      also putting some sort of rubber inside the space bar similar to the the ghost bar from nuphy would reduce the ping and make it sound better. Maybe putting spray foam in it? Worth a try.

  • @leftcoastfunk
    @leftcoastfunk Před 12 dny +1

    idk why you're calling pbt the "budget option" for keycaps, I think that's pretty misleading. There are budget PBT and budget ABS options, and there are high-end PBT and high-end ABS options too. PBTfans sets, for example, are every bit the quality of GMK if not better, at least in my personal experience with each, and lately I even prefer them over GMK
    If you want thocky switches, the best I've ever owned are L&F uhmwpe COWs from Infinity Key. They never got much hype for some weird reason, but they are ulllltra smooth and super deep without being very loud either, although they do come unlubed. The best stock option is probably the Keebhut x Aflion Tropical Water v2 which are long poles with a polished stem and an honestly pretty great factory lube job. They're the deepest sounding stock switch I've ever tried. They're usually out of stock (I bought them allllll lol), but I heard they may be in the process of working on a v3, hopefully with similar characteristics. Both of those switches make my Oil Kings sound basically clacky by comparison and I highly recommend both to anyone looking for an ultra smooth linear with a deep sound profile

    • @LewisToh
      @LewisToh  Před 12 dny +2

      thanks for the recommendations, i think its a SEA culture…
      in SEA, there isnt much high-end PBT, about 90% of PBT keycaps are below $50. With how accessible shopee/lazada/taobao is, SEA usually shop for parts on there which dosent really have PBTfans.
      I can agree on budget ABS, but realistically, i think most beginners or amateurs, wouldnt really buy the “shine through ABS” which i believe you consider budget ABS, which would leave majority of ABS sets to be GMK, which costs quite alot in singapore especially. With the currency rate exchange from USD, they run at $200-$400.
      Will definitely take note of your opinion!

    • @leftcoastfunk
      @leftcoastfunk Před 10 dny

      @@LewisToh Yeah that makes sense with those marketplaces being so much easier to shop on. A lot of people in US use Amazon/Shop/TikTok marketplaces for their stuff. At least Shop has more of the actual direct vendors for good quality stuff though
      re: budget ABS I actually wasn't talking the crappy shine-through sets (that nobody in their right mind would actually buy lol). At least through sellers on Amazon or other marketplaces most of the super cheap and very popular $30 "gmk clone" sets are actually ABS. Some are pbt but I'd say most are abs. The few pbt clone sets I've used are surprisingly decent quality compared to the clone abs sets
      Legit GMK sets are waaaay too expensive in US too, which is why I mentioned PBTfans - same/better quality compared to GMK but they're considerably less expensive. Don't know how easy to get them in Singapore but they're based in China and have a Shopee Singapore link
      Anyway, thanks for the vids!

  • @ryyy4312

    Wait ABS is better than PBT? Really? I thought it was the other way around... I've only had two keycap sets and I prefer my dye cub PBTs over the double-shot ABS. The ABS just picked up hand oils quickly and I like the sound and texture of the PBT's. But they are different profiles so that could change the sound. It's all subjective I suppose. I just have always thought double-shot PBT keycaps were supposed to be the best which is why it's hard to find them for under $100. Whereas double-shot ABS can be had for under $30. Maybe there's better ABS out there. I don't know. I just can't bring myself to spend more than $50 of hunks of plastic with letters dyed onto them. It's just such a huge price markup. I wonder what it costs to manufacture keycaps compared to when they sell a set for 150$. I'm sure some engineering and molding costs some money but after that it can't cost much to manufacture plastic keycaps.

    For a version 2, I'm curious if using the zoom65 v1 would work well, with SA or OSA keycaps. People are also sleeping on the vertex V1 switches, cuz they've been the deepest sounding keycaps I've ever used before and are very affordable.
