    Started my first HGV job Monday driving Class1 been out with a old boy teaching me and sharing his knowledge with me on the Monday my reversing was shocking but got better with each day and then come Friday I was reversing the truck like I’d be doing it for years. But I’m not gonna get big headed or complacent am being sent out on my own as of Tuesday because the company believe I’m ready after the reverses they’ve heard I’ve done with fair ease. It all just starts coming 2nd nature as people have kept saying to me!!!

    Keep a good distance from Toyota Prius drivers - especially the ones with the little yellow badge on the back. One of their main hunting grounds is the M6 going up Corley bank, keeping to 51.97 mph in lane three or four, causing frustration, then swerving across three of the four lanes to get in the services! Wah!

      And 17 plate Toyota avensis drivers on M6 southbound entry slip at Junction 9 who like to swerve in front of you and then brake check you.

    Some people might laugh at this comment but my experience of trying to get my licence for any vehicle in a week has always been a disaster and I’ve always failed, I’m one of those guys that needs to pick up a skill one piece at a time otherwise I find it too strsssful as it’s basically information overload.
    But most driver training schools insist on you doing a 5 day course and your not given an option on doing it any other way, I wish you could break the practical training to weeks rather than days as it’s a lot to take in in 4/5 days, from being a novice to a test passer!
    But I give credit to those who can pass it in that timeframe.

    Ye I think I might start with van driving or class 2 and then move up to class 1, that'll be ease me in. It'll get me more experience in all sorts of deliveries as well. 👍

    Pass the test and then...always straddle lanes at roundabouts unless you absolutely know the junction otherwise, you'll be up the junction after 'squeezing' a car or squashing a cyclist. Use the size to keep others behind and not want to risk any RTC!
    BTW, resist CE work at less than £16.00/hr.

    I think I said it before that when I first started on Class 1 I would set off early and stop at Barton Park on the A1 and spend half hour of my own time just practising reverses. The boss didn't mind and it helps you. Never worry about reversing, it comes with time. This week I had my 1st go with an urban rear steer for 3 days, yet another new ball game. Take it slow, take the shunts, and ask for someone to watch you back if you want it.

    • @Dudleymiddleton
      @Dudleymiddleton Před 2 měsíci +1

    Great info! Thanks a lot! I was wondering, if a bloke doesn't have dependents, wife etc can he live in the truck full time? Is that realistic? Would the companies be OK with it?
    Is it a luck thing, meaning finding the right company to accept it or is that completely out of the question?
    Asking for a friend 😅

    • @truckitprayle
      @truckitprayle  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I think some people do, but i think its technically illegal as of late they bought out a new rule saying you must have 48 hours out of the truck or something like that.

    There should definitely be extra provision within your training dedicated to reversing. The reverse and uncoupling test doesn't go far enough, especially the reverse side of things it has no bearing in the real world, in my case the test was carried out by my training provider, i had no practice what so ever until it was test day, by which i had a couple of goes with my intructor then straight onto the test, luckily i passed it first time, but it was more luck than judgement.

    • @truckitprayle
      @truckitprayle  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yeah i agree they don't give you enough training at all in this country.
      What amount of time would be enough in your opion?

    • @thewidowmaker4037
      @thewidowmaker4037 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@truckitprayle I'd say an hour or so each day tacked on at the end of your daily training, its not just about passing that section of the test but preparing you for life in the industry. It would be time well spent even more so than the actual driving itself, how many driving assessments fail on the reversing??? Like you said in the video driving forward is the easy part.
      Are you going to be documenting your journey in getting a HGV job in Australia, it could be a real eye opener.

    I recently started following your videos. I am ready to choose a course, but I haven't decided yet because I can't make up my mind whether to choose Class 2 or Class 1 training. I think I will choose Class 1 training and will try to find a job in Class 2 first to gain some experience. My only concern is that it might be a bit confusing if I train only on a Class 1 vehicle and then suddenly have to drive a Class 2 in my first job. Will this be difficult? Thank you for your time and for your helpful videos.

    • @truckitprayle
      @truckitprayle  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I don't think it will class 2 is very similar to driving a car/van so wont be too hard and gives you a good chance of learning how to operate a bigger vehicle.
