International authorities are searching for two New Zealanders whose bank mistakenly deposited $6.1 million into their account. The couple took some of the money and ran. (May 21)
You know what. I accidentally wired a former client $2,000 (funny someone below me said the same thing). They both had similar names. The 'former client,' never answered my messages, or returned the money, and the bank said it was my fault and did absolutely nothing. High-five to those two New Zealanders. What comes around goes around.

Man, I had a check for $8,700 mailed to me by mistake once. It had my name on it and from a business that used the same bank I did. I took it to the bank thinking the whole time, "this can't be real". I signed the check and took it up to the teller thinking they're gonna be like, "this was a mistake". Nope. They cashed that check and asked me do I want to deposit any of it. I asked what the check was for. They couldn't tell me. I called the company and asked them what the check was for. I was told they owed me the money. Needless to say, no, it was supposed to go to someone else with the same name in another state. How it got sent to me, no one knows. Luckily I deposited it and didn't spend it because about 4 months later a detective showed up to my door. I was initial charged with felony theft. I explained every thing to the detective. Charges were eventually dropped after the investigation and the company got their money back. You have no idea how tempting it was to spend that money especially as time kept passing by.
Well done for being honest. However, I would have sued the bank or financial institution for defamation of character or something. It was their fault and now they caused me to look like a criminal by having investigators show up at my home.
