink the line. By the way, I would recommend waiting for the RTV to cure before filling with oil and starting.(it will specify on packaging and on the label)

    According to the Haynes manual you wanna torque those two long 10mm in the back of the pan to 106 INCH lbs, its about half as much torque as the rest of the 10mm pan bolts 18ft lbs.
    Torque sequence starts in the middle drivers side of the pan - then middle passenger side - then one bolt toward the front of the vehicle of middle driver side bolt- then one bolt forward of middle passenger side bolt - then one bolt rearward of middle driver side bolt - then rearward of passenger middle and then you go back to next set of bolts forward of the middle and so on alternating like that, the two long 10mm bolts in the rear of the pan should be the last in the sequence.
    The two 15mm bell housing bolts should only tightened finger tight before completely torquing the pan and only if the rear face of the pan and transmission bell housing don't sit flush on their own with the bell housing bolts loosely installed. After the pan is completely torqued then the 15 mm bolts of the bell housing to pan are 36ft lb.

    Hey really appreciate it! I followed this exactly and went from 21 psi cold start to 42 psi cold start. And on acceleration I went from 45 psi to 75 psi! Thanks for the great video. $30 in parts and the engine has like new oil pressure specs. I went ahead and did an engine flush and intake treatment BEFORE changing the oil and dropping the pan to do this job. I figured one last clean of flush chemicals on that old o ring wasn’t going to do more damage. So, order of Operations was: 1) intake treatment 2) engine flush 3) drop pan 4) replace Oring 5) reinstall everything and change oil. Runs like a top now. 160k miles and 42 psi at idle. I’ll take it!

    How do you know when you need to change the pickup tube O-ring?
    Also, thank you for the video!

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  Před 2 lety +2

      A great question Adrian. The purpose is for drop in oil pressure. You can try replacing the pickup tube O-Ring only to see if it does the trick. If it doesn't you will have to repeat most of the procedure over again.
      This video is; if you choose not to change the oil pump. It's actually a part of a longer and complete video. I suggest you watch it. (Complete video) oil pump & o-ring czcams.com/video/gPgtaccIPYo/video.html
      But if you look closely I had the oil pump cover off and did change the pump as well.
      We knew our oil pressure was low by the sound of the motor and loss of power.
      After changing the Pressure Sensor to make sure the gauge was accurate czcams.com/video/TAn2TsVIXnA/video.html
      I hope I'm explaining this as simple as possible....
      I'm not a certified mechanic and I'm not the sharpest mind on the block! Common Sense Only. I do not advise doing the O-ring and not change the oil pump at the same time. Especially on an engine that has over 100k miles. Many people do it. (Don't ask me why)
      If you haven't already realized, after watching the long version video you will realize that if changing the O-ring doesn't fix the low pressure problem, you will need to replace the oil pump and have to drop the pan all over again to get to the tube bolt.
      I hope this helps you to make a decision either way.

      If you are not sure and your motor doesn't feel its loosing power try changing the Oil Pressure Sensor first. In my opinion, You should change this anyway when you are going to do a pick up tube O-ring. The old one may be clogged. Here's the video and part links: czcams.com/video/TAn2TsVIXnA/video.html
      Oil Pressure Sensor: amzn.to/3mFlTTX Its not very hard to change. If you still get a low oil pressure reading after you replaced the sensor than go to the next step of changing the pick up tube O-ring.

      The purpose is for drop in oil pressure. You can try replacing the pickup tube O-Ring only to see if it does the trick. If it doesn't you will have to repeat most of the procedure over again. Plus consider this, if you are going to keep the vehicle it's well worth spending a few dollars more and change the pump while you already have it apart.
