In 2023, Hong Kong witnessed significant changes that shaped its landscape and narrative, from the post-Covid reopening of the Hong Kong-mainland China border in January to the murder of socialite Abby Choi Tin-fung in February, and the ongoing national security trial of media mogul Jimmy Lai Chee-ying that began in mid-December. The city also saw the return of major cultural events like Clockenflap music festival, Art Basel and the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, attracting international visitors.

My husbands family is from Hong Kong and as a Canadian I feel very proud to know them. I want to learn more about my future children’s ancestors and history. They will be half First Nations and half Chinese, so I will do anything I can to let them know both sides of who they are.

@@gp2779you're right about that. I was born in HK. Been away from my homeland a few decades. Decided to finally go back and immediately after I got off HK International airport.. a Taxi driver was rude to me because of my challenge explaining to him where I wanted to go.

I believe in order and structure must be established first before freedom is to be discussed and given.
A lot of people remember,politicise and use tiananmen incident to convince people how bad china government was or is.
But be realistic. Back in 1986 what kind of life was china people living and what is the state of china economy progress back then? Just because some people saw a glimpse of the prosperity and freedom of the outside world at that time they start to clamour for freedom but the country at that time was simply just not ready nor orepared yet at all.
What can people do even if they have freedom? It will only just cause chaos and confusion back then only.
In order to enjoy freedom your country must become developed first and you yourself must have the responsibility needed to take on freedom in life.

2023 is a bad year. Whatever bad that exist continue to exist in 2023. Usa adjust its interest rate from 0 to 5 percent leading to yet another sharp round of inflation increase worldwide. A new war broke out yet again. Covid made a comeback durung year end again. Two very beautiful and kind hong kong ladies left this world too soon for their time leaving many people sadden by their demise.
One year took away both Coco and Kathy. My heart still bleeds even till now.
