  • 3 chains break on Vail pass in white out conditions I was pissed. This makes 6 chain failures this season. Cheap crap puts me in a bad spot several times on this run.
To the companies credit they got me some brand new high quality chains.

I see the valid complaints. I will quit being cheap on the ws fluid. Skip to 13:00 to skip past the muddy stuff. One day I'll figure out how to crop it. Thanks all

There's always gonna be complainers, so ignore most of them. It takes time to get into the routine of new endeavors. I'm gonna keep watching.

Good day from Ontario Canada . Boy big mountains there!
Here in Ont. we cannot have chains or even studs, but we don't have mountains especially were I live
When growing up on farm we always put chains on farm tractor
I often wondered how tractor trailer can pull 30-40 tons in winter, when farm tractors can pull there own weight
    Thanks & good luck.

Do you recall the brand name of these oh so wonderful tire chains, I would have been so pissed off too so I felt your pain and utter frustration !. Also what is the brand name of the ones your company bought now which hopefully will work better. Any idea what mm size material the chains are made from in either case. I am from Alberta ( I farm actually ) but had worked a bit in the oil patch years ago and various friends that still do and there was no way we could have run junk like that out in the bush. Of course we always ran a highly aggressive style of triples on the drives due to off road conditions and yes one or two steer chains but again crap conditions where singles won't cut it at all as one can get away with on pavement. That style of chain we ran would be murder on pavement but its the go to tire chains that pretty much all of the forestry logging trucks and oilfield run up here off road ( winter gravel roads and bush roads ). In any event lets hope your new chains don't let you down.

Hi ! I hate chaining tires ! LoL I m a retired hiway trucker of 35 years on Canadian roads coast to coast ! I m french from around Montreal and learned English on the street ! just watching english TV and reading signs ! never opened a book or dictionary ! I worked for English transport companies since i got my first truck in 1986 ! I worked from Edmonton for 10 years ! from 2008 to 2018 ! Did all kinds of hauling in Western canada ! When i was coming back from Vancouver i only chained-up one time ! on # 5 on the big hill ( the smasher ) LoL . and also did some deliveries on oilrigs and oil sands plants ! the oil rigs can be far into the forest and can be really steep hills and sharp turns ! it was a nice experience ! needing a different VHS channel everywhere i even went places with more than 1 channel required for my destination ! respecting speed limits and calling the uncoming traffic as heavy or MT at the right km marker. All things you must do and plan ahead ! trucking AB and BC including Yukon and NWT was the best time of my trucking life ! 🤠

@@sergebrunet4218 I don't blame you for hating to put tire chains on, the conditions are never usually good when one is putting them on ( its never a summer day in a parking lot ) and the chains could be all iced up hanging on a rack and just an awful ordeal. No doubt you've driven close to where I live given where you were going and working out of Edmonton. I wonder if you ever were told to go way back into the Chinchaga wilderness area, there is the main road and then cutlines/trails through the bush for a long long ways through muskeg which means only during the winter can they access those area's to drill wells. The initial road is accessed just north of Manning Alberta. As to the highway 5 Coquihalla highway, I've only been on it once about 11 years ago with my pickup and only headed south on it and not familiar with any names of sections etc but I suspect the Smasher as you call it was the area where I was surprised how steep it was for a highway grade and dropping down a gear in my pickup was not good enough to hold me back like most highway grades. I thought of those RV's going over that section with no engine braking system and trying to maintain speed ( no one seems to want to go slow ) and can well imagine the smoked brakes in that area. Winter time would be something else in bad conditions and dealing with the other people on the highway.

@@charlesb4267 LoL ya that s wild trails in the mountains to drive on just to get to a small rig ! but i m sure the owner is on a beach drinking his brandy on the rocks and smoking cuban cigars ! he don t care as long as the money flows ! I was hauling rig mats on the sites before they even start building the rig and then i was hauling Phoenix fence when they were closing down when the price of the barrel was too low to do any profit ! Now the price is high enough to operate the rigs ! Yes ! the smasher is the hill with the brake-check on top and the big snow-shed going down ! i made a video going up that hill chained-up ! it s on CZcams under my name ! LoL the snow banks were as high as my truck ! and you can see the slow trucks going down on the other side ! There s 2 long hill on that hiway ! if you start in Kamloops there s one before Merritt and the smasher is going down to Hope, BC. you can be in summer conditions in hope and in a blizzard on top of the hill ! LoL😅🤣

@@sergebrunet4218 That reminds me, a friend of mine used to fly the CEO of I believe it was Suncore around, sometimes overseas etc, I believe a Cessna Citation X which is or was the fastest commercial private jet, an expensive toy to put it mildly. Ok so you hauled rig mats, there is at least one company locally that builds them ( the heavy steel frame with wood timbers installed ) but there are also other companies that make the wood only ones that they lay out as matting for trucks to drive on the lease or to the lease, the other day a truck rolled just south of Grande Prairie close to the wapiti bridge carrying that type of rig mat and spread his load around. There is always something happening, on the road or in the bush where we would rarely hear about it. Never was around Hope during the winter to see what its like there but can imagine its very different there and to the west compared to east or north as one gets into the mountains. Same with the passes in Colorado ( never been there in the winter though to personally see it ) as it can be nice below and completely different going over a pass. I see you've made trips to Whitehorse, I had an uncle that hauled mail for many years all the way up there from Dawson Creek and then in later years he was driving with someone doing 24 hour type drives hopping in with the owner as he picked up loads for Canadian Tire from Edmonton I think and ultimately ended in Whitehorse. Years ago as a summer holiday thing I drove up to Whitehorse, then Dawson city, then over the top of the world highway and then up to Fairbanks and the arctic circle on the Dalton, Denali NP, Anchorage, Homer, Skagway, down the Cassiar highway etc.
