Brian May was an engineer and educated. Eddie Van Halen created his own guitar and it was very stripped down and simple one volume one pick up. Using the Variak to control voltage into an amp to get the brown sound. For me Brian was more of inventor. I just baught his guitar and I will get it in a few days and I am really excited. He has three single coil pick ups and you can use the top 3 switches to pick what pick ups you want to use and the three bottom to put them out of phase so you can get unlimited different sounds. Also, I can remember reading a guitar mag article back in the day and Eddie wanted to work with Brian and have Brian play guitar and he would play keyboards which I would really be curious what they would have created with the right singer. I think you need a bunch of old queen albums and a turn table and you would change your mind. There is no band today that could do what they do.

I think you chose pickups that sound remarkably similar to the originals. MIM Fenders have pretty much went away from the crappy ceramic (my opinion sorry) pickups and started using AlNiCo pickups so they’re much better out of the box, just usually ALNiCo 5’s that are hot. I don’t know the specs on these new weird (😂) pickups, but they sound like they are probably around the same output. I think you’d hear a much bigger difference if you went to a lower output vintage style set. But, even then, it’s the same deal. There’s not a whole lot of difference between pickups of the same “class” or whatever you want to call it. Vintage sets are all pretty similar with small differences, but sometimes those small differences are exactly what we’re looking for. Like some have more mids, or tighter low end. It’s all a journey, and that’s the fun and addicting part lol

john mayer is annoying because he's a wanker. sure, he's a great player. but everything he plays has that feel of "look how good i am". he covers people like hendrix in the most superficial way, with zero soul, and no respect for where jimi's heart was when he created the song. when he plays his own stuff, it's better

I loved this video. I would love to share my journey. I am Peruvian, took up guitar in the late 2000s. Here in Peru, Gibsons are for the rich, higher range Epiphones are for professionals or some people who can afford them. Most beginning musicians start off with very cheap knock-offs. I first layed my fingers on an Epiphone in my first gig ever, when a friend of a cousin of mine lent us his Epiphone les paul studio (worn brown). The touch was wonderful for my clumsy fingers, the sound was clearer than anything I'd played back then and the looks of it... Stunning. That's when I fell in love with les pauls. My 1st Epiphone was an Epi Les Paul 100 (bolt-on neck). Then, in a total leap of faith, I purchased a japanese Les Paul (not an Epi) from a guitar tech in another city which I modded the hell out of, changed inlays, pickups, etc. I was so lucky that when I received it, it was my dream guitar and is still, to this day, my number 1. Later on, as I aged and saved up, I have been able to afford higher end instruments. I have tried a few Gibsons, but while they are lovely, I could never really justify the expense. However I have gone on to buy an Epi les paul in every city I've lived lol. I moved to a bigger city, got a better job as a teacher and my first treat after I was made a full-time member of staff was a 2010's Korean made Epiphone les paul studio (red wine), broken and repaired headstock, comfortable, quite adequate guitar, love it to bits. Later, I moved to a northern city in Peru (by the sea, lovely people, delicious food), and bought an old Epi LP standard (blue/green burst finish) from a giging musician going through difficulties during the pandemic. Moved back to the capital (Lima) again, and found the guitar I had covetted since I was in my early 20s, a cherryburst Korean Epiphone Les Paul standard. Tried it, fell in love with it and is now by my side. It's been a fun journey and this video has brought memories of dreams, hard work, hardship, but all along happiness. That is what Epiphone means to me. Epiphone is life. Much love from Peru, mate.

Would love to see you get your hands on some of their higher end acoustics! They have been building incredible hand-built, amazing sounding acoustics for a long time now.

Vintage guitars are fine. Do what you want. I have ZERO interest in a 1959 Les Paul or a 1961 Strat. The modern versions of the same guitars have far better build quality and won't destroy your life savings.

Fender guitars are super easy to mod also but are you really playing a squire when your pickups cost twice what the guitar costs? No you are not. The only way any of these players are playing these is with replaced pickups.

Before I even watch and become enlightened i'm going to guess it's the same reason guitarists prefer old guitars, because their opinions are fueled by something between pseudo-science and magic when it comes to gear. All I have to ask is someone's opinion on tonewood to know how they pick gear.

I do have perfect pitch and I can tune without using tuner. Well, at least I use for tune both E strings because one of my old teacher said if your E strings are in tune, everything else will be in tune as well. I use this method tons of time but I still rely on tuner anyway

I had a Fractal FM3 and while the sound was incredible, I just couldn’t wrap my head around the interface. I picked up the ME-90 the end of last year and it’s become an essential piece of gear. Great video and I’m loving your channel!

Have a Nux Cereberus. Love it. Super simple, and no fiddling with bloody patch cables. But these days I prefer going straight through a mic'ed up amp.

I own a katana 100 and a me90 for giging and it’s absolutely amazing what I can get for less than $800 bucks.

The standards sound ok, usable, but it depends on the CS model pickups you put in. I put some CS 60's in a Tokai and they were a bit hot at over 6k unless you lowered them a bit

I think a lot of RHCP-fans (myself included) make the same 'mistake' you did by focussing on pedals. Learning to play LOUD is a lot harder. That's a Major 200 and a Jubilee or JMP and those amps are not quiet.

I think you don't have to dive much deeper and already hit it. For me it was also the "We will rock you/We are the Champions" guitar parts, and fifty years later I decided to learn them from scratch, just to do it before I die one sunny day. Also did this with the Oldfield solo from "Incantations pt.3" - although I wouldn't consider myself to be a Mike Oldfield type of guy. What I also love from Brian May is the solo from "Love of my life". Like a cello. My daughter is eleven and really likes "Sheer Heart Attack". You can be a beginner and play on a Fender and Gibson. When you get better on either you wouldnt need to worry about upgrading to that level guitar because you would already have it :)

The ME-90 lets me quickly dial in whatever tone I want . My interests are all over the map and I can easily tweak whatever tone I need to play whatever song I want . Gilmour, Hendix , Funk , Country etc. , the possibilities are endless and easy to dial in . In the past I had to rearange my pedalboard to accomidate whatever artist I was trying to copy . I think I will be selling some of my pedals now . I've had / have other modelers but twisting knobs is so much easier than touch screens or menu diving . The ME-90 is great with headphones when I want to play and my family is watching TV or sleeping . I also have the Boss IR-2 which works great as a headphone amp too. I love both units . I think I am done buying pedals honestly .

why does every video about fender mention american made does it really matter if i can get a good priced quality guitar for 500 buck im taking that idc where its made as long as the company is reputable

The Cunife pickups seemed to have a more "detailed" tone, compared to the stock pickups. Same amp, same settings ? Modification & personalization is at the very roots of Stratocaster culture & the design of the instrument itself. Making mods is an integral part of crafting & exploring your own individual unique sound. The ease of making mods to a Strat, allows you to forge a bond with the instrument. MOD ON ! BTW.. I think your honest, down to earth, "ordinary guy" style to your videos is FANTASTIC.
