We don’t talk about the Korean War in America for the same reason we don’t talk about soccer; we can’t stand ties. One happens in our football once a decade and we all get pissed off.

@@fourthdownback6035 we talk about Vietnam. That was a loss. Also, ties in football are hated because its not as exciting or fun to have a winner. I think most people would rather loose than get a tie even if they don't say it themselves.

@@fourthdownback6035 That’s really oversimplifying it (pun intended). The Korean War is considered forgotten for many reasons. The US isn’t as respectful towards it because it was a United UN mission. Additionally, it taints our invincible status post WW2.

As I recall, the standoff at the end of the video is actually why the hotline between the White House and the Kremlin was established. A huge amount of time was wasted and the whole situation got way more dramatic than it needed to because Kennedy and Khrushchev kept having to go through intermediaries to talk to each other and it was decided that one way or another, the leaders of these two countries needed to be able to speak directly with each other on a moment's notice.

The so-called "missile gap," which was the idea that the Soviets had a larger and more powerful nuclear arsenal in the 1950s, was later shown to be false. In fact, the U.S. had a larger arsenal at that time and throughout most of the Cold War. Kennedy came up with the "missile gap" terminology as a campaign wedge to claim that Eisenhower had neglected U.S. defense. It wasn't true.

As well as alot of Delta V, Power, Thrust, and Burn Time..As well as A Well Managed ISP..You have to think that when us Americans Reached the Moon. We took a very Long journey with each and every stage providing a curcial mission. But the Soviet Launching Sputnik Satellites only Required 1 Stage and a Very Low Earth Orbit(LEO). Very Little Delta V, Power, Thrust, Very Short burn time, And Not a Large ISP.

I have been watching so many videos about the Cold War recently that I am starting to find new things wrong with this Oversimplified. This time, I noticed that he left out 2 really impactful facts about the history of the Cold War which really need to be included, despite the presentation needing to be "Oversimplified". I think it is very important to know that the President Woodrow Wilson sent thousands of US troops to Russia to try and help the White Army defeat the Communists, along with troops from the British Empire, Romania, Greece, France, Italy and Japan among others. The other fact that is very important to know is that the Soviet Union started a massive spying campaign against the USA in the 1920s, recruiting thousands of Americans to assist them. This campaign of espionage only increased during the time of World War 2 when we were "allies" with the Soviets. The main reason that this is important is because the actual spying activities of the USSR actually helped to fan the flames of both the Red Scare of the 1920s AND the Communist paranoia of the late 1940s and early 1950s that resulted in the House Un American Activities Committee and McCarthyism. 🖖✌

HOW? HOW? How can you guys be so uninformed about basic European history??? It makes sense that you would not be taught much about internal matters of North and South America, but you seem to know almost NOTHING about European history! In the US, in public schools, we had to learn about various silly little wars among British "houses", and the invasions of the Angles, Saxons, and Normans, as well as all the atrocities the Angles (AKA English) and Romans commited against the NATIVE Celts. Just what do they teach in UK schools?

My school focused a LOT on European history. Including the whole of the Cold War period. The Roman period and Celts were extensively covered. And it wasn’t a private school, meaning it had to follow the National Curriculum, which has actually changed since these two fine people went to school (not that I’m calling them old lol). BTW you’re wrong when you say “Angles AKA English”. The Angles were from southern Denmark and northern Germany and settled in Britain during the post-Roman period. This was hundreds of years before the Viking and Norman invasions which not only influenced the English language but also the genetic makeup of the English people. It’s true that the name “England” comes from “Land of the Angles” but they are not our direct ancestors.
