  • The chub (Squalius cephalus) is an excellent species to target on the fly. Here I follow Kent based angler Josh Allen as he demonstrates his unique method of catching chub on streamers.

Ingenious technique, I've never seen anyone shoot line on a bow and arrow cast before.

Great video! Most of the people in the US won’t have ever heard of “Chub”, great intro to the species 👍👍👍

Great video, as ever. Fantastic to see some real innovation in fly fishing. But, Josh, please ditch the barbed hooks!

We did have plenty of chub and barbel to catch locally but the otters have been double busy during the lockdowns
Pink shrimp used to be a very reliable fly 👍

As a novice fly-fisher it would be much appreciated if you could show your rig and choice of fly more. Thanks

Blah blah blah - upstream dry fly fishing to rising fish - blah blah blah . Love your inventiveness....

I don’t get it ?…. Why don’t you just use light spinning gear set up ! I used to fish for chub with this set up, they used to go mad over little grub/lead head set ups. There’s no need I can see to using “fly rod” style of set up !! In fact I see it as a hinderance !!! But then hey … It’s just my point of view, I’ve never fly fished for chub 🤪😂😂

Most fly fishing is a hinderance. A guy with a worm would outfish the best fly anglers on any given trout stream, and probably hook a lot less bushes and trees in the process. Lure fishing is a hinderance compared to bait fishing. Bait fishing is a hinderance compared to electro-fishing or fishing with a net or dynamite. The "hinderances" are what make it fun and challenging - but each to their own!

No guys i wasn’t disagreeing with the “fly against bait” debate… I was just saying after watching the method, I would of chosen to ditch the fly rod, as it’s not needed to load the fly lines up etc etc and use say a nice light spinning rod for such a task. Tackle is the tool to achieve a specific method, I wouldn’t use a sledgehammer to hammer in a pin nail ! It’s still a hammer, but one best not suited for that task.
The consent of the type of fishing he’s doing is not in question ? I just think there’s a better way of using that method.
It is ok for people to have a different of opinion guys 😂😂😍😎👍
