Reminds me a lot of the Fender Starcaster (which funnily enough was Fender's failed attempt at making a competitor to the ES-335 in the 70s)

I know the guitar you're referring to. But, Fender has put that "Starcaster" label on a bunch of crap models ..and low end Strat type guitars it gets confusing when people bring them up. There is even a Squier Starcaster witch is actually pretty playable. The real oddball was the one sold at Target and Wallmart with a triangle headstock for ... if I'm remembering right $169.00.

Have owned a JV60 for 3 years now, far and away my favourite guitar. I ended up swapping out the standard pickups for Fishman Fluence Classics and replaced the tone knob with another Push/Push to access all 3 voices (at the sacrifice of the 12dB boost 💔) and I've been really happy with it!

Hey Mike, long time Bigsby user here. When restringing a bigsby, bend the tip of the string that goes on the little pointy bits at the back 180 degrees so it makes a semi circle and points back forward towards the neck. It will make restringing it a breeze :)

The PRS Vela has quickly become my jack-of-all-trades guitar-a Dynasonic-inspired single-coil in the neck, a Filter'tron-inspired humbucker in the bridge, and a scale length right between Fender's and Gibson's at 25". It does virtually everything well, looks and feels great, and was just over half the cost of my other guitars. Seems like you've found that in the Valentine sig 😊
The G&L Fallout is another great "one-and-done" guitar to check out!

There's not many PRS guitar models you can go wrong with on picking up. PRS builds some sweet guitars, no doubt. How about those "Les-O-Caster" guitars? jk Blah,ha,ha!!! All BS aside, IDK how far this guitar builder is close to market this guitar. But, last year my buddy Mark who's Joe Walsh's guitar tech showed me this new mod guitar the builders gave to Joe. It's a pretty crazy idea they've got, yet very innovative at the same time. The mod wheel they came up with relates to this one guitar model they built that can create multiple guitar tone sounds of many different brands of guitars. So, if anyone's curious guitar enthusiast, check out this cool mod guitar built by "JKR Custom Guitars." When they do come to market the price is certainly out of my league unless I hit the lottery soon? The ballpark figure is gonna be around $6 to $7 G's. Even still, this mod wheel's worth a look if your interested. +Peace, Funk & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Souls My Friends+

I like it! I myself prefer to have a single coil in the bridge and humbucker in the neck. If a bridge humbucker isn't clear/bright and has a honky, nasally midrange I'll throw in a humbucker-sized single coil. I like having more potential brightness than I need on one end and more warmth than I need on the other so I can cover more territory. Other guitarists I speak to are usually surprised at that.

I could play live with just one guitar, and I used to when I played in bands. I've had a Schecter Omen 6 since 2010 and it was my main gigging and recording guitar for years. Since then, it's undergone major surgery, only keeping a couple original parts. 24 frets, double humbucker with individual coil splits, hard tail so I can keep it in tune, feels amazing to play after the professional setup, that's really all I could ever need from a 6 string electric guitar. I do have a custom Warmoth build, an Epiphone Les Paul Special II, and a Schecter 8 string though. But if it came down to it, that's the guitar, even though I didn't like it for so many years but couldn't get rid of it because I'd already started modding it so it was worthless to anyone else so I just made the best of it and it's a great guitar now.

I just bought this guitar. I noticed that the slit for the 3 way switch wasnt painted on the inside, so you can see a bit bare wood and rough overspray. Switch and pots are the cheapest made, cavity is a mess of wires. Tone knob fell off after some playing, and saw some corrosion on the inside of the knob. Volume knob was installed too low and made a slight indent in the body from activating the boost.
I'm also just nitpicking, I expect little things like this on an import. This guitar is a beast, I'd recommend it. The neck has a very nice depth, and I lucked out with a ton of birdseye on my fingerboard. The pickups also sound really good, no need to upgrade them

Hey Mike! I actually have had this exact same problem (going on the road, but you can only take two guitars INCLUDING ACOUSTIC) and I came to a totally different conclusion, and I’d like to hear your take on it. I actually bought a 1967 Teisco/Silvertone ET-460/K4L for a touring worship internship for about $500, and it fills the single coil + humbucker style gap nicely. The four single coil pickups can actually double up to create both a neck and bridge humbucker pickup configuration, and it comes stock with Teisco’s version of a Bigsby from the 60s. What’re your thoughts on a guitar like this?

i swapped out the stock pickups in my valentine for a set of beefy p90's, still retained the db boost which was great, if the sterling version had a coil split like the usa version i would keep a HB in the bridge.

The specs seem weird to me on paper, but the tone don’t lie!

The average non-musical audience member can't tell the difference between guitar tones. Tone only matters to us. One guitar (maybe +1 for a backup) and some pedals is all you actually need.

    Two guitars?
I'd take a Westone Spectrum III (HSH, coil split and phase switch giving 13 different voicings).
The other guitar would get left at home.

As long as I can coil split the humbuckers, I just want a Les Paul.

Alright, in answer to your questions: This guitar and James Valentine are great. Personally, I am not a massive Bigsby fan. If I'm going to have a trem, I prefer a floating Strat trem. But I have the same problem as you have, and occasionally need to relegate myself to playing a Tele in order to get myself out of the habit of grabbing the bar every time I hold a chord or note

Bro impossible question. I play a lot of stuff, from technical death/black metal, over hardcore punk and wave up to blues, jazz and acoustic stuff. I have around 30 guitars for each genre & their subgenres 😅 but in the end of the day we all came to the point that you can use a Les Paul or a telecaster/strat for nearly everything, so I also would pick one of these I guess… but maybe more like one from ESP/ltd, cause I made the experience that Gibson & fender aint the real deal these days. Some good Japanese/korean stuff from the 80‘s will made a better job. So I send my wife to you when she ask why I need another one, thanks for that. My first video from you just found today & love your vibe! I just follow metal guitar dudes till now, so never had a touch with maroon 5 or their guitar player

Hey Mike - do you get a fee for playing the regular church gigs or are they all voluntary? BTW that JV60 sounds lovely 😎

If you're in a cover band, you need a half dozen guitars to get all those sounds. If you're doing your own thing, one guitar will do just fine (see Trey Anastasio).
