Thanks! I do my best!
Terrific video, love the advice and the links to all the various parts I need to buy. I'll definitely be doing this, looks great!
Thanks for the kind words! Glad it helped, I really like the effect it has in my detolfs!
Thank you!! I sold my Detolf’s last year because of the blinding light... this makes me want to get them again. Going to IKEA tomorrow thanks to you. Thank you sir!
No problem at all! Glad the video helped you! Thanks for watching!
Amazing collection. Thanks for the light defuser tip, definitely going to try that.
No problem! Let us know how it works out!
Detolfs have been sold out for months in my area. Finally came back in stock this weekend. Just wanted to know how the Amazon diffusers are holding up? Lukelights still sold out.
They have been perfect! No issues
I’m getting two detolfs soon and this was super helpful and I’m actually gonna do the same process on the bottom of each shelf to have light shinning back up on them
Thanks for watching! Glad the video helped!
Awesome, upgrade. Thanks for the video, I ended up doing the same after watching you do it. The hardest part for me was cutting the dang double sided tape lol. Other than that it was a pretty easy transition. Thanks again!!
No problem! Glad you were able to make it work!
Great video. I may do this with my display
It’s totally worth it!
This is a nice idea!
Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks for the tip.
You got it!
Good job, I just did this myself but went for RGB and dimmable. Also I made the strips longer than yours so it touches the metal frames on both sides, so it doesn't leave gaps on either side, 13.7 inch compared to 13 inch
Glad it worked out for ya!
Cool hack
Great improvement! I think it may look even better if you were to lay a flat black sheet across the back instead of splitting them down each column.
Ohh or perhaps some rgb led strips facing the wall behind/between each column. Then you can accent some ambient light for specific columns such as a red villain or rogue gallery column.
I love your collection man. Especially Superman, Batman (Affleck), Knightmare Batman and Harley Quinn. I'm about to buy my first Detolf for my statues and looking for the ideas. Thank you.
Thank you for watching! Much appreciated!

@@ChaliDo now we’re talking! Haha. Welcome to the watch!
I am down for the Cheesy Thumbs up at the end. Made me like it right away!!
Haha. Glad you liked it!
That looks awesome, can you explain how you wired it all up ? You didn’t really mention that part
Thanks soooooo muchhhh!!!
No problem!
Thanks great vid!!! Very helpful. I’ve kept looking for those HD lights but they’ve been out of stock forever! Any refs for alternative lights?
Unfortunately, I believe Home Depot discontinued them! I know IKEA sells a comparable light strip as well.
Great vide. I want to do this on a milsbo. Your meths is great because I can cut the channels to size. Do you know if there are flights strips 2x as long as the ones you used? Or should I get 2 sets 1 for each side?
I don’t believe there are that type of light strip 2x as long. You may have to buy 2 sets.
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant video, perfect solution to my concerns of having the LED light shine into my eyes, as well as the angle adjustment. I love what you've done and I'm going to try doing the same!
Question on the Home Depot lights, do they come with dimmer? I like to vary how bright I make my cases. I don't see mention of dimmer capability so I might try another brand with dimmer, but love the concept. Thanks so much for the idea and inspiration!
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately the Home Depot lights do not have a dimmer.
What do you use for the background I like the black look
It was a black fabric from hobby lobby cut to size and I used double sided adhesive to stick it to the back.
Hi. It looks like you also put a diffuser strip on the the lights. Where did you get that from to fit the aluminium so well. Luke Lights are still out of stock so may do a self build. Thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks for watching! The diffusers were included with the aluminum channel.
Great alternative idea for the Detolf cases. Two questions, the light kit isn't in stock at home depot and can you recommend another set and what is your cases setting on in the video?
IMO I believe the Home Depot lights are the best bang for your buck and would either wait until they are in stock or have them shipped to you.
I built a custom stand for my detolfs out of 2x10 and 2x12 boards. It was really easy.
Do you know if there any shorter compatible connector cables you can get for these? Are they standardized? Seems like the 3ft ones are gonna be hard to hide the excess.
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching! I’m actually not sure… I haven’t had detolfs in a couple years lol.
Great video man. What do you use under your Detolfs to lift them off the ground? Do you have any vidos talking about it?
Thanks! I made my own riser at the time.
czcams.com/video/nKXdbTi7t-k/video.html
I'm late to this but I love this idea - you've inspired me! Thanks! Also, did you happen to use the IKEA Kallax shelving for the black foundation that your DETOLFs are sitting on?
Hey better late then never lol. I actually built the riser myself out of lumber. I also made a video on it!
Very nice. I would have loved seeing how you hid the wires.
I just zip tied them to the metal frame. There are some videos out there showing it though.
hello :) thank you for your videos, I have a question what is the reference of the black tape stuck on the aluminum a big thank you

Awesome job, did the same thing to my detolf thanks to you. Question what are you using for your background?
Thanks! I was using a black felt fabric from hobby lobby that was cut to size and hung using doubled sided adhesive.
@@thejediknightswatch Thank you for your reply.
hi, a question.. to make the black background did you use black paper attached to the back of the glasses ?
I used black felt fabric cut to size from my local hobby store and used double sided tape to hang it.
definitely gonna be implementing this in my setup! thanks for the vid, what’s under your cabinets as a riser?
It’s a custom riser I built out of lumber

Thank you for sharing. Collecting is already an expensive hobby. any helpful and economic ways to display our collection is welcomed.👍👍👍
No problem! Glad you like me the video!
Really helpful tips and it’s greatly appreciated. What is the name of the song in the background?
Many thanks
Thanks! Glad it helped you out! Not sure about the song off the top of my head. We purchased it through premiumbeat.com
Awesome tutorial! I ordered exactly what you recommended! Also, what did you put in the background? Black paper?
Wondering the same thing, looks like a different material, cloth looking black. Help us out !🤟🏼
It’s a black felt material that you can get from your local craft store and have cut to size. I used double sided adhesive to stick it on the back panel. Cost was just a few bucks. Hope this helps!
what are you using for the black backgrounds? love the set up!
Thanks! At the time I was using black felt fabric that I got cut at my local craft store!
The cheapest way I found to do it was matt black contact paper, cheap as hell and look cool too.
Hi bro, which forniture are you use behind the detolfs? thank you
and... how many weight have you got in the detolfs? in total, the weight of detolf + figures, aprroximatly
thnaks you
When I had the detolfs I used black felt fabric on the backs.
I don’t know the exact weight but I think IKEA weight limit is 12 lbs
Great video. Quick question - the lights say that 8 is the maximum linkable strips. Were you able to link all of your cabinets together or are they truly 8 max?
I had each cabinet on its own power cord.
How did you wire the lights? I got the RGB version, but it only includes 2 long wires (39 inch) to connect the trips and then 1 tiny connector (3.9 inch).
I think the RGB were different. I had 4 different cables. There is a link in the description.
What shelf are you using as the riser? That’s such a awesome idea!
I actually made it myself from 2x10 and 2x12 boards. It was super easy!
U should have made a video too on how to make..... just saying. Great build ....for the riser.... gonna do that too.
What's the total length of the riser? LxWxH?
Hello, could you tell me if the Detolf is Dustproof for the things you put in it.
Kind regards
Detolf cabinets are not dust proof, but I added weatherstripping to help make it more dust resistant.
Where did you get that yellow base to help cut the aluminum channels?
Any hardware store will sell them.
Helpful video! 👍🏼 You have 5 Detolfs resting on some sort of black riser unit. Where did you get that? Is it one piece?
Thanks! It’s a custom stand that I built out of 2x10 and 2x12 boards
I already need more space. Should have made it bigger lol
@@thejediknightswatch Thank you. I like having slightly less display space than my actual collection size. Makes me rotate, repose and keep display fresh.
What type of saw blade are you using? I'm trying to do what you did but I'm making little progress...
Just a normal hacksaw
I'm normally intimidated by anything DIY, but this vid inspired me to try this! What is that item you used to sand down the end of the bracket after cutting?
I used a file for smoothing metal and aluminum. You can get them at any hardware store or on Amazon.
@@thejediknightswatch Appreciate it!
You've got a couple of shelves with over 15lbs of figures on them, any concerns about glass breaking? Trying to figure out how to reinforce my collection safely.
Yeah that would concern me. I believe the weight limit for each shelf is 12lbs if I’m correct. I’ve seen a lot of pictures of shelves that shatter…
This looks fantastic! Question, how are you accessing the power outlet? Are you drilling a hole in the base? Running it through a crack? Are you running it out the front and around? Thanks!
Thanks for watching! I run the cord out the front door, to the side and under the unit. The only thing visible for the most part is the switch
@@thejediknightswatch thanks! And the lights you purchased look great! Do they come with enough wire to connect each light, from shelf to shelf? Haha. I’m just about to purchase everything you recommended. If you have your own link, let me know.
@@atplaypics380 yep they have enough length to hook them up but you need to do it the right way. There is a link in the description on how to install.
@@thejediknightswatch Thank you. I apprecaite the assist!
That’s what I’m here for! Lol
Is the cloth/material that you put behind the cabinet on the outside of the cabinet or on the inside?
I put mine on the inside, but you can do either or.
if you dont mind me asking, how did you do the wiring (cable management) i guess is a way to put it
?
No problem. I have a link to a video in the description.
@@thejediknightswatch thank you man didn’t even think you would respond
@@Bisento874 I always try to get back to everyone my friend!
I dunno if its just the camera or Harley's face is too bright to see details due to lights that it makes it ahrd to see? How does it look in real life?
I'm wondering because I wanna do the same setup for my Gundams.
The problem is that lots of them are white and I wanna know if you can control brightness down on those LEDs so it won't come out as blinding.
In person she didn’t look over exposed. You could try to find some lights with brightness control. The ones I had used did not have that option though.
Hey man, maybe I missed it, but what are you using for the light defuser? Great idea btw
It’s an aluminum V shape channel from Amazon. The plastic diffuser was included with it. Hope this helps!
@@thejediknightswatch oh they were included! Awesome. Didn’t know that. Thanks a bunch
What are you usingto blacken the rear of the detolfs?
I used black felt fabric that I cut from my local craft store and put it on the inside of the back panel.
Help! How did you make the background glass blacked out?
Black felt fabric from your local craft store cut down to fit in the detolf.
Thanks for the video. How did u get the backing on?
The black backdrop?
@@thejediknightswatch Hi. Behind the display's or in the displays on the back wall, all the glass is black. I wanted to know what type of material? I've been thinking of adding something with texture to give an extra element to the figures. Thanks for getting back.

Interesting. I’ll def keep an eye on that!
Are you just running all of them on a power strip or can they all be linked up like voltron?
Yep using power strips
hey just as a heads up, your link goes to a smaller LED at 10in, looks like you used the 12in ones. was a tight squeeze getting it all set up with 10s but it's doable.

I see your cutting light diffusers. No mention of them in your video unless I missed it. Where to buy?
They are sold with the aluminum channel as a package deal.
@@thejediknightswatch Thanks.
What's the music track playing around 4 minutes in?
It’s a song I purchased off premiumbeats.com. It’s become the channels theme music lol. I can’t remember the name off the top of my head
@@thejediknightswatch Damm.. Pretty good video plus song 😅
What’s the black background made of ?
It’s felt fabric from any craft store. Used double sided tape to adhere it to the background.
Hey, what are those channels called? I went to the local big box stores and described what I’m looking for and they look at me like I’m whacked! Trying to search Amazon does no good if I don’t know what the channel is called. The closest thing I found was a step down track used to mate 2 different thickness of flooring.
It’s linked in the description below, but it’s an aluminum v shaped channel with diffuser.
Many Thanks! I followed the link and there they were. I have a cabinet that is visually identical to the original Detolf cabinet except it’s twice the width. I need a length of 30” and those channels come in 3.3’ lengths. Perfect! Thanks again. 👍😎👍
I'm about to get 2 of these shelves I found on Amazon I can get 1ft channels on a 6pk for $12 ik the width of each shelf is 15in is 1.5in on each side with no lighting ok or shld I just go your route. Thanx for the help.
Glad to be of service!
@@thejediknightswatch but you didn't answer my question lol
@@thejediknightswatch as in will foot long channels look ok with the shelves being 15in
@@mattsmith5436 they probably would work. Tough to say without knowing for sure. May just lose a little light on each end.
@@thejediknightswatch ok ty
hello can you tell me the brand of the led you used or send me the link? thanks
Hey there, all the items are listed in the description of the video!👍🏻
Did you just peel the existing light strips off and re-tape them?
Yep that’s exactly what I did😊
Are these the right lights? I took these from your link in description but say only 10” long?
They were at the time. They may have been discontinued by Home Depot. I would search their site to see what’s available.
@@thejediknightswatch the link you provided still works, just brings to lights that are 10”. I didn’t know if that is what you used? Seems they are in stock.

Hello what do you have for the back black dropbehind detolf?
It’s just a black felt fabric that is on the back of the detolf with double sided adhesive.
@@thejediknightswatch specific place you got it? Was it long or cut into pieces?
Any craft store. Got mine at hobby lobby and had it cut to fit in the back of the detolf.
@@thejediknightswatch sorry for the haggle do ypu have the measurements?
Sorry, I don’t. You can just measure the inside of your detolf though. Or probably search online for the measurements.
I wish someone would release a tutorial on how to blackout the detolf, I get you use fabric or a curtain but how do u set it up and what not. I can't tell
I just measured the inside of the detolf, cut the fabric and adhered with double sided gorilla tape.
Are detolfs always outbof stock on ikea?
It’s hit or miss lately. You can be notified when they come back in stock.0

Is there a cheaper plastic alternative?
I’m not sure off the top of my head. You could probably do some snooping around and look for plastic v shape channels.

Hello what did you use those things you were cutting with the scissors for?
Light diffusers. They fit into the aluminum channel.
Really good idea but it takes away the clean look of the detolf cabinets. One center light on the ceiling is better looking over all but thats only my opinion
So no info regarding the set up of all the wires from the lighting kits 🤔
Sorry friend, I already had the wires ran previously, but there are a ton of videos on CZcams on how to run them! 👍🏻😊

I’m not the most handy person either but it was still super easy!
I cant even get a detolf every Ikea near me is out of stock and Ikea like a 1hr30 away from me smh
I’ve heard that a lot lately… no good! I’ll be ditching the detolfs and going to Moducase in the next couple of months.
DONT BUY THOSE LIGHTS. I have 9 Detolf with those lights and all are yellow now after 1 year of use. I had the same idea as this video using the V-Shap rails with defuser. THIS LIGHTS ARE GARBAGE
im thinking about instaling wifi ones that can be controlled by my phone, also think the U shape brackets look cooler?
What shelf do you have under the detolfs bro?
They were custom made. I did a video on them. Super easy to build to your desired fit.
