    I have subscribed to your channel for sometime now, and you never let me down with an explanation, description or content. While working mostly at dealers, not all techs do programming. It is amazing to those new to this are probably shocked how many lines of code are jam packed into these PCM’s
    My service manger and I ran a wire the length of the shop, so in 1992, I was able to update or called “Flash” info that was not there before, but to program, we used the “VIN” and it would erase the PCM, then re-write it with files to change or improve whatever. Also, having the ability to see when the vehicle was sold, where and who bought it and any unfinished campaigns.
    What your video has shown is thousands of people’s time who wrote code. Working at GM, engineering had a new engine installed in a generic body, but with a carpeted bench where the front passengers seat goes, they placed two laptops, using analog to digital converters and epoxy thermistors in 80+ locations to record but start with a stock file they could use to start it. They added or changed perimeters to adjust for hot, cold, fast, slow, everything.
    Thank you for showing this part of the world of vehicle computer code that can make changes in HP & Torque without touching a screwdriver or ratchet. Good job.

    i was telling my subs about this vid this morning that they should watch when they got a chance today now that I'm watching it I answered my own question why i can't just do this in the vehicle instead of a bench setup just more convenient and don't have to worry about power drop and bricking my PCM

    • @TheDrivewayEngineer
      @TheDrivewayEngineer  Před 5 lety +1

      You can do it either way, I just don't have my vehicle wired up correctly yet, so the OBD port is dead.
      Make sure you're doing Write Calibration instead of Write Entire, less likely to brick that way.

    • @TheDrivewayEngineer
      @TheDrivewayEngineer  Před 5 lety +2

      You only have to do "Write Entire" when changing OS's, so like, the custom OS options, or say, writing a completely different file onto a PCM, like a Silverado tune onto a Corvette PCM or something.
      In this video I only made changes to the stock file, it's still the same OS, so "Write Changes" is the appropriate choice.
