Who was D. B. Cooper and why was he never caught? The person known as D. B. Cooper may have pulled-off one of the greatest feats of criminality known to man, Some criminals go down in history as almost heroic, they become to the stuff of folklore. We have noble highwaymen; we have people that robbed the rich only to share their spoils with the poor. We have bank robbers such as John Dillinger, who became a legend after stealing from the big bad banks and being very kind with the swag. Then we have outlaws such as Jesse James, whose legend appears to be somewhat overblown in both books and movies. But in today’s show we will focus on a man whose actions were certainly not fiction. But I though he was put in prison, and spend the rest of his life in Fox River. When Scofield arrived DB shared his information and eventually wanted to escape with the PI gang. But in the end, as we all know, he had a fight with Bellick and later died to his injuries. During his final moments he shared the location of the stolen money, and eventually the money treasure was found... Oh wait, you're saying Prison Break isn't real?? Well god damn then... :P

I believe Dan Cooper was William J Smith. He fits the description perfectly. He was 43 in 1971.He knew someone named Daniel Cooper from his highschool. Smith worked as a yardmaster for a railroad company but the company filed for bankruptcy. William had a grudge from this.And when a flight attendant asked Cooper about his motives he said "It's not because I have a grudge toward your airline, it's just because I have a grudge"
William could have used his knowledge of railroad networks to escape the area after landing, which makes me think Dan Cooper survived the jump.
May he never be caught. And the case never solved.

Some of the money *WAS* found by an 8 year old child on a camping trip, partially buried on the banks of the Columbia river in 1980.
Personally, I think he did get away with it. Look who this guy was, or at least who law enforcement perceived him to be. Military vet with aviation and parachuting experience. Someone trained to bail out of a plane, and survive incognito in the wilderness. My opinion? I think he pulled it off. Airport security wasn't like it is today. In 1971, passengers on airplanes didn't even have their luggage checked, let alone even show ID to get a plane ticket. Dan Cooper was just a made up name to get his plane ticket, which he paid $20 for.
Personally I think he was never caught due to all the planning that went into it. You think this random dude just showed up at the airport and did this. Balderdash. This was completely planned out. Every clue underscores how he had planned meticulously in advance. He told the pilots how to fly that plane, at what altitude, at what degree to have the flaps down, and he even knew the aft stairs could be lowered in flight, which even the stewardess didn’t know. He used a sectional chart and time to determine location, and where his drop zone was. He bailed out of the plane, and probably landed in a clear area where he either had accomplices waiting for his arrival at best, or close to where he had a vehicle waiting for him at worst. There is some speculation that he even escaped by plane. According to eyewitness accounts, that were eventually reported to police, residents of La Center, Washington noticed a small aircraft coming and going from a field days in advance, responding to the signaling flashes of the headlights of a parked car. After the skyjacking it stopped. Were these events rehearsals? Perhaps. I think dude bailed out of plane with the cash, landed, got into another small plane and left. A Cessna Skylane could have easily taken him from La Center, Washington to Northern Mexico. From there he could have refueled, and gone anywhere in the Caribbean, Mexico, or Central America and lived a very nice life. Of course, with his age, he's probably dead now. I wouldn't consider that story impossible. Granted flying wasn't involved, but the Lufthansa Robbery happened just 7 years later. And it was pulled off by a bunch of mobster toughs.

Security at airports were far less advanced and people could get a number of things through. Especially in 1970. Furthermore, considering when 911 happened they all snuck through with knifes, you could only imagine what would’ve happened 30 years prior
when you consider the fact that you were allowed to smoke on planes back then, you can believe that airport security wouldn't have been very advanced. The bomb would have been on DB Cooper's possession, so it may never be found.
