Real Z-28 Rally Sport. #s match front to back. Very honest original car. Original metal. From a prominent car collection.
The Z-28 was the option code for a street racer. The high revving 302 was actually close to 400 hp, not the 290 it was rated at. Also included was a mandatory 4-speed, 3.73 posi and power disc brakes. Also had quick ratio steering, h.d. suspension, h.d. radiator, 15 inch wheels and racing stripes for good looks.
EXTERIOR: Original metal. Repainted once in 2001. Features the Rally Sport option including hideaway lights and relocated reverse lights. Also has exterior trim group, cowl induction and spoilers. This is an early car and has the correct narrow rear spoiler. No vinyl top, never had one. The Z-28 was the only Camaro in 1969 to have 15 inch rally wheels. The BFG tires are new. The body is really clean and straight. It fits real nice, doors shut nice. The bottom of the fenders and doors are smooth, no bubbles. It was repainted one time in 2001. Being straight really helps. We just wet sanded and polished the paint to a high gloss. Stripes are painted on correctly. It has pimples in the paint especially on the trunk lid and a crack in the black hood stripe. Stand next to the car and it looks great. All the stainless moldings are exceptionally nice. Has the original antenna. Grill, bumpers emblems are nice. Trim rings are new. Weatherstrips are in good shape. Glass is very nice.
INTERIOR: The Rally Sport also upgrades the interior with woodgrain trim and stainless trim on the pedals. This Z has optional console with factory gauges, tachometer and deluxe wheel. Overall good unabused condition. Nothing is broken or beat up. I think for the most part it's original. The headliner and visors are real nice, there's no rips and its tight. Upholstery, door panels and carpet have just enough patina to look original but still in nice shape. Has an aftermarket cassette player. Original cigarette lighter.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Vin #s match DZ 302 motor. Casting date and build date line up perfectly with build date of the car. Correct #s on the aluminum intake. Correct #s Holley carb. Correct double hump heads and finned aluminum valve covers. It has original deep groove pulleys so the belts dont fly off at high revs. Its had a complete tune up, new reproduction dated plug wires. It was upgraded with headers which really help the DZ 302 breath. The cowl induction is functional and complete, even the flapper in the hood. Has original trim tag on the firewall and codes match the car. It features power steering and power brakes. Overall very respectable and proper looking.

Nice looking Camaro in the same paint code 59 Frost Green as my 1969 Camaro Z/27 convertible. One problem I see is the rear paint stripes were carried down over the trunk lip, which is incorrect. They should stop at the bottom of the spoiler. I can’t tell from the video what the badging is on the ZL2 hood, but it appears much wider with a split than the typical “302” badge. I question the “Camaro” badge rather than “rallysport” on the front fenders. The majority (95%+) of 1969 RS Z/28s I’ve seen have “rallysport”. Maybe it’s an early vs late or Norwood vs Van Nuys difference? This is an early 1969 Camaro with the left over 1968 spoiler. Finally, I noticed this car has the 7,000 rpm tach vs the 8,000 rpm tach on other 1969 Z/28s, both have a 6,000 rpm redline. Again, why the differences on 1969s?

Yea, the HP was highly underrated...most mechanics in the know rated it at 390. The Camaro research group has it listed at 403 with headers. The Crossram setup, when done right added tremendous power. 465 + HP...Remember with that GM setup gose some other hi-performance goodies, including 1st or 2nd design off road racing cam, heavy duty valve springs not to mention 2 Holy 650 double pump carbs with mechanical secondaries. 8 k no problem, keep in mind these cars were not designed for the quarter mile, but for road racing and in 68 & 69 they were the champs! However if set up right they held their own in the quarter mile..

@@cohokid6936 Well your pretty much right, but value depends on how much of the car Is Original, they rally wheels are stamped for each year car, obviously numbers matching drive train, but even individual original engine and brake parts add value, Original Crossram setups as you probably know are rare and very expensive, upwards of $23,000 . Build sheet, protecto plate, all add authenticity and value. The market also, I've seen a 68 in restored condition without the crossram go for only $50,000. A steal if the car is in actual restored shape. Their value in my opinion, depending on the car is easily in the 120's with an original crossram setup....but that dosen't mean that you'll be able to get that kind of money.

Never installed at the factory, most dealers would not install without voiding the cars warranty. This set up was used to win the 68 n 69 SCCA Trans Am Championships, it was Road racing. Chevrolet had to make it available to the public and was required to sell at least 1000 units per 12 months, if they were going to use it in the race, it had to be made available to the public. There were numerous other upgrades to the engine needed in order to achieve optimal performance. Engines were rated at 465 HP or better. The Penske winning cars engines were balanced and blueprinted..An off road GM racing cam was also incorporated, heads were polished and ported as was the crossram aluminum intake, which sported 2 holly 650 carbs with mechanical secondaries.
No numbers are known as to how many crossram setups were sold or survived. They do surface from time to time and can sell for over $20,000 dollars if authenticated. It's modern gas that has been sitting in a garage. Get good gas, cam-2 mix in a small amount of lead substitute and half tank of the best modern premium . Will run like 1969, guaranteed. Fixes the high compression, lead-free,low octane problem with these excellent running mussel cars. Makes for expensive per mile gasoline. Otherwise you can make excuses like, cold, carb is needing adjust or rebuilt for hesitation, loading up, strong smell of exhaust, not very close to HP expected all together running like a Barracuda or a Mustang, or AMX. To see if I know wtf I'm talking about :DO AS I HAVE SAID ABOVE. Make sure you know what your doing, this car will kill you , if you are stupid.

Interesting I've never heard of the "short" rear spoiler? I'm have to research that...the paint on the trunk deck is NOT correct! So its definitely not original paint! Unless that is NOT a factory spoiler...you should not be able to see the striping below the spoiler from the rear on the trunk lid. Some spoilers were put on at the dealer, which requires the removal of the "Camaro " badge on the right rear of the trunk lid..most of the time it weren't put back on...

I have to ask how nobody has noticed anything funny about the fender emblems. Beautiful car but I have to ask myself how a legitimate Rally Sport would ever end up with the "RALLY SPORT" emblem holes filled and the incorrect (non-RS) emblem in it's place. I would have to say the cat was born as a non Rally Sport.

that is the trouble with Chevy cars...too easy to clone and too hard to tell because I say nobody knows for sure what was really suppose to be on a certain model Camaro or Chevelle. . Everyone will tell you this is right and that is wrong but the only people that know for sure are probably all dead now. I have witnessed so many Chevy "experts" argue about fender, hood, and grill badges on Chevy cars so who can you believe??? None of them!!! I would certainly not pay big money for one even if I had it. Too big of a risk these days. Same with the old school HEMI Mopars...sooo many clones out there now there has to be some that had the vin numbers changed so a 318 3 speed Barracuda worth 20 grand magically transforms into a quarter million dollar HEMI 'cuda 4 speed complete with the right VIN... all in the name of GREED....

The only Camaros that had RS on the fenders were 67(Rally Sport only). 68 and 69 had the engine callouts on the fenders....except Z/28s starting 3rd week of March of 68 for 68Z/28s and all of 69. Remember the RS package could be combined with any model Camaro. When combined with SS or Z/28, the performance package would take precedence.

Early 1969 Z28s (produced from late 1968 thru early 1969)came with a 7000 rpm tach. The factory started putting 8000 rpm tachs around Feb of 1969. Early Z28s got the narrow leftover 1968 spoilers if you ordered the spoiler too.
