    We left Buffalo NY in 1996 and saw almost 200 inches of snow that last winter. The next winter I was at my new job in Raleigh NC and a few flakes of snow fell and everyone ran to the window. When they asked me why I wasn't excited, I told them I moved 750 miles south to never see that stuff again. Meanwhile, my husband was at work and heard one of his employees tell his wife on the phone, "My boss is from Buffalo. There's no way he's letting me go home for two inches of snow."

      I’ve lived in northwest florida and southern Georgia my whole life. When I was younger I always wanted to live in a state that had hella snow. But I’ve gotten a little smarter as I’ve gotten older lol. I know now that that shit can be terrible. It destroys all kinds of stuff, it can kill you, it’s really destructive. It gets super, ridiculously hot down here. But I’d rather be in the heat then be literally stuck in my house with our kids and the heater not working and 5 feet of snow blocking the doors and windows lol. People up north got my respect. Maybe we got yalls respect to die to the heat..but yea

    I went to college in upstate New York, where there is rarely a lack of snow. And people from all over the world attended this school. My freshman year I will never forget how some of the students from parts of the world that never see snow went running outside the first time it snowed. They were mesmerized by this white stuff falling from the sky. And to put a cherry on top of the whole scene, many of them never needed to put on a coat or a jacket in their native countries. So they found out quickly how necessary a nice warm coat was in the snow.

    Hey Ryan, We have been in a snow drought for the last couple of winters and in dire need of some heavy snowfall here in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
    Folks that rely on well water had their wells drying up last summer.
    Some people dont realize how important snowpack is to regenerate the water table.

    • @justinc4924
      @justinc4924 Před 10 měsíci +5

      @@maydayhomestead I will tell you. You & most of the general public don’t understand how forecasts work or know how to read weather apps (no offense) but you need some educating on that, so I will gladly explain! 1: They give percentages on chances of rain, so if it says partly cloudy with a 40 % chance of rain and if it does or doesn’t rain.. that doesn’t mean they were wrong. They are literally just giving you an idea. That doesn’t mean they were wrong, so let’s cut that way of thinking. Weather is impossible to predict. Only once & a blue moon will they be dead wrong, so saying that they’re always wrong is completely false. 2: Ryan is an internet weather man.. he isn’t telling you if it’s going to rain on a certain day in your town. If he did, you’d be saying the same thing about him, so quit comparing him to other meteorologists. He does different types of forecasts. That’s all I have to say, so I hope you learned something!

    Hey Ryan I live near Chicago and I just wanted to say that with picture evidence over the past 10 years we have gotten way more snow during El Niño winters than La Niña. • @JKSSubstandard
      @JKSSubstandard Před 10 měsíci +2

      Lake effect is generated when cold air masses move over warmer lake water. So if the average temp is warmer, that means the lakes are warmer and less covered in ice. That means when the temps do get below freezing theres FAR more open water and a far greater evap off the lake. Meaning that youll get less snow from the clipper storms thatll be more rain, but every time the temp drops below freezing the snow belts get nailed. And again, because the water is warmer, the lakes are exposed far later into the season meaning more chances to get that lake snow.

In Northern VA, I saw many inches of snow year after year. However in Central VA, we hardly get snow. For example, the Richmond area tends to get snow in January, and generally not even an inch. When I lived in the Shenandoah area, snow was guaranteed.year after year, and often measured in feet. I've noticed a real fluctuation in temperatures over the last 20 years. I live in *Eastern Maryland* and we have been lacking so much snowfall for the past several years and it's been ridiculously disappointing and it frustrates me to death as a snow lover. But do you really think the mid Atlantic region will most likely make up for all of that and finally see much above average snowfall compared to several years ago? Because we are pretty much overdue.

      I live in Richmond - same boat as you! With El Nino the probability is we will get one or two of the southern track storms curve north along the east coast and be very moisture laden and clash with cold air coming south along the mid Atlantic region. There will likely be a rain/snow line with heavy snow north and heavy rain south. I think we get lit up pretty good once or twice, lets just hope it is cold enough for snow. We will see!

My husband and i watch every video. We have learned a lot from your channel and understand that el nino is gonna play a major role in winter weather this year. We live in Lebanon, Tennessee. It has gotten a lot colder a lot sooner this year and know that we are expecting more ❄️. So mych so that we have taken our polaris ranger and polaris RZR and rigged them to plow snow. I mean, we go have fun in the snow with them anyways, why not be able to help people, have fun and make some money! So our heating and air conditioning business is growing from hvac and we do duct cleaning (dust had been HORRIBLE this year) now snow plowing. Plus we can work on units and get the snow out of our way to get to work on units. Help elderly people out who cant shovel snow, plow our whole neighborhood and help businesses. Theres not a abundance of people who snow plow in Tennessee. I am going to get a meter and when we do get snow, post it with the meter and snow plow ❤

    We went through the ice storm in Texas a couple of years ago. Lesson learned. I did have antifreeze in a couple of My project cars and almost lost 2 new engines because they only had water in them. I was on the road working and was lucky I booked a Hotel early because the rates went up from $57 to $200-$285 a night ( that should be illegal). Pipes in n homes were bursting everywhere. Get the tool to shut off your water and learn how to do it. Trim trees to avoid ice build up and branches breaking. Save the wood for cooking on the grill. Stock up on blankets, sleeping bags. I have a snow blower and made crazy money with it clearing businesses, home walkways. Have the tools to clear snow and ice off your vehicle. Keep your gas tank full as possible and have sleeping bags, heavy clothing in case you get stuck. Buy an extra case of Top Ramen Everytime you go shopping. It can come in handy if you are stuck at home for extended periods.

All weather forecasters are woefully low predicting their snowfall amounts. Lake Superior is a lake effect machine, causing 200" of snowfall most years. Same thing in Spring Lake. We easily get 20-50" more snow than Grand Rapids, which is only 30 miles inland, each year from lake-effect on Lake Michigan.

    As someone who used to live in Denver, but moved to the ArkLaTex where we get hardly any snow but rain by the gallon, I wish y’all would make a rain o’ meter for us to track rainfall during these storms. I know I can get a rain gauge from Tractor Supply, but I’d rather support y’all.

      @@DENVEROUTDOORMAN, after 21 years of shoveling, knocking snow off tree limbs, scraping windshields, driving in slippery snow with people who think 4-wheel-drive means 4-wheel-stop, and having to thaw out numb fingers and toes, I will loudly proclaim that I will GLADLY deal with these monstrous Texas thunderstorms and triple digit temperatures than even a single snowflake. I'm convinced snow is a thing of the past here in the Philadelphia region. It's been since 2016 that we had a notable snowstorm, and each season has had less and less snow, and last winter had 0 inches of snow. Our climate has changed, and Philly is subtropical now.

    OK I’ve been in Georgia for 45 years and things are a changing! I don’t recall ever having such a hot summer, an elongated fall, straight into winter temperatures that would normally take place in January at the end of October. Put it this way. I’m just really grateful I’ve bought an extra heavy down coat. Looks like I’m gonna need it.

    Last year, Duluth, MN got 11 and a half feet of snow. My neighborhood looked like the trenches of Stalingrad. We moved in April. Snowed twice the week we closed ending on April 28th.

    So long as Denver doesn't get several multiple feet storms roll through weekly for several weeks in a row that's all I'm going to care about. The stray 3 to 5 feet now and then doesn't mess things up too much since we usually get so much sun it melts off without too much difficulty but if we get several of those back to back before any significant melt can happen we get nasty ice ruts building up on the side roads.
