- REV Ocean is a research and expedition vessel (REV) and super yacht built by VARD shipyards in Tulcea, Romania. She was designed by Espen Øino with an interior by H2 Yacht Design, and was initially launched on 22 August 2019. She will be fitted out at other VARD shipyards and is scheduled to be delivered in 2021. At 183 metres (600 ft) in length and at 17,440 gross tons, she is the longest motor yacht in the world and the second largest yacht by volume of any type, after Fulk Al Salamah.
REV Ocean is the flagship of Norwegian billionaire businessman Kjell Inge Røkke's REV Ocean initiative. In an interview with the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten (published 1 May 2017) Røkke said he planned to give away most of his fortune. As a further step in this plan he joined the Giving Pledge in 2017, and founded the REV Ocean initiative.
Led by former WWF Norway CEO Nina Jensen, REV Ocean is working to improve understanding of the ocean and foster concrete solutions through three initiatives: the world's largest research and expedition vessel (REV), the World Ocean Headquarters and an open, global data platform.[9]
She is purpose built for scientific charter and environmental research missions.[10]
Her TIER III hybrid propulsion allows a full-electric mode at eleven knots when the yacht collects samples. Her total operating range is 21,000 nautical miles - Věda a technologie

If I am not mistaken Rev is classified as a research vessel not a yacht. So not the worlds largest yacht by classification.

Really, where is the love for this one person, this one guy who is putting a lot of their own mulla toward the building cost of this scientific endeavour for the betterment of humanity? That's more than I can say about anything I have done lately.
At least it's not another billionaires party boat. At least this boat is starting out with a well defined purpose; you've got to give the guy that.

yeah, it is one billionaires idea for a better humanity (and a pretty good one too). If you listen to the Voice Over you get a pretty good idea of what he is striving for. Rather than another billionaires party boat this person put some of their mulla toward a top of the range research vessel that scientific discoveries onboard will be shared with the global scientific community for the betterment of humanity; that's just the beginning - have a listen.
Basically, it's just an oceanic research vessel.

it's one persons dream ie a billionaire doing some good(?) with their money (which reminds me before I shine the light on what someone else is doin, I should shine a light on me and see how I fair under the same spotlight - I'm starting to sweat already as I am typing because I know the answer to: "What am I doing with my pay packet - how am I contributing financially to the betterment of humanity? F! What a joke. Not one cent. Not one Drachma, Nort, Zip-himmer, Zero, F*cking nothing) what an embarrassment to myself! OK, back to hammering someone else.) in the design phase (ouch that f*cking hurt) and all phases throughout its construction, professors, scientific bodies, universities from different countries etc were consulted to co-design, co-produce and co-production of coming up with not only this unique vessel with wet and dry labs, media rooms, along with other types of propulsion, being battery operated to meet 2025 propulsion regulations in protected areas and class rooms so students can also contribute to the learning environment but the way in which it will operate ie sharing scientific discoveries. Basically, all research done on the ship has to be shared with the global scientific community for the common good and betterment of humanity. So it's more than "Basically, it's just an oceanic research vessel." it has the scientific hardware sure but also the concepts for striving to be better humans.
I suppose its better than basically being just another billionaires party boat; at least it has a purpose to it, or start out that way at least.
